  • Tama has a lot of weird stuff in her Nintendo 64 collection in 2020. Of course there's plenty of Pokémon like Pokemon Stadium, but why does she have a Blockbuster Video copy of South Park Rally? What's with that bizarre Nintendo 64 Gameshark that barely works? Find out all that and more in this video!

2:39 by modding your N64 to accept Japanese carts also allows you to use PAL carts as they're the same shape. It seems that America got the design of the casing altered! Not only that, but from the more I watch of these videos, I'm seeing more differences that the US have for games in general compared to Japan & Europe

    • @AndresLionheart
      @AndresLionheart 4 роки тому +2

Are you sure that's the case? Japanese games are known as NTSC-J and american games as NTSC-U. They are both NTSC. In the case of european games those are PAL. I once tried Pal version of DK64 and Mario Party and neither worked on my american N64.

    • @marksmithwas12
      @marksmithwas12 4 роки тому

@@AndresLionheart I'm not 100% sure, but I'd imagine either there'd be no video output or the video output would be cropped from 625 lines to 525 lines (depending on the TV used). There's also a possibility the colour may be greyscale and also a chance there won't be any audio? I'm tempted to send Tama my spare copy of Super Mario 64 to see what happens, lol

The N64s such a time capsule in a lot of ways, every time you play puts you right back there in the late 90s/early 2000s no matter how much time passes - suddenly you feel like that kid again, be that playing some now incredibly dated multiplayer games with friends just like when you were growing up, or beating some hard challenge you stayed up all night trying to pull off, or you're trying to talk to your favorite pokemon and the lad just WON'T LISTEN PIKACHU PLEASE. I don't think there's really any other console that pulls that off so well.

I really liked it even as a kid, because I've always been fascinated by foreign languages and Stadium is really nice in that regard, since it's also partially voiced, but this is still a mystery that I haven't solved.

Yes, the video I've been waiting for!! I am not disappointed here! I enjoyed knowing the stories behind some of those games. Yoshi's Story is actually pretty close to my heart & it's a little saddening hearing that not a lot of people seem to have played it. Also, Hey You Pikachu is a special game to me, I loved seeing it get attention here. I still go back to that one from time to time for its novelty. This console was the subject of my first customisation, I painted one of my controllers a colour-shifting blue/purple, and recently, a red/blue transfer pak. Opening up & cleaning out your transfer paks is probably a good idea if you've never done so already. Really helps reduce errors!
OH, and to save space storing your carts, maybe you can snag a game drawer on ebay. They exist, I have one from the 90s. It's black with the N64 logo, stores a decent amount of games.

    Here's my personal n64 story:
Never grew up with one. My first console was a ps2. However, a year ago I found one without any cords at a thrift shop for $20. Then, I found a bag at a different thrift store with, among many other things, Pokemon Stadium, a transfer pack, Waverace 64, and Castlevania 64. This bag was $15. Then, at THE SAME THRIFT STORE a few months later I found a legit gameboy with a legit copy of Pokemon Red in it for $7. So, I got to play Stadium with Red in the transfer pack. Through a mishmash of happenstance I had a lot of fun with it!

This is such a fun series, everybody and their mother talks about the best games and the underrated 'hidden' gems of various consoles, but nobody ever talks about trashy, bootleg garbage games you find in a 99¢ games bin in like, walmart that is fun despite how bad it obviously is. Its fun to play terrible games the same way it is to watch a 'so bad its good' trashy movie, and its such an untapped source of material to work with.

Oh man do people really not know 1080? The Pokemon stadium games were definitely my choices, but I guess I'm super lucky that my siblings had such great taste in games. Otherwise who knows if I'd know or ever have gotten to play such gems as 1080, Diddy Kong Racing, Wave Race, cruisin USA, Blast Corps (eh...), or the Zelda or Mario titles.
A lot of them ride that line of "bad-good" to actually genuinely good, but isn't that part of what made the N64 so charming and timeless?
PS I was also very lucky to get my hands on most of the family N64 and SNES collection after my siblings got all old and responsible, and had kids and stuff. I guess they ran out of room for stuff and didn't want their kids to ruin nice things, and evidently they weren't as attached as I was haha. Most of the SNES stuff was mine anyway so I guess it's fair enough

The GS doesn't require Mario 64, specifically. It just needs a game that doesn't need a Keycode. Plus, these other games you mentioned won't work unless you boot them up with a Mario 64-code game and enable the specific Keycode for that game. For example, Pokémon Snap requires the Diddy Kong Racing Keycode.
I used to own a 1.7, it didn't even have Keycode support. Tough times. Until eventually I got a 3.2, which works with pretty much every game except Majora's Mask. 3.3 was the final version released.

