I sat here frozen for 9:27 remembering 40 years back to my Pecos Bill Golden Book (hard to believe it was 30+ years old at that point)
I didn't even get goosebumps until afterwards I was in such a trance. I immediately remembered every page and word.
I had all but forgotten about this, yet this book is the reason I am literate! I remember learning to read it so I wouldn't have to wait for someone else to do it for me.
I had the record too but only heard it a handful of times before it was stepped on and broken. I still remember those guys telling the story.
Wow, thank you so much for a GREAT reminder and bringing those memories back.

Got a disney LP album in Christmas 66. Had this story and several other disney vignettes. Haven't heard it in about 45 years, but still remember every word! Thanks!

Pecos rolled a smoke & lit it, then he swallowed it & shit it, now it's Preparation H for him each day.

It's nice to have pleasant childhood memories. Suddenly, though, real life wisdom and information forces you to rethink things. The native Americans were not happy to have their land taken away and to be massacred virtually out of existence. The child is innocent of all that, but when we still have a deeply problematic relationship with those first Americans, their survivors, we as adults have to change our understanding, and be sensitive to the reality that, Indians were not colorful, violent, less-than-human characters. They didn't "force" us to decimate them.
All I'm saying is we have to do something like acknowledging the realities of the Native American history, just touch on that. So there is no chance we are just perpetuating all of that brutalizing mindset portrayed in the cartoon.
Way too serious perhaps for this context, but I would rather err on the side of being humane and sensitive, though this is also an awesome and lovely portrayal of the mythical West.

The narrator of this Prague ad claimed 55 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence were Protestant. I'd take exception to that; The author of that declaration, Thomas Jefferson, was skeptical of Christianity. Many of the Founding Fathers were men of "The Enlightenment" not died in the wool Bible thumpers like the the Pilgrims. Charles Carroll of Maryland was the one Catholic who must've been of the former. Many of the "Signers" were Masons.
