This Massive Diamond is a Freak... and It's About to Go on Sale

- May 18 -- Even in the world of rare stones, Foxfire is a freak. It was buried in a place where big gem-quality diamonds aren’t supposed to exist. A Rio Tinto Group ore processor was configured to discard it. And what saved the diamond’s 187.7 carats from being pulverized was a fluke: Its unusual, elongated shape allowed it to slip sideways through a filtering screen.

THAT WAS WHAT I WAS THINKING! What a waste
Diamonds did have some practical value due to their unrivalled natural hardness in using them in cutting edge machine blades. But that's in the past after the technology of creating artificial diamonds took place.
Correct!
Thats usually what the really small ones are used for
Why do you think we prefer diamond swords over wooden ones?
That huge diamond could be ground down into LOTS of abrasive dust, which could be used to make a LOT of diamond edged abrasive cutting wheels. That's the most logical and practical use for this diamond IMO.... LOL
Well you can't grow diamonds
That guy seems a little too proud of destroying a pristine untouched lake...
Dan Wally just for a stupid piece of rock.
What?

I’ve come to the comments to see if people are impressed by a massive scam we call diamonds, and everyone is bashing the diamond. I have never been more pleased by the human race🙌🏻
s Boltz how is it a scam exactly? Diamonds (especially ones this size) are incredibly rare. Of course they would be worth a ton.
JakeXD there are thousands if not tens of thousands of diamonds that the diamond companies hold onto, they slowly release them to raise the value or keep it where it is. They’re really smart with it.
JakeXD also, we think they are rare. You have no idea how many of those size diamonds that have been crushed into those buckets in the video🤔
s Boltz diamonds are rare, bud. And the diamond industry is getting better, if you want diamonds that aren’t mind in some African country, buy Canadian.
JakeXD what are you, a spokesman for Canada’s diamond industry?
No one :
Literally no one :
UA-cam recommended : this diamond is a freak
2 more pieces and he can make a pickaxe
Or

Im Smoky they probably die in lava before they find that second one

Look at that smile of that greedy diamond CEO talk about that worthless carbon.
you saw his name right
Mark Miranda they destroy land for a piece of worthless rock.
All I can picture is the smiles of all you smug commentators who have no idea how value works. You guys are truly the most worthless people humanity has to offer. No really. What a waste of resources it is to keep you alive.
@@marcusnilsson7179 jesus christ. Calm down.
It’s just that you don’t understand worthless. Price is put on by humans. It’s worth money cause humans give it worth. If it’s worthless no one would bother giving it another look. But obviously it isn’t worthless. It’s worth more than you.
I got $17 and some sticks of gum.
You can buy loose rough diamonds for around $10 on ebay, delivery notwithstanding

Large diamonds are rare, but I remember watching a Periodic Videos clip about diamonds and he was in one of the labs where they process and cut diamonds. He had a tray of diamonds worth a million dollars, but there was 27,000 carats in the box, so each carat was only worth around $37. And they sell em for $5,000+???

Muito bom
Gemstones like Foxfire are very unique which ultimately drives the price to the new records and investors are willing to pay any price for the 'unique' label. Does that justify mining companies draining water from the lake and thus, alternating the surrounding landscape forever? I'll let you be the judge.
worth it!
@@CodyvBrown yes worth at the expense of a terribly disturbed habitat and a few giant potholes. I mean, yeah if the company is willing to fix it up instead of just leaving it there. Diamonds aren't even that rare or should cost that much to begin with. The company that convinced everyone that diamonds were precious and rarely found, took control of large sources of diamonds and only gave out a small amount just enough for demand driving up prices.
Or they could grow one twice the size in a lab for less than 1/10th the cost.
So unique, they intended to crush it up into smaller pieces
Nice one
100% worthless stone. joke of the Century
Last century maybe. The joke of this century is people trying to console themselves by belittling things that they know they can't afford. It's funny because they think people can't smell their jealousy.
@@Duras80 It's not lies dufus. It's supply and demand. Even if diamonds are not rare, no one is stopping you from digging one up to be your buttplug or whatever. But most people don't wanna do that. They prefer to get it at a jewelry store, well cut, polished, set in gold, and most importantly, nowhere near your unwashed ass. With your logic, why do you even bother to pay so much for your computer? The chips are mainly silicon. Just stuff a box with sand and maybe you'll get a super-computer, genius.
Stefan , you are 100% useless, I would choose the diamond over your dumass
Diamonds of that size are incredibly rare.
jort93z The fucker destroyed a whole lake for that stupid rock.
It was named the Fox Fire diamond. The first found in the western hemisphere of that size. But diamonds are very common they are just way too deep close to the center of the earth if you blow a torch at a diamond it eventually burns as it is carbon.
A diamond doesn't burn, at least not usually. If you put it in pure oxygen it does, but it won't burn in the normal atmosphere. Just because water contains hydrogen and oxygen it doesn't explode when you ignite it, does it?
A 600 plus carat champayne colored diamond was found on the Bolin brothers claim just out of Baker City, Ore. A certain well known Dutch diamond company has the diamond and refuses to give it back and have threatened the brothers with death if they try to get it.
I get that it’s a geological wonder and all. But isn’t there anything more productive a diamond of this size can be made into?
Looks like a normal chunk of quartz lol
Wow cool! A chunk of one of the most abundant elements on the planet, which has had its price inflated to make money out of it.
Do you think you're smart?

@@Auhtist Except for the 2 crushers that are configured to crush anything over an inch in size that they just mentioned in this video...
Diamonds may be the hardest material on the Mohs scale, but hardness just refers to the difficulty in scratching something. Crushing a diamond, on the other hand, can be accomplished relatively easily.
They will crush anything over a inch
As mentioned.
Early on this showed us a man watches for them to save. Human eyes suck they've crushed big ones a bunch.

And is crushed finely all the time.

To all the people here hating on diamonds, diamonds have been a symbol, a status which many people call a rock with a huge amount of value, when cheap cotton and dyes can make a t-shirt that is valued at hundreds of dollars just for the sake of branding, why not a rock which is rare(not as rare as de beers and such companies say it) and shiny be given value, a marriage of nature, history and art to make highly refractive attractive jewels. At the end, it's about supply and demand; humans have been in love with this rock for quite sometime now and will surely still will be. Whatever it may be, it is us humans who value things which we find appropriate.
Can't wait for synthetic diamonds to go mainstream
Artificial sweeteners have gone mainstream for ages, but sugar is still ballin. Brass can be made to look golden, but gold is still way more expensive. Synthetic diamonds will probably be used in research, manufacturing, lasers, etc. But I don't think it will affect the demand for natural diamonds.
@@burtonl7239 there's a big difference between those and this. Sugar and brass are chemically different still. This is chemically identical
I'll trade you a Happy Meal for it...if I get to keep the burger portion.

Great question. Here's what I, as a working poet, have to say about it: "Love is a moment of time we cling to, because, for that moment, everything else is meaningless. Life is utterly simplified, reduced to its least common denominator--the impetus to share oneself with an/the object of desire."
