It upset me too when I was a little girl. But I look at it this way now. Sue did herself in. With her figure she really didn't need that darn bustle anyway.
In the original book it was more tragic. Sue bounced for 3 days and 4 nights and kept hitting her head on the bottom of the moon and was crying buckets. Even Pecos couldnt stop her bouncing so he ended up shooting her so she wouldnt starve to death from bouncing.
@@MauriceBear I believe the only difference was a couple of scenes depicting Pecos Bill smoking. Although, apparently, those scenes are still shown in the version featured on Disney+.
Yeah, the horse was at fault. Though I’m interested in the fact that Bill didn’t try again, why Sue didn’t take off that bustle; and why didn’t anyone bother to catch her.
Que bonitos recuerdos. Pecos Bill. Gracias a Dios y al internet es posible ver cosas de nuestra infancia. Tengo 50 años y ver estás caricaturas es una bendición
Looks like Widowmaker is now Widower-Maker since he killed Sue. And yes, the horse got his "funny name" because the many men that he killed (before Pecos Bill tamed him) were married men.
I'd like to give you a heads up. He didn't kill Sue. She just went all the way to the moon. That's where she stayed is what the narrator said. But there was no way she'd be able to survive there. Her only way back to earth I guess would be to catch a shooting star. That might help her out of her ordeal.
I really think Widowmaker should have gotten himself a girlfriend rather than feeling angry at Sue for "stealing" his best friend. I highly doubt he felt happy getting Bill back at the end because Bill was obviously too depressed about Sue being lost.
All Pecos Bill would have to do is buy or borrow a bustle then he could jump off a cliff & bounce to the moon himself where Sue went. I wish he'd have thought of that. If Widowmaker had found a girl too, then I'm sure he'd have been more relaxed.
With all them Cowboys just standing around, they could have just gave her the old football tackle like in the original 'Absent Minded Professor'when the old man was stuck bouncing in the Flubber Shoes.
I compiled this video for my son and his friends. They were learning about legends and Pecos Bill was one of them. I wanted to show them Paul Bunyun and John Henry but they didn't make the cut.
Yikes, poor Sue...that's even worse! I think it's such a shame we don't see shows like this on Disney anymore. It's all about using the teenybopper actors to make money. :(
It's interesting to note that teachers aren't allowed to show Pecos Bill in Elementary school classes. My 8-year old son is also learning about American Tall Tales, but he was allowed to watch the Disney cartoon about Paul Bunyan, while Pecos Bill was deemed objectionable because of the tobacco use, the 'redskins', and Sue's bustle. Even the story they read won't call it a bustle - it's known as a 'springy, coiled hoop'. I hate how the classics are watered down nowadays.
people are so oversensitive these days when it comes to political correctness but can't focus on things far worse in this world than cigarettes or Sue's bustle.
@LadyBlackdove True enough. The only good parts about Hannah Montana were the jokes the guys made. The rest of it was just Miley Cyrus bellyaching about how much she hated being Hannah Montana, and that didn't end until the series did! XD
People are MUCH more sensitive nowadays. I went to a live performance, and I'm pretty sure people were smoking things worst than cigars and cigarettes.
It may be because we're in the south and my son attends a southern school - some administrations can be terribly prissy about such things down here. :)
True, there are a couple of versions in which Sue survives, but I think that they were written to downplay the tragedy of the original story. Disney's ending, I suppose, was closer to the original, but nobody dies. Look at it this way: all of the other "Tall Tale" heroes of Disney (i.e. Johnny Appleseed, John Henry, and Paul Bunyan) have something in nature that serves as their "memento" ("apple blossom" clouds, thunder, the Northern Lights), and the coyote howling is Disney's way of keeping with that theme
Puts me in mind of my old girlfriend, Emily. Cross-eyed Emily, we could never see eye to eye. I think that she was seeing another guy on the side!!! The Rock
Really? I wonder, do oyu live up north in the U.S.? We're here down south, and I think school officials here are more conservative and picky about that sort of thing. But thanks for putting this up...at least I was able to show my kiddo the cartoon. :-)
@Jadicegirl And they let kids watch stuff like Hanna Montana... as if that's any better than said references to Native Americans, smoking, or women's posterior attachments..
Aw. I loved this as a kid. 🎼Sweet Sue...I love you🎶 I loved how the coyotes howled at the end. ☺️
I remember I was so sad when I watched this as a child
It upset me too when I was a little girl.
But I look at it this way now.
Sue did herself in. With her figure she really didn't need that darn bustle anyway.
I know I was mad at that horse
I don't think I ever cried as much as I did that day
In the original book it was more tragic.
Sue bounced for 3 days and 4 nights and kept hitting her head on the bottom of the moon and was crying buckets.
Even Pecos couldnt stop her bouncing so he ended up shooting her so she wouldnt starve to death from bouncing.
Jeez…
WTF?!?!
That horse was the one who warned Timon and Pumbaa about the hazardous effects of love on friendships.
0:30 aww poor horse , dont cry widowmaker, pecos bill still loves you
It's a shame that an original uncut, unmodified version is lost to history. Wonderful story..
Wait there’s a lost cut to this film?
@@MauriceBear I believe the only difference was a couple of scenes depicting Pecos Bill smoking. Although, apparently, those scenes are still shown in the version featured on Disney+.
Poor Sue.
She didnt need the dang bustle in the first place.
True.
That the end screen is from 1937. I wonder how it was put on these 7 1948 shorts?
Well tell that to Elizabeth Swan who wore a corset too tight. Pirates of the Caribbean.
But how come she didn’t take the thing off while it was bouncing? In fact why didn’t anyone try to catch her??
that horse always made me angry when I watched this as a kid.
And remember Bill saved it from buzzards earlier too, so ungrateful. I hope he never meets a female horse.
Yeah, the horse was at fault. Though I’m interested in the fact that Bill didn’t try again, why Sue didn’t take off that bustle; and why didn’t anyone bother to catch her.

