    Much enjoyed. Re. "sport": pursuits such as shooting, hunting, angling, ferreting etc. are the historic definition of "sport", as conserved in the traditional tweed "sports jacket" with its dedicated pocket for percussion caps; whereas cricket, tennis, etc. are properly termed "games", as in "being off-games". So, it was the games-players who annexed our word to make themselves look smarter, and who now seek to make it exclusively theirs. Cheeky blighters!
