    The title and description misleading. This shows how to physically prepare yourself for the imagery/visualization process, not how to actually do it.

      How I do it is to either be in a completely dark room or wear black out blinders.
      I lay on my back with my arms and legs lightly parted completely comfortable.
      I then explore what I am seeing. I don't try to make sense of it Ijust try to become familiar with it as I can.
      After awhile, hours, days etc. I started to notice that I can manipulate Particles.
      I suspect that with experience I will automatically start to make my thoughts and dreams HD imagery.
      I also keep in mind that I must learn to distinguish between real life and mental imagery because the possibility of confusion exists.

      @@ScrappyDoodad I feel the SITTING VERTICAL idea can be very restrictive to OCD types. I don't believe it's best or not even necessary. In fact the more SLEEPY you are in the DELTA STATE like right after you go to sleep, or immediately after you awake, so I do all my visualization laying down!

      @@nobletruth2172 Preparing to start a process is like steps one through three of ten steps.
      I can't fantom anyone wanting to know how to prepare to do a process without actually knowing how to actually do it.

    The second step is to put on black out eye covers to block ambient light from passing through your eyelids to totally isolate your minds images from the distraction from eye input.

      Although using blackout eye covers is practiced in some mental imagery modalities, it is not recommended in this lineage of the practice of mental imagery, the reason being, that we want to avoid becoming dependent on external aids in order to be able to visualize from the intelligence of the heart.

    Jerry I’m not sure if you are aware of the fact that quite a few people have Aphantasia and do not have the ability to see images using their minds eye. Some also can not recall taste, touch or smell. I am part of a study on Aphantasia and it’s much more common than you might know. You can’t just practice, you don’t have the ability.

      Thank you for your comment. I understood that about 10% of the population are not great imagers; for those people, there are practices that are non imaginal (where we use our will) to heal ourselves. By the way, do you dream at all, and if so how? - Rachel Epstein

      Hi Jerry I do have very vivid and visual dreams. I dream multiple times every night. I just don’t have the ability to visualize during waking hours. I wondered for a long time why I was not able to visualize during meditation. Why I don’t see anything but black when my eyes are closed, even while in very deep meditation or relaxation but now I know that my minds eye does not work the way others does.

    • @drjerryepstein
      @drjerryepstein  3 роки тому +1

      @@ShyAnne0829 Hi ShyAnne - though i am not familiar with the meditation practice you engage with, generally meditation is a different state of consciousness than imagining. there is a blog on www.drjerryepstein.org regarding imaginate vs meditate that discusses the differences. One is an alfa state the other theta state (in waking dream for example a deep imaginal practice)....from my experience, also, meditation is a form of emptying, while imagining is a form of filling our senses when they are turned inward to explore different dimensions of reality. Lastly, if you dont imagine easily, dreaming is a great vehicle for self knowledge. our website has an entire section on dreaming. - best rachel epstein

    • @drjerryepstein
      @drjerryepstein  3 роки тому +3

      @@veikunanims7799 Hi - in the book, "healing visualizations: creating health through imagery" there are tips for encouraging visualizations, such as recalling a vacation scene you remember, looking at pictures and closing your eyes to see if you can recall it; using your other scenes, such as sounds and smells and sensations, to invoke the visual. ......And, while it is true there are a few people that cannot visualize, most have a capacity.
      first thing is to relax and not judge the image that appears as they are fleeting (as any image is); also recall that a mental image is composed of all of our senses not just visual. some people only hear and don't see, some see only colors, etc...
      finally, if you find that you are not an imager nor can harness your other senses, then turn to another modality such as engaging your will actively, or do chanting or possibly a simplified "life plan" which uses words and colors to effect changes in ourselves. For more info on these techniques see dr jerry's book Healing Into Immortality. ....
      Some people find non imaginal techniques such as to say "cancel, cancel" when they have disturbing thoughts to be helpful. And of course there is meditation to quiet the mind and access other realms. Lastly, one person just wrote me on youtube that she has visual dreams but not able to actively while awake see images....in that case you can use your dreams to access your intuition and higher wisdom. --- rachel epstein

      after you do several rounds (3 is suggested, but i wouldn't get caught up on counting breaths) you then take your attention off the breathing and do an imagery exercise. You will find many imagery exercises on my website, www.drjerryepstein.org/exercises . These imagery exercises, like the relaxed breathing in the beginning, are generally short, taking up to a minute. sometimes longer exercises may take more time. but you dont want to dwell in an imagery exercise so long that your mind wanders away from the experience. If you like this style of imagery, there are several easy to use books by dr gerald epstein you can find under "shop" at the top of the website. best - rachel epstein, director AIMI

      image streaming is an exercise that can help individuals increase their ability to visualize. as the other individual who responded mentioned, it combines faculties of the left and right parts of the brain in the process of visualization. it is something like the relationship between a weight trainer and his/her spotter. with time, it is said people that previously could not visualize without preparation may develop the ability with image streaming.

      You start with an exhalation through the mouth, and then inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth, inhale through the nose, and a final exhale through the mouth (relaxing your jaw and shoulders as you exhale)...then focus on the imagery and not on the breathing - Rachel Epstein

    • @drjerryepstein
      @drjerryepstein  3 роки тому +1

      yes you breathe out through the mouth (long exhalation) and then breathe in normally through the nose. by putting your attention first to the exhalation, you reverse how we normally think of breathing (ie to breathe in and then breathe out)...here we are reversing the process and starting with the relaxing exhalation first....long slow exhalations reduce stress hormones in the body and allow you to relax and turn your attention inward to do the imagery.

      Some people are stronger imagers than others, but most of us have an inborn capacity to imagine, and the more you do it, the more you develop your imaging muscle. Images appear quickly and disappear just as quickly. You only need a nanosecond of an image to evoke change.
      Here are some tips that might help you from my book Healing Visualizations: Creating Health Through Imagery.
      1) Look at pictures or photographs of natural settings for 20 to 30 seconds, then close your eyes and see the same pictures appear in your mind.
      2) With your eyes open, remember a pleasant scene from your past, then close your eyes and remember these same images.
      3) Use your non-visual senses. For example, close your eyes and hear fish frying in a skillet or the applause of an audience or glasses clinking; or close your eyes and physically smell perfumes or essences of varying strengths. What do these smells evoke?
