It always blows my mind how pristine the condition of older games in Japanese retro stores are. Really reasonably priced too. Good luck finding any CIB SNES in pristine condition in the US for an affordable price these days.
It is so awesome to live in Japan if you are a game collector. I can find retro games in the box for 300yen and cheaper.. Another great Hard-Off episode!
@@mysterymanifesto Not sure exactly what you are LOLing at. Doesn't matter where you live or what floor of Ms you frequent on a weekly basis to prove your weeb-worthiness. At one point in time retro game collecting was the best in the world in Akihabara, but those days are at least 10 years ago

Hard off stores are always great to find games at good prices. Some of them are really cheap, but they usually come with some kind of problem. The good thing is that they write what kind of problem the game has.
I know it's hard to commentate out loud in the stores, and I really appreciate that you go back and edit in audible commentary. Another channel I watch a lot who dives into _Hard-Off_ for retro games is _Jcontra_ , and I can't hear what he's saying most the time because he uses the original audio. Plus I like that you give a clear shot of the cover, and show the price. Could you perhaps have a strategy guide special, or just look at some sometime? Thanks man!
@@MadPanicGaming Oh man, I'd love that so much! Especially those _Futabashi_ guides with all the original art (if you could ever find them)! Thank you so much dude! Although I know _Book Off's_ normally have them, I'd be happy with anything you find, lol.
Hey Jim, like always your videos are top quality. It's relaxing watching it. You can make an exciting thing, into a relaxing thing. Good voice as always :D Stay awesome Jim.
Just kinda crazy what you can find in these Hard offs... even these smallers ones that supposedly don't have much, I'm always floored by what they have. xD Nice to see that this is good business in Japan. Kinda the same thing for Goodwill in the US. Here in my country, old electronics, consoles, portables and games will most likely spend a ton of time in someone's attic or basement, and then eventually end up in the trash. Majority of second hand usage ends up going through donations here, but electronics are not a big part of it, so we end up generating tons of eWaste. I live in a capital city that is relatively small in comparison to others in the country but which still have most retail chains and all that. There are no big chain stores to deal with stuff like that. Which is kind of a pitty... I wouldn't mind getting lots of second hand stuff for my sideprojects. Guess if I ever moved to Japan I'd end up furnishing my entire place with secondhand stuff. xD Seems like a very good way to save money and stop stuff from becoming electronic waste.
that japanese box for galariens is super awesome looking. i remember seeing that picture before and though it was just concept art but never knew it was used for the japanese cover. that X anime PS1 game still has a fantastic OST thought
I'd totally watch you dig through the junk bins for an hour lol. Have you ever thought about frankensteining a junk console from the bins, taking it home and testing it out? Seeing if it works? And if it doesn't, fixing it? I think that would make for a good video...show people that the consoles aren't "junk" junk...
Looks like a decent Hard Off after all, could have had more Saturn and PC Engine but a couple of good games there. Congrats on the Holy Diver cart, a fine price! I usually buy my games boxed (partly because I don´t want to buy too many) although if I see something rare or expensive I can settle for a loose cart.
Albert Odyssey on the Saturn is actually Albert Odyssey Gaiden and the third/final game in the series. 1&2 were sufami exclusives and still haven't been fan-translated into English... 😢
I wish we had game stores like that here in the US I have to travel 2 Gilbert just to go to Bookman's witch is 2 and a half hours away nothin good like that in the states anymore.
Would you entertain the idea of....for a small fee, people that come to Tokyo and you be a game hunting tour guide for us that wanna game hunt with you at all/most HardOff & BookOff & I like Geo Stores myself!
Great video! Makes me remember my yearly trips to Japan and time spent at the junk sections of Hardoffs in Kyushu. What is the song at the end of the video? Sounds oddly familiar. Cheers.
always love these HARD-OFF trips! would definitely hit one up if I ever got to Japan! I hear sometimes the 'junk' stuff works but it's just dirty or missing cables? Suppose its a 50/50 shot the games/systems actually work but I hear they aren't always broken?
I picked up Wonder Project j2 with memory card and non used sticker for 120¥ in 2013 in a hard off. Junk bins are literally treasure dumps. Edit: and Baku Bomberman 2 for n64 for like 600¥
Being in Tokyo really drives up the prices. While most of the stuff on display is at a decent price, there aren´t really any bargains - mostly solid market value (which is totally fine if you are visiting and want a few things - definitely beats some of the prices you'll see in most of Akihabara). That said, that Hard Off had games in better condition than you usually see at these locations, so that was a plus. Where this stuff gets really interesting is in Japanese cities outside of Tokyo (although Osaka can be bad). You can find some truly incredible deals in Book Off / Hardoffs across the country. Sapporo´s book off had tons of great deals for example when I visited.
Back in the states they say the instant ramen is really bad. Like it’s loaded with toxic stuff that can cause major problems. Is ramen really that bad for you?
No, it's not. Probably not a good idea to eat nothing but ramen because it doesn't have a lot of nutritional value, but there's nothing toxic about it.

That's true, you don't have to be quite so careful with loose carts.
damn you missed an opportunity to say when you went by the vacuums, "here is a wall of vacuums but their selection really sucks"
