I love watching horses who have learned where all their feet are at all times. Thats more than I can say for myself and I only have two. What an inspiring team!
Wow. I have the utmost respect for her and her beautiful Latvian gelding. It is so sad that he is officially retired now as he was inspiration to many. I think this is one of my favorite freestyles of them. Snakeluver- It is so sad... you have no clue. Get on a horse and just barely walk and trot around. Tell us how you feel the next day.
Wow. This is amazing. I have the utmost respect for Ulla and her Lativan gelding. It is so sad he is now officially retired. They have been great inspiration to many riders. Snakeluver- It is so sad... you have no clue. Do this for us. Get on a horse for 10 minutes and walk/trot around the arena. Please tell us how you feel the next day. The coordination and core body stregth of a rider is unsurpassed. Good luck kid.
i loved rusty from the very first moment i saw him. he is so athletic, and ulla is probably one of the most gifted riders also. her aids are nearly invisible. thanks for posting this video!
3:50 up to 5:50?? It's called the Palladio ^_^ Awesome song. They use it in the Zales diamond commercial. I played it in marching band, great fun. Gorgeous horse, nice video. I
I really like the passage/piaffe music! Saw this kur on tv back then, and was totally in love with this kur, especially the music! Anybody knows how it is called?
Kayleigh74 Ulla uses hyperflexation too, so does Anky, Isabel and many, many others. And they are all great. Hyperflexation in the hands of a professional is fine.
This was an absolut flawless ride. Absolutely smooth transitions, no mistakes in the flying changes and most important she lets Rusty jump those changes forward which is something you don't see much anymore. Too many riders are holding their horses too tight in the changes. She should have won Atlanta with him, it was the organizations technical troubles that had her performance interrupt and she came back did the second half of her ride just as flawless as here. Much better than Isabel that day
Fluid- you have to remember riders have extremely different riding styles (esp depending on your country of origin). Though this riding style may not be what everyone would consider as the most desirable- it is on point. So, yes, it is RIDING, and proper at that.
canter - I have watched so many of Anky's performances, I have watched her on DVD's E.C.T and everytime i see her the curb is always different. Sometimes is horizontal to the ground, other times its loose. Its all depends on the horse and how he is going on that day.
Canter - It doesnt matter whether a horse is brought just behind the vertical or whether its its on his chest. Its all called hyperflexion and some use it extreme and some dont. It all depends on the horse and his needs
I agree. The passage was also poor in areas. It's hard to see if it is simply a weaker hind leg, or if it's from tension- the horse appears quite tense through the body throughout. The horse also seems to leave the hind legs out from behind himself in the trot and passage, and does not step under, take enough weight behind, and create true impulsion.
at 6:17 ish you can tell that back right(?) (if you were on the horse, the back right) seems to bee stiff and dragging. I wish he wasn't having trouble with that leg in the trot or the piaffe. But that pair is the best I have seen. Kudos and congatulations to that pair for the work they have done and how amazingly they preformed.
bravo. kick ass freestyle. one of my favorite dressage riders. and she got banned???? holy coww. btw... does anyone know any of the music in this? if you could let me know i would appreciate it. thanks
my favorite dressage pair. ulla is so talented and so discrete with her aids. wow. and by the way, does anyone know any of the music in this freestyle??
I don't really refer everything to that book, I have another more modern one, but I like that older one more when it comes to riding since it talkes of a more pure horsemanship, the new one helps me a lot about rules and a few details in riding that might not have come or I didn't understand in the other book, I would like other book though, the more I read the more I can pick of out of every book what would be the best.
Type ulla and rusty into google images, there you see the horse in hyperflexion. Yes - the horse is not BTV very far but its still a form of hyperflexion. Anky uses it extreme sometimes, but not on all horses, she often uses it just very slightly BTV just like Ulla does. You keep thinking of hyperflexion of 'head on chest' thing. Its not! its used in so many different shapes forms and sizes
Pretty nice! The croup did lower in the piaffe/passage, although sometimes it was a little stiff/disjointed. The poll was not the highest point of the neck, which it should be in dressage... But otherwise, very nice ride!
Your right about todays dressage not even being real dressage (and I compete in dressage) I also agree with your comment about the piaffes, they are hard but I have seen way better. I also think the extended trot looked a little stiff, but I'm not so sure, I'm not a good judge at this jet.
My mom always taught me that it was supposed to be the poll, but then again, she's more of an "old-school" dressage type person... but that is what I believe too, though it's never seen anymore You're welcome!