Poor Widowmaker! The way she spurred him, who can blame him for stepping on the rope? Lol
If it hadn't of been for Widowmaker stepping on the rope I think Pecos Bill would've caught Sue. His horse was just jealous.
Well now his name isn't Widowmaker for nothing
@@funkykart He probably didn't want anyone riding him except Bill. I still think he needed to chill out & not lose his temper.
Best Disney cartoon ever.
Widowmaker: (hearing Pecos Bill’s mournful howls to the moon and feels remorseful for how he treated Slue-Foot Sue; sniffs) What have I done?
2:03 Yo, I gotta say that Sue made Widowmaker a REAL hothead!
Always remember to calm your horse before riding it ☝🏻

what great piece of work, frame by frame without computers this awesome!

Thanks for putting these videos up! It's been years since I've seen them :-)

That was sad :,(
2:35-2:38
Those hips are hypnotic, I swear
What was that music
If Sue didn't have bustle she may beaten Widow-Maker! But then you'd have to rename him.
Damn you, Widow Maker!
I guess the lesson here is never let a cute dame come between two good chums
rw:funny how pecos bill's horse widow maker goes by his name.
5:57 - The saddest cartoon ending theme I’ve EVER heard!
1:20 This is the part everybody searches for.
With all them Cowboys just standing around, they could have just gave her the old football tackle like in the original 'Absent Minded Professor'when the old man was stuck bouncing in the Flubber Shoes.
Good point, that was my thought too.
Say, that's one of the first human on the moon!
She beat Alice!!!
A horse, a horse, Bill's relationship for a horse.
I compiled this video for my son and his friends. They were learning about legends and Pecos Bill was one of them. I wanted to show them Paul Bunyun and John Henry but they didn't make the cut.
Well, he is called WIDOWmaker for a reason
I didn't even think about that. At least two classrooms watched the Pecos Bill video.
rw:from this short hence the name of his horse "Widow Maker",maybe this is where they got the name for that 1 character from OVERWATCH.
Wow...... That horse is one bad jackass.

Finally on an Authorized Uncut Digital Release.
@LadyBlackdove True enough. The only good parts about Hannah Montana were the jokes the guys made. The rest of it was just Miley Cyrus bellyaching about how much she hated being Hannah Montana, and that didn't end until the series did! XD
I think widow maker's jealous
Yes, that's what happened in the legend
Well...his name’s WidowMaker for a reason 😒
People are MUCH more sensitive nowadays. I went to a live performance, and I'm pretty sure people were smoking things worst than cigars and cigarettes.
3:50 Didn't Bill try again, or did he just gave up after Widowmaker stopped him?
Methinks that the failure hit him so hard, he was too dumbfounded to try again until it was too late
I'm glad bustle's don't existe anymore... and don;'t do that!
sad ending, very unusual for disney. but it fits the tale pretty well.
I wonder how this horse - Bills best friend - could life on with him, always knowing he destroyed Bills life c:
Apparently, with nary a worry or ounce of regret. That horse was a jackass in every aspect. :\
MrZee extra points for the rhyme.
The horse thought he had lost his friend Bill. He got Jealous after Bill & Sue met. & knew it was his chance to get rid of Sue.
Having to hear Bill's cries every night over his lost love probably weighed heavily on him. Serves Widowmaker right.
I mean, he could've tried to rope her again. Why didn't he? Am I missing something from the story?
Widow Maker was standing on the rope when he tossed it to catch Sue. If he hadn't of been standing on the rope Bill wouldn't have missed.
#inn the widow maker and pexaces are back together a man and his 🐴 and his name is widow maker
It may be because we're in the south and my son attends a southern school - some administrations can be terribly prissy about such things down here. :)

That was a very sad story, but I hope it'll be better in the remake.

One question, I thought Pecos was not a quitter, so why didn’t he try more than once?
Don't ride a horse you don't know or can't handle Sue. Bad choice she made.
We did the play in 5th grade.
Cool Sheila what character did you play
@@kelsimorrison1222 I was just a cow poke with a short line. Don't remember what it was. LOL..
