The president of General Motors recently willed his 1936 Steinway & Sons 5' Model S grand piano to Joseph Conyers. Joseph is the founder of Project 440, Assistant Principal Bassist of The Philadelphia Orchestra, entrepreneur, speaker, educator, and inspiration to a new generation of young musicians. The artisans at Cunningham Piano Company recently finished restoring his piano by replacing the soundboard and pinblock, adding new pins and strings, and overhauling the entire keyboard action, making it sound and play as if it was brand new. Joseph came by the Cunningham factory to see his piano and christen it with a new name - "Clara" will be soon coming home to join his double bass, "Norma"! In this video, Joseph reveals how he got his start in music by playing the piano, and how incredibly helpful that has been to develop his musicianship and career as a double bass player.