it's ok that you can't argue with about it and that you don't agree, I just said what I did out of my own opinion as a dressage rider and having the honor of having a dressage book that was written according to "the old days"
i agree with you tcody86 non of us could of done it any beter, we should be jelous, that this Rusty can keep her horse like that under control, that she can dance with that horse!!!
How can you say its not got the greatest dressage?! Yeah it might not have the best piaffe or passage ive ever seen, but it wouldnt be competing at gran prix level if it wasnt good enough, think the rider knows what the horse can handle and is capable of!
@jb698 I don't even remember writing that comment it was so long ago. But yes I have watched other dressage videos. I am an experienced dressage rider in fact. But to each his own opinion. I for one have never heard of a horse moving his tail that much to balance, but that doesn't mean you are wrong.
i love this video, the piaffe is not that great, his hocks look all stiff like, but its great, dressage is beautiful, and dang i wish i knew what the songs are called in this, i know one bit is from "o fortuna" but i want to know the other 2...or 3? gah!
i dont mean to be a nag, but we arent trying to critisize the video, so please lets all just be nice here. This was a great video and i hope this will be an inspiration to many
Just because his tail is moving a lot that doesn't really mean that's how he's balancing himself, horses at that level of dressage should be perfectly balanced.
looks like she's using rollkur as well. the horse's neck is pretty bend. i can't really see anyone using the classical style anymore. someone please tell me. thanku. i don't know much about dreaasge. hehehehe
you are wrong, horses can always see where they are going no matter what frame they are in. They have a better eye site than us. if they couldnt see where they are going they would run into things, and i havent seen that yet
Yep - I have no problem when a horse is being riden with the curb horizontal to the ground. Its not 'plain ignorance', its my opinion and i think there is nothing wrong with that if that is what the horse needs.
canter - its a great ride aye? i recon its awesome, and she also uses hyperflexion, LOOK OUT! you better start critisizing her too and stop liking her :P
hey snakelover, i'm a rider as of ten years and i just wanna say that there's nothing that annoys me more than someone who has never set butt on a horse in their life and says it's a poor excuse for a sport and is easy. it takes a great deal of talent. more than that, in fact, it takes skill and years of experience to accomplish something like this. not to mention years of thrills and spills and skill-building. any rider, young or old will tell you this.
When I compare THIS with the work of K.F.Hempfling for example, I cannot call it RIDING with a good conscience... Sorrey, not that I would ride on such level as them, but when I see it, I just can't call this prize-collector a RIDER.
I think she is a great rider and all of you guys should stop giving her bad critique. I would like to see you train your own horse to compete at this level and win. She has won alot of Rusty and yes she has flaws, Doesn't everyone?...So i don't understand why everyone is being such a know-it-all when i dought any of you have even competed in the olympics and won with the German team. Win more than she and Rusty have then i will respect you. Otherwise, Lay-off Ulla and Rusty
I have no problem with a horse that is being riden on a horizontal curb like salinero. I think its good, after all we are dealing with HUGE horses here. And no, most warmbloods do a great piaffe, you think too highly of TB's.
I am too young to know about the old dressage yes, but todays dressage is the best and if it was so bad they would be where they are. Youre too old to get into the real world. You know as the world gets older it changes, right? so maybe you need to get out of your ancient bumb and get into the modern :)
I love watching horses who have learned where all their feet are at all times. Thats more than I can say for myself and I only have two. What an inspiring team!
Amazing....i was brought to tears....i miss dressage so much
If my horse and I could ever be like Ulla and Rusty, my life would be complete. :)
incredible ride-exquisitely athletic on both accounts. Sidepasses and lead changes wonderful as well as different cadences.
i see just perfect harmony!! i grew up with ulla and rusty and i could watch them together all day long :)
The way these two performed.. It's like a work of art in itself! This video always gives me goosebumps.
Amazing dressage!! Beautifully choregraphed! Thanks so much for the video!
omg, this has to be one of the most amazing dressage tests i have ever seen!!she and Rusty 47 had an amazing connection and are an awsome pair!
I got to meet Ulla a few times. She is a terrific teacher, but expensive!! Great sense of humor and she is truly a lover of horses.
Wow. I have the utmost respect for her and her beautiful Latvian gelding. It is so sad that he is officially retired now as he was inspiration to many. I think this is one of my favorite freestyles of them.

