For those of you who are having trouble with this exercise, I think some people are looking to produce images that sit on the inside of your eyelids like a movie screen.. I can do that but can't sustain it just yet.. only flickers that disappear when I try to look at it.. but visualization via imagination is different and easy... it's just like day dreaming.. there is no actual image on your eyeball but you can "see" quite clearly in your mind.. it's like accessing an old memory.. when you think of a moment in time as a child, maybe at a park or at school or whatever, any moment in time you remember clearly.. when you think of that moment and replay the moment, what you're experiencing or "seeing" is your image... so remember a time in which you ate an apple... do you remember how it looked? how it felt? how it tasted? where were you? what were you wearing? remember eating that apple as if you were eating it now... remember what it looked like as you picked it up, wherever you were... maybe you were at the breakfast table, or on a school bus, or in the grocery store stealing.. remember the moment you held that apple up, just before you took a bite.. remember how the smell rose up to your nose as you opened your mouth to bite it.. slow that moment down and freeze it... just remember it like a screenshot from a movie you took with your cell phone... zoom in on the apple in your memory... you already remember what it looks like.. just remember it's surface, the light bouncing off it's skin, the size and heft of it.. now focus on the apple so that the rest of the memory fades away... no worries about what you were wearing or who was nearby.. all you remember is that apple from that particular day... do you still remember it? do you REMEMBER what it looked like?? if you do, congratulations.. you just visualized yourself an apple! the key to visualization is to not worry about what you think you're SUPPOSED to be seeing with your eyes and just IMAGINE using real life experiences, places, objects and people... imagination incorporates any technique the brain can find to communicate with itself.. whether that way is by actual images being seen on the backs of your eyelids, or by a memory or a daydream, it doesn't really matter at all... just let your mind speak to you the way it feels most comfortable.. if all you do is close your eyes and see black but you can remember what an apple looks like, that's your visualization... don't compare your way to the ways of others cuz you'll never be satisfied with the outcome, always doubting it's authenticity.. just accept that your brain will show you what it needs to in the ways that it needs to.. nothing is "wrong" with you, you are perfection! 😍😘💕
A tip I read was to practice with your eyes open, looking outward without moving your eyes and just paying attention to the scene what's on the left of your periphery, the right, but to specifically not focus on anything in particular, just a blank stare. This is beneficial to those who can conjure images ,but those images disappear as instantly as they appeared, a possible explanation is that you literally moved your eyeballs to look at it and focus on it, and there is sufficient enough sensory detail on the inside of your eyelids to pull you out of your imagination and back to the external imagery of the inside of your eye lid. If you instead make sure to not move your eyes and focus on conjured imagery you may be able to sustain that imagery for longer duration.
Christopher Wanha Thank you SO MUCH! That's exactly how I did it when I was a very young child, I used to visualise and "daydream" a LOT and I remember it so so vividly! And nowadays I can't do it at all, after I turned like 13 it just "went away." My aunt told me it was because I was growing up and my third eye was closing.... 😕 (I might add, I'm on the autism spectrum and I was going through trauma and depression at that time and I was developing dissociative disorder, so that COULD be why!) Thank you SO much for reminding me of this simple but genius technique!!! Maybe I can get back into it with some practise! 😃👍 *Thanks for sharing your knowledge!*
I tried all of this. I'm laying beside my partner right now, and without looking at him, I don't know how he looks like. It's called aphantasia. Do you have any other ways that I can maybe practice? It would really help, and thank you 🤗
This worked well for me. red stem no room crisp on table tart. But no sight. Just thought. Its the verbs we need to learn and use. Working on details helps the most. Thanks!
So.... This isn't how to visualize if you can't visualize. This is "If you can't visualize things, I'm going to request you to visualize things." It seems like this is a little like asking someone with no left arm to just go ahead and raise your left hand in the air anyway.
No man, don't give up so easily..do accept the challenge. Any thing you get is much better than nothing. I can't visualize, that why I came to this page. To be encouraged somehow, ok?