If you plan to expand your N64 Collection, put this title on the list:
    Jet Force Gemini
The Rareware title that got caught in the middle of the war of dominance for so many other games during it's 1999 release. It ultimately never caught on to a sequel since it came out relatively close to the 64's end of lifespan. It's Rare's most obscure game made in that era and it's awesome, not to mention that during development Rare was actually straining the N64's graphic limits to make it look so great.
Genre(s): Third Person Shooter, Platformer, Collect Everything to beat the Final Boss

Ha! I said it on the last collection vid, but our collection habits are MAD similar. Since our last video, I discovered a slew of romhacks that were packed into actual cartridges for N46 and SNES. Totally bizarre, downright awful games. Zero value. I spent about as much money on them as I would a can of Cola. I hate them. I HAD to own them. 😂 I'm saving them for a livestream sometime over on my Twitch, but a couple of them are especially had and would likely breach TOS. So once this whole pandemic has calmed down I've got a couch co-op weekend in the works with my lifelong best friend and I'm going to force him to play them while I watch! Sometimes, the absolute worst and most bizarre games are the ones that make the most memories.

You need the Rad 2X cable to bring that thing back to life. Then get Resident Evil 2. The Rad 2X works on some NES, SNES,N64 and Gamecube systems. You should look into it. It's a bit expensive but worth it in my eyes. If you do get RE2 get the memory expansion pack.

I gotta say... the Nerd Squared shirt I originally commented on in your last video, I was CONVINCED it was in reference to the old UA-camr of the same name. 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

Yoshi’s Story, Fighter’s Destiny, Snowboard Kids, Mischief Makers, Smash 64, DK 64 and Majora’s Mask are my favs on the N64. 7:58 that sounds like Jeff Manning (Announcer of Smash 64)

I am a little bit disappointed that you didn't give an opinion on Ocarina of Time (my all time favorite game) but it's great. I would also recommend picking up its sequel, Majora's Mask, which is a very ambitious game, though it is polarizing. Also kind of messed up in the story department when it comes to content, you will be surprised how much dark toned stuff got past the ESRB's radar with an E-rating.

Nobody knows what you're talking about because 1080 Snowboarding is clearly inferior to its competitor, the somehow even less known Twisted Edge Extreme Snowboarding.

Yay it's a collection of my favorite console of all time! I never thought you would be into modding games besides Pokemon, so it's really cool to see the Mario 64 Pokemon themed mod.
Also, you have a the mere fact that you have a SOUTH PARK game is hilarious.

7:22 - Wh... Why is the yoshi on her copy of Yoshi's Story pink? I have only ever seen that game with a green yoshi. Were there multiple labels floating around and mine just happened to be the classic green, or perhaps was the colour determined by a regional distribution thing (e.g. Australian market = green)?

There’s actually a company that manufactures universal cases for cartridges. They can fit NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis games.

Oh cool I ran through pokemon stadium 1 back in 2013 with my pokemon from blue. Wish I knew doduo gameboy was a thing before grinding my pokemon to level 100 on my gamecube gba reader.

Oh man, the N64 was my first console too and seeing pokemon stadium 1 and 2 again gave me this HUGE wave of nostalgia. I still own my old copies of those and the older pokemon games I played on my gameboy color too but I get the feeling that by now if I wanted to hook up my old copy of yellow or crystal again my battery saves would be gone.

Pokemon fakes are so out of control these days there are more fakes than actual cartridges FFS. if you search on ebay you have to comb through 10 fakes for every real one, let alone one with a working battery.
Honestly I recommend avoiding Gen 1/2 physical games for this reason entirely. and the whole battery death thing.

You're around my age so N64 is definitely a nostalgic trip. Mario Party, smash daddy kong racing and banjo were my childhood. Conker desensitized me from a lot of dark content.

So I still have my Nintendo 64 but like 10 years ago a huge rain flooded my basement where I left it. I tried running it but after some secs the screen goes blank...I think maybe it just needs a clean up (it was dirty water at that time).
    Any ideas for help??

Wish the European version of the N64 was just as easy to break off the region lock. Unfortunately, simply breaking of the pins doesn't cut it.

my brother took our n64, which i'm pretty sure i chipped in for, so it was basically mine, and then he went to jail and it disappeared. makes me upset, enough that i want to find one and start collecting games for it.
also, 1080 snowboarding is fun, but not as fun as tony hawk pro skating.

Minor thing, but they make End labels for all the N64 games on etsy, makes storing/using them a little less of a pain. They also make HDMI cables which is way less expensive than modding that stuff in.

I loved Kirby 64 the crystal shards when I was younger. I remember playing alongside my Aunty & Uncle, their console and game, and was so happy when we finished it 😁. When I started making my own money I immediately bought it and a N64 alongside Pokemon Snap, which I hadn't played to that date, and the Pokémon Stadiums.

Over the course of my life, I would continually have collections, and then lose them. I've never been good at keeping track of physical things.
    So my e-library is nice.
