  • GMC's Most Rare Pickup Truck! That Eats Ferrari for Breakfast!
    The legacy of the GMC Syclone, a vehicle that transcended traditional boundaries and redefined the pickup truck segment. This isn't just the story of any truck; it's the tale of innovation, performance, and rare collectibility that the GMC Syclone embodies.
    Our narrative begins with the dramatic unveiling of the Syclone at the 1989 North American International Auto Show, setting the stage for a revolutionary new vision for trucks. Originally conceived by Buick engineers and later adopted by GMC, the Syclone emerged from the shadows of rejection to spotlight GMC's ingenuity. With the adoption of the 4.3 liter Vortec V6 engine, GMC not only made a financial decision but also embraced a powerful identity, culminating in a truck that boasted all-wheel drive, 4-wheel antilock brakes, and a turbocharged engine capable of delivering an astounding 280 horsepower.
    But the Syclone was more than just its engine. It was a design marvel, from its all-black color scheme to its aerodynamic ground effects and sport-tuned suspension, offering both aesthetic appeal and exceptional performance. Inside, the Syclone featured contoured bucket seats, a full range of analog instruments, and an array of convenience features, emphasizing comfort alongside functionality.
    Our video also highlights the Syclone's limited production, with only 2,998 units produced, and its special Marlboro edition, making it a rare gem in the automotive world. Its legacy is sealed by its performance, famously outperforming a Ferrari 348 TS in a Car and Driver test, illustrating its unmatched speed and acceleration for a pickup truck.

    Excellent video and so refreshing to see that people are still into these trucks. Typhoon video next?? :)
    As a lifelong Sportmachines enthusiast, I want to mention that the Syclone & Typhoon never came with "Vortec" 4.3 motors. The only Sportmachine that did was the 1992 Sonoma GT- the first GM vehicle to be equipped with the Vortec engine code. The Sy/Tys came with the earlier 4.3 motor, without Vortec heads. Though perhaps a petty distinction to most, there is a 30+ horsepower difference between the two types of heads when installed on a naturally aspired 4.3. Had the boosted 4.3s in the Syclone & Typhoon had Vortec heads, they would have had around 60 more horsepower! Some enthusiasts did add the Vortec heads but they are not a direct bolt on, requiring a significant amount of work.
    What gems these trucks are. Thanks again for the video. Cheers!

    So a real sy/ty is almost in the realm of unobtainium, but its cheap and easy to build a clone. 98+ roller cam 4.3 with mercury marine 4.3 boat intake manifold, any 4x4 s10, astrovan transfer case, and 120$ jungle website turbo, hp tuners will do the stock 98+ s10 4.3 computer. .....also grab bravada front ,and rear differential for a g80, and locked in front

    • @StanW.-jg2ft
      @StanW.-jg2ft 4 місяці тому +4

      Reasonably affordable yes, but as someone who has completed a similar build, I'm not sure I'd use the term "easy", lol. In my experience the 98+ computer is quite tunable, though I paid to have mine done. The original Sy/Ty turbo manifolds fit the vortec 4.3 fine. However, there is a bracket requiring modification and the a/c components don't provide enough clearance to run the downpipe. There are workarounds; extra points for creativity. Also, AUS injectors make upgraded spider injectors that can be installed as an alternative to the marine intake. I run them and they work fine for me.
      There are likely plenty of items I've not listed. These builds require a real commitment, imo, but the end result offers great performance and endless fun.

    Just a little ahead of its time. Buying trucks that were performance oriented and not built for utility purpose wasnt a thing. You wanted fast you bought a car. It was hard to wrap your mind around ownong a pickup that will gap supercars. And it would be years before suvs became the want of every soccer mom out there. So sales were low. Low enough for gm to discontinue the line. If they launched these in the early 2000s. They would have been a huge hit. And prob still be in production today. But hey remember when it was crazy cool to have cigarette branding on everything. Marlboro bucks or points. Ppl had jackets and all kinds of shit plastered with Marlboro on it. Lol gross