Hmm, I didn't think so, not when he's distinguished between visualizing in the sense of literally seeing the apply in imagination, and seeing it in concepts. When I tried it, I wasn't seeing it in imagination, but easily enough conceived it, and this had the "feel" of seeing in imagination - had I seen it in imagination, I'd have given the same answers, and felt the same; close enough for me. Similarly, when trying to "see" in imagination various "images" for us in the art of memory, I find that there, too, it works just fine to *intend* to see it, even if in imagination I"m drawing a blank. Anyway, that's how it works and seems to me.
Most people can't visualize well because they never actually see objects in exact detail in the first place. So they get a fuzzy object when they look into their memory. Practice by looking at an actual object intently for a couple minutes, noting every detail, then close your eyes and try to recreate it in your mind's eye. Do this multiple times. Practice this every day, and your visualization/memory recall will dramatically improve.
Thank you for this video! I'd like to add... If everyone could just take a step outside themselves for a moment…When we were children, we had no inhibitions. We just did stuff. Experienced things. Wanted something, so we found a way to get it or do it… As adults we create in our heads all sorts of walls, blocks and things that would prevent us from getting what we want. Stop doing that! Stop being mean and nasty to yourself and go get what you want… Feel good no matter what! You will being is all that matters… You have that you get everything else. Why beat yourself up?! Literally ask yourself why am I beating myself up? There's enough people out there to do that for you knock it off! There's enough people out there trying to prevent you from getting what you want there's enough people out there beating you up there's enough people out there trying to tear you down and take you off your path… Don't allow that! Go get what you want; simply do it without harming anybody or anything in nature. This planet provides everything you came here for and more! Think about it, feel it in your gut try to imagine what it would feel like to have what you want and allow it to come. You need to allow yourself to receive! When you get up in the morning nothing negative has happened yet… Don't allow things to filter in and ruin your day your hour your moment. You're in charge, you're in control and you decide if you feel good or not… Not anybody else. They don't get to do that for you. You're not theirs, you are yours! Don't have the attitude I will never, I can't, I won't, or anything like that. Everything is right there for you. The fact that you say well I can't have that, is the initial problem with you not having… You all know what it would feel like to be $1 million in debt don't you you know what it feels like to be $1000 and that you know what feels like to owe somebody 10 bucks and you don't have it… well if you know what it feels like to be in debt or to want that car that you don't have or that house, flip those thoughts around… Try to see yourself in that house...why not? ..you feel miserable. Why don't you feel good instead?! Teach yourself to feel good all the time-screw it! Look misery in its eyes and smile and say I'm gonna turn you into everything that I want and everything that I came here for. Get up in the morning or the afternoon or the evening and do everything and anything you could possibly do to bring happiness into your life if it's playing cards with yourself play cards with yourself, if it's going for a bike ride or a walk or dropping to the floor and doing some sit ups if you think about it, Do it… Keeping in mind to not harm anything in nature. We don't need to be harmful creatures to get what we want… Train your brain don't allow your brain to train you! We used to be told that as human beings we have the most powerful computer in our heads, the human brain. We need to start using our brains again. We were given the ability to create. We are as human beings wondrous creators...look at what we've done with this planet… It was a ball of trees dirt rocks minerals- we didn't get here as humans and have buildings and roads and cars and schools, And we certainly didn't have theme parks with roller coasters and waterslides… We even created things like birthdays and such for kids to enjoy. We domesticated animals so we could have a friend when we can't find another human being to partner with. We've invented and develop things like the camera and the motion picture camera & the digital camera in your phone ..I didn't grow up with that. Everything we think about all day brings us what that is. You may as well think about everything you crave, desire, need! You came here because you have desires… And it certainly wasn't to be miserable. OK done have a great day thanks for reading… Just before I go, my dad used to tell me I was gonna wish my life away… So I stopped wishing and now I wish I hadn't. Don't stop dreaming don't stop wishing wanting and imagining! Love to all peace to all happiness to all
it was a pink lady apple with a stem with no leaves. It was room temperature, sitting on a blue plate on a purple table with the the light of a cloudy day shining through the window onto it. Thanks for walking us through this. I don't so much see nothing.. I just can't usually make up my mind which image to commit to. I tend to often feel bombarded with possibilities and start feeling anxious.