one of the best freestyle compositions to date!
WOW just WOW i had dressage lesson 2day i got to do counter canter wish i knew up 2 fei standard wuld be amazing ultimate control over a horse !!! xxx
Fantastic performance! Still can't believe this horse comes from my country Latvia.
Rest in peace Rusty 47 or in his birth name - Rotors!
I do like the musical arrangement. The transitions seem very smooth as well.
Those changes of leg in canter look perfect!
amazing half-passes! this horse has the same making as my old lil QH too! haha i love it
3:50 up to 5:50??

She sits so well on that horse, their a pair to be remembered!!
This is my alltime favorite ride from Ulla and Rusty.
Snakeluver, you have no idea what the heck you're talking about
this was amazing music choice. i love it.
Loved the fact there was part of Karl Jenkins Palladio at the start.
Gotta love how as soon as the music started the horse went straight on the bit like" it's ok, I got this shit" lol
Very nice canter/lead work. Neat video.
beautiful! thanks for posting!
Canter - It doesnt matter whether a horse is brought just behind the vertical or whether its its on his chest. Its all called hyperflexion and some use it extreme and some dont. It all depends on the horse and his needs
Yes there is, i have seen with my own eyes so many horses go over BIG fences with there heads on the vertical. This is no longer up for discusion.
I agree. The passage was also poor in areas. It's hard to see if it is simply a weaker hind leg, or if it's from tension- the horse appears quite tense through the body throughout.

Dressage is not a sport....it's an ART =)
what a awesome horse! i love it!

I love this . The music that starts at 3.22 up to 3.45 . Ehat is it called ? (:
Pretty nice!

I just know one of the songs which she's using.
Ist "Palladio" from Karl Jenkins!
his piaffe and passage might leave something to be desired, but Rusty's tempi changes are phenomenal.
My mom always taught me that it was supposed to be the poll, but then again, she's more of an "old-school" dressage type person... but that is what I believe too, though it's never seen anymore
You're welcome!

i agree with you tcody86
non of us could of done it any beter, we should be jelous, that this Rusty can keep her horse like that under control, that she can dance with that horse!!!
What is that in the begginging at about 28 seconds to 30 seconds??? I want to know the name of it!
can someone tell me the name of the song for the enter/canter part?? thank youuu
My God, that's so beutiful!
How can you say its not got the greatest dressage?! Yeah it might not have the best piaffe or passage ive ever seen, but it wouldnt be competing at gran prix level if it wasnt good enough, think the rider knows what the horse can handle and is capable of!

what is the music at the start? Ive lost my disk of this and it doesnt credit the music!! arghhh!!
Just wondering, have you seen Toto or Salinero in training?
hmm but did you now Rusty is from Latwia! and i`m too from Latvia.. sorry my incorret english language..
does anyone know what music she used??
Kudos sxclilcowgirl, kudos.
What song is this. I need to know by 2.00 later. I need to know the name and who its by for my dressage finale.
what is that opera who is in 0.30 to 0.45 secund?
please tell me. i need this song. PLEEEAAAASE
Night Boy It's Carmena Burana- O Fortuna :)
He certainly does something funky with his back legs in the piaffe. Nice horse tho, mind don't even do piaffe :P
i love this video, the piaffe is not that great, his hocks look all stiff like, but its great, dressage is beautiful, and dang i wish i knew what the songs are called in this, i know one bit is from "o fortuna" but i want to know the other 2...or 3? gah!
why cant you guys just enjoy the good movements, the freestyle has already been judged. Just enjoy!
i dont mean to be a nag, but we arent trying to critisize
the video, so please lets all just be nice here.
This was a great video and i hope this will be an inspiration to many
where do you get the video from?
May i ask why you would refer every thing to that book? There are many other ways...
Just because his tail is moving a lot that doesn't really mean that's how he's balancing himself, horses at that level of dressage should be perfectly balanced.
looks like she's using rollkur as well. the horse's neck is pretty bend. i can't really see anyone using the classical style anymore. someone please tell me. thanku. i don't know much about dreaasge. hehehehe
Absolutly Gorgeous
AMAZING !!!!!!
She is a very good rider!

Do you know the name of this song?
rusty was a very good horse!!!
no, it was a mistake, It was a piaffe but she asked too much of the hind leg and it went higher than the other.
canter - its a great ride aye? i recon its awesome, and she also uses hyperflexion, LOOK OUT! you better start critisizing her too and stop liking her :P
it would be brilliant!
canter - I would point a horse at a jump with its head behind the vertical. Most of the time when i jump its either just above or on.
it sounds almost like Carmina Burana by Carl Orff
So sad that he has retired .
FANTASTIC ^_^
has he got a touch of stringhalt?
hey snakelover, i'm a rider as of ten years and i just wanna say that there's nothing that annoys me more than someone who has never set butt on a horse in their life and says it's a poor excuse for a sport and is easy. it takes a great deal of talent. more than that, in fact, it takes skill and years of experience to accomplish something like this. not to mention years of thrills and spills and skill-building. any rider, young or old will tell you this.
Jaccko, you would argue with a fence post.

Really smooth and a beauty. If only she could whipe her expression off her face.. Grumpy?
Her and Anky =

Indeed
here here Cookie1986!!!

ima1trkpny - I really don't care if Anky has the curb horizontal to the ground. I have seen her in plenty of rides with it loose. Give it up woman.
Sorry ment Sydney not Atlanta! :P
Tolles Pferd und ne super reiterin^^ schade das Rusty in den Ruhestand gegangen is :(
Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.