I used to be very good in visualisation, very vivid, but do to a few traumatic experiences in my youth, I, unconsciously shut it down, probably a defense mechanism, I can feel, but see nothing. I really want to regain that ability. I hope this will work..
I have aphantasia & none of my senses work while trying to imagine something. I just KNOW. I dont know if since i was born this way or had brain damage from overdosing on flouride pills when i was a young child if i can gain the ability to imagine with my senses internally. The only thing i noticed is u telling me to think about an apple made my mouth water.
i have aphantasia so, no visual apple for me, but anyway: the invisible apple is blue. it is shaped like a red delicious apple. it has a stem, and one leaf like the apple logo. it is ice cold to the touch (i mean duh, it's blue) and has a mealy texture (it's a red delicious, after all) I can even taste it. bland. it is floating in space. well, it could be on a table, but alas it is not; it's just floating in an infinite field of black.
I feel like I can have very vivid dreams and daydreams. But when told to visualize on command I cant do it. And I don’t know what visualizing something is supposed to look like, so I can’t tell if I’m doing it right..
It was a beautiful red apple with a stem and no leaves. As I reached out to pick it up, it was chilly to my touch, crispy on a bite and sweet as I tasted it. This is beautiful
aphantasia is new to me,I never really knew about it,I would be so confused when people say "close your eyes and imagine a rainbow" or something and all I see are white circles, but the thing is I can still see things when I dream, like I can actually see a rainbow if I'm dreaming,it's really confusing and weird but oh well
Green, so stem, no leaves, on the kitchen counter. Very helpful, no picture, but appreciate noticing the detail, my mouth even watered at the thought of the taste.
watery dew drops on a bright red apple, with a brown stem and single flag like green leaf at the top. It was floating in space. imma train my visuals to become more vivid thank you
I have no voluntary sensory recall, the new term for it is Aphantasia. It was affirming that I was able to create an apple in my mind and answer these questions. I do still wish I could experience visualization, but being able to recognize that my imagination is still real is very helpful.
Red stem with one leaf on the right ,it was outside air temp. It was not completely hard and crisp but it wasnt to mealy. It was on the ground near a tree.
So I just found out today that I may have aphantasia. When I did this exercise I could not see anything and could only think about these attributes. The question I have is when non-aphantasia people see the apple, are they learning information from the image? Do they determine whether the apple has a stem from the image and not from deciding it has one? I honestly didn't know if the apple had a stem or not and felt like I was just assigning attributes randomly to create the profile of this apple, but I never saw a manifestation of the apple.
Good lord. You are the first person I have found to actually address the HOW TO of visualization. Thanks so much (I only see black too, so this is such a great find).
could not see anything, I just picked traits at random out of the options given - red, no stem, no leaves, room temperature, crisp, floating with nothing around it. Sadly, I don't feel this exercise helped me.
It worked for me. I saw an apple floating in space dark red with a stem, no leaves crisp and tart and room temperature, I could smell it too. I think people get confused because they think visualization uses the eyes. It doesn’t. It uses the vision center in the back of the head. If they close their eyes it is dark and they are seeing the back of their eye lids. When we see, the light that enters our eyes and turns into electrical signals that travel down our optic nerve to the vision center of our brain, which is in total darkness, and yet we see. So if people try to visualize using the back of their head it’s sometimes easier and you can learn to do it with your eyes closed or open. It just takes practice
it was red , had a stem 1 leaf, room temp.crisp, on a wooden table, i paused the video and tried it again . everything was the same ,but this time it was more of a feeling instead of an image. cool technique thanks .
dark red almost like wine colours, crisp and juice it was floating in black space but when u mentioned table it was right o top of a table. but it was hard to keep an still "image" of the same apple in focus
Is it possible that visualisation skills improve very slowly ? Becouse i have been practising 3 months and my progres was a litte bit or nonthing so i stopped. I started again and i am afraid that i have something like biological barrier.
It was a crisp red apple with one green leaf coming out of the top next to the stem. It was cold to the touch. It was on the table of my old house in Pennsylvania.
Red apple with stem without leaves. Room temperature, sweet taste but not too much. Was neither too hard nor too soft. I was sitting on it and we were floating in the space
It was a red apple, sitting with other apples on display at the grocery store. It had no leaf, with a stem, I reckon it was crunchy soft at room temperature.
🎉Thank's. A good exercise to attemp and in my case memory of an Apple tree having just a few leftover apples on some branches is reviving when touring a place. What kind of taste will be of that maroon color type of apple was a curiosity and attempted plucking one and was a wild taste experience quite interesting in comparison to usual apples we having. Thanks. It was off season in winter quite cold as apple's have already been harvested and packaged for dispach in nearby big shedd godown. Thanks again.
Thank you, when you said don't visualize. I started to see the shape, it was red no leaves, a stem red, room temperature, on a table and it started to roll off and it fell off the table, it make the crunching sound, when it fell off. That felt so real.
Apple was shades of red and dark red, washed, wiped, HD, shiny and firm juicy apple. Had stump no leaves, sitting in a white background, brightly lit area/table.
It was blue, it had no stem, no leaves, it was cold just like taking it out of the refridgerator, it was crisp, it was hard, and it was in an empty darkness of nothing.
Apple: green, cut in half sitting on a vinyl record label. You can see a stem, the seeds and it's spinning on a turntable. I hear . . .Baby you can drive my car . . . Beatles! Then I imagined a real green apple, it had no stem, but there were little white spots leading down the little funnel where the stem used to be, and some brown too. I reach out my hand and feel the hardness, I take a bite and my salivary glands start working. It snaps, it is crisp and a little cold :) It's delicious! Thanks, that was great.
I see a shiny red apple with a stem and without a leaf on it. It feels warm, so I grab it to take a bite out of it and it was hard and juicy. In space, it was from the fruit bowl I found in the kitchen. I put the shiny red apple I bite out of back in the fruit bowl where I found it.
This is interesting considering aphantasia had not been named at this point in time , I do wonder how many people can visualize, I'm mostly black with a few flashes here and there
Green , Stem , no , room temp , Crisp interior slightly spongy surface, spinning like a planet in space , so close that I could not see the full apple in 1 frame
my apple was mehroon color, with stem and small 2-3leaves on the table,it seemed hard..room temp not cold, and but was not crisp when bite..i visualisd this....i think I'm not able to imagine with some specific person face.. I'm trying but can't.. I'm not able to imagine something with my own face
I can't visualize but I can imagine. I do believe it depends on how eyes located and on what part of the brain u concentrate. People who can't visually see something do still have dreams and can comprehend world around. Some just stare at the closed eye lids or forehead and concentrate on eyes instead of the empty space in the mind that's why they can't actually see the image. And when we get older it's harder to teach urself or believe urself. I didn't know people can actually see when they say I imagine and thought it's a figure of speech. Now I'm learning. It's not easy.

Apple was red. On a table in the kitchen. Had a stem. Sometimes had a leaf, but mostly didn't. Firm and room-temperature cool. Deliciously sweet and crisp, though the mushy sensation/image keeps slipping in. Hmm, visualizing the sensations other than/along with vision... Good technique... I'll try this.
My mind is, pitch black, pitch black, pitch black. There, that's my apple

Red stem with one leaf on the right ,it was outside air temp. It was not completely hard and crisp but it wasnt to mealy. It was on the ground near a tree.
Green, no stem, no leaves, floating, crisp, cool, juicy, and thanks for giving me an insight

So simple but so effective. Well done, Josh.
My apple was red with some green, had a stem and was sitting on a table. It was crisp and juicy.
When I visualized stuff i realize that I’m just imagining it and it goes away help
Red, stem, one leaf, room temp, crisp, and on a kitchen counter! This helped! Thank you!
It was a green apple, it was room temp, and it had a black stem, and it was floating in the vastness of darkness. It was a strange apple.
I used to be able to visualize so good when i was younger..but now i can't as good
So I saw black mostly but I found myself going back to a subtle visual memory of me eating a green apple from the fridge
Green apple, crisp& juicy, stem, no leaf, sitting on a table.....Thanks Josh....this was helpful
when i try to imagine things i see like them very fuzzy and through like a beige lense with cracks and i just loose focus immediately
My apple was red, with a stem, no leaves, cold, hard, crisp, sitting on a table. Thank you.
I only see it blurry (not blurry) but not clear and it is dull, this has helped me thanks!
Floating in space, red streaks, crisp, room temperature, stem, no leaves, sweet.
For anyone who can’t see the image and only see black, the name is Aphantasia.

Red apple. With a stem. Just one leave like a cartoon. It was room temperature. It was floating in blackness. Twisting around its axis.
Red apple wot a hit of brown on it, a stem with one leaf on it, crisp and juicy, floating in black space! Thank you, this was really helpful!!
Good lord. You are the first person I have found to actually address the HOW TO of visualization. Thanks so much (I only see black too, so this is such a great find).
Red, stem, cold, crisp, floating in space.
could not see anything, I just picked traits at random out of the options given - red, no stem, no leaves, room temperature, crisp, floating with nothing around it.
Sadly, I don't feel this exercise helped me.

green apple; stem with no leaf; room temp; crisp and juicy; sitting on kitchen counter
My brain is a darker shad of black
I started again and i am afraid that i have something like biological barrier.
red and green, stem, one leaf, on a bar stool, cant answer any other question than that because its spinning in a circle and can't stop it
Apple was a cold, crisp red delicous with no stem but bumps on thr bottom and it was stacked up other apples at the grocery storr.
It was a crisp red apple with one green leaf coming out of the top next to the stem. It was cold to the touch. It was on the table of my old house in Pennsylvania.
The Apple was in a space with stem without leaves red in colour. To taste it was juicy and crispy.
Red apple with stem without leaves. Room temperature, sweet taste but not too much. Was neither too hard nor too soft. I was sitting on it and we were floating in the space
in a basket with all other red apples. this has a stem with a leaf, fresh from the farm, very crispy and tasty
It was a red apple, sitting with other apples on display at the grocery store. It had no leaf, with a stem, I reckon it was crunchy soft at room temperature.
green apple, cold and crisp. no stem on a table and floating in space
Jesus is the truth
Apple was shades of red and dark red, washed, wiped, HD, shiny and firm juicy apple. Had stump no leaves, sitting in a white background, brightly lit area/table.
No stem. No leaves. Room tempreture. Not sweet, but crunchy.

Red, no leave, 1 stem, cold, crunchy and moist, on a checkered table cloth midday
red+yellow, yes stem, no leaves, cold, crisp, hard, floating in space
How does this apply to past life regression? Can you still have a successful past life regression if you can't see anything?
red with stem, one leaf, room temp, crisp on a table.
It was blue, it had no stem, no leaves, it was cold just like taking it out of the refridgerator, it was crisp, it was hard, and it was in an empty darkness of nothing.
Room temperature crisp green apple floating in space. Stem, no leaf.
I put the shiny red apple I bite out of back in the fruit bowl where I found it.
a yellow Apple with a stem and no leave. Which is room temperature and is also crisp when bit
Green, no stem, no leaf, floating on air, crispy and juicy
green, stem, one leaf ,cold, crisp just in mid air. I can only imagine it can't see it but I hope to keep going until I can see it
This is interesting considering aphantasia had not been named at this point in time , I do wonder how many people can visualize, I'm mostly black with a few flashes here and there

my apple was mehroon color, with stem and small 2-3leaves on the table,it seemed hard..room temp not cold, and but was not crisp when bite..i visualisd this....i think I'm not able to imagine with some specific person face..
In the past 15 years I've never seen Tellman in a suit...lol
Greate exercise..nice suit
red, no stem, no leaf, slightly cold, crisp, juicy, in a saucer on the table.
I'm not going to take this any further, because your not worth my time and I didn't have to imagine that

Red with a stem, no leaf, room temperature, crisp, hard and floating in space.
Red apple with a green tinge with a stem and 1 leaf in a completely white background
I'll try this.
had a stem, it was red, no leaves, kind of warm, it was hard, and it was sitting on a white table.
Velvet red, dried stem, no leaves, chill as metal, crispy, on table plank.
red stripy, stem, no leaves, wonderful strawberry smell, crisp - I am salivating - it rested on a green bench top.
