The CEO of Omega confirms why I love wearing mine. It's not about bragging, it's an achievement I saved for and proud to wear. It's a time piece of heritage and precision.
Patek’s latest tag line is “if you can’t afford it, they don’t really care what you think about their design”. What’s nice about Omega is they also have a great historical impact, continued association with NASA, and yet they remain humble. Their staff at the Bienne museum are super friendly and accommodating and again, very humble and friendly. Sadly we see far too many arrogant brands led by such CEOs, such as AP’s Bennahmias etc. I wish we saw more humility across these brands, irrespective of how big a price tag they may carry.
I've always been treated very nicely by Omega staff in thier stores. They are always extremely welcoming, even to enthusiasts who are just there to look.
Thats also the reason I sell all my Rolex watch. I seems unfair that you must pay extra at grey market to get a brand new or if you buy at AD they will push you buy unpopular model a lot before let you buy a popular sport stainless steel watch. You treated poorly like you seems very lucky person in the world to get a chance buy their watch. After using Rolex watch for quite sometime I think the quality not even better than Omega. Its just the hype. Better buys something from brand that value you as a customer that need to spend quite ammount of money to buy a good mechanical watch.
I have even more respect for Omega having heard their CEO. I own two; one vintage and a new Seamaster Aqua Terra 41 with an Olive dial. Great watch. Next purchase will be the FOIS. I can't afford to buy a watch that costs more than $15K so Omega is perfect for me. FYI, I do own a Rolex but it's an old one and really wasn't a very good watch, even when I bought it in 1998.
' Wearing an Omega will have more smiles than dangerous ' true to that from the CEO himself . If you were to compare it to the other brand with crown :)
I wish they would go with an internal helium escape valve on their seamaster 300m watches. I have an older 300m chrono with the blue wave dial which has the external valve which is ok however the newer models have an even bigger external valve.
What the Chinese brands have been able to do over the past few years have shown just how over inflated prices are for the Swiss brands. Not to mention the majority of parts for those Swiss watches are produced in China 😂
Great short interview. I always wanted an Omega. When I was young they were only a couple hundred $$. Was I smart....NO! Now I am old and still not smart 😢with no Omega and a pension that will never be able to afford one.. sigh again. Don't be like me...sigh yet again😢😢
Inflation, economic downturn, covid over, informed/younger consumers, smart watches, and Asian factories refining and improving quality control, means more conservative buyers that are more focused on essentials over luxuries. I see the midrange entry level brands like Tissot, Casio, Citizen, Seiko, along with rising Microbrands like San Martin, WISE, Christopher Ward, ect really becoming the focal point of horology. Cheaper, more practical/affordable watch brands are better than ever and constantly improving. I think a new Quartz/Smart Watch Crisis might arise amid economic depression, and global instability.
Interesting take. We are definitely seeing a reversion to the mean in luxury goods following the post lockdown binge. Not sure if I agree that microbrands and entry level brands are the new focus of horology. They’re having a moment (especially some of the micros you mentioned), but they’re not displacing Rolex, Richemont, the Swatch Group, etc. Instead, they’re creating a parallel market. And, like it or not, the center of “horology” is the Apple Watch. I think it’s important to note that essential goods AND luxury goods are less vulnerable to substitution effects and price inelasticity than the midrange. The disruption of the Apple Watch distorts the whole spectrum of watches so let’s think of cars instead for a moment: when the going gets tough, demand for midrange or aspirational luxury goes down first. Demand for cheap new cars or used cars goes up because people in the midrange shift down. But, demand for Rolls-Royce’s doesn’t go down and they still sell out. This is because high end cars aren’t for transportation any more than high end watches are for telling the time. They are both for conveying status, rewarding achievement, and declaring exclusivity. They’re about technical prowess and craftsmanship, not about doing work. People who were going to buy a Casio when times were good are still going to buy a Casio (I love Casio by the way). Same for people who were going to buy a Patek (I also love Patek). But people who would have bought something like a Citizen, a Tag Heuer, or an Omega will likely make a different choice.
Omega is not a brand like Patek or Audemars Piquet. You can get Omega watch with automatic movement for 3-4k dollars so middle class workers are definitely able to afford it. And they definitely also will be affected by those tariffs.
@@oskarskalski2982 Here we go again...People who can afford 4-5K for watches do not worry about paying off their rent, mortgage, monthly home expenses...they won't care if they pay 500 or more for a watch that's worth 5K...So that's why tariffs are important for things like steel, grains, soybeans things that can skyrocket the cost of living for a family, an individual or an enterprise...Omega watches ARE a luxury (yeah they do not cost as much as a Patek, no sh!t sherlock)...
@@nobody....168What are you on about! Your comment contradicts itself. You think tariffs reduce inflation! That only works if you live in a country that produces an abundance of everything you introduce a tariff on. Failing that you either import at a greater price or your home grown manufacturers increase their price due to lack of competition. Simple economics not economics for simple people.
@@davidowen2859Whaat? When/where did I say/imply that tariffs reduce inflation? Maybe you read other comments? I wrote that tariffs on Omega watches will not make people worried..
It’s a game of chicken. Yes these tariffs will hurt Americans but they will absolutely cripple these other countries. They will bend the knee and treat America fairly, most likely before the tariffs go into effect. But Trump will be looking for one country to make an example of…just don’t be that stubborn leader.
Cut 2 Trillion $$ off the Fed payroll, raise tariffs, lower and\or eliminate income taxes, leaving more people with more $$ to spend as they choose. America First, but everyone will benefit.
Nah, eliminate tariffs, increase income taxes on the wealthy, increase taxes on corporations, CUT taxes on lower-income individuals so they have more money to spend, and ELIMINATE income tax on individuals below the poverty line. This increased federal tax revenue can then be used to create a BALANCED BUDGET (a phrase that you NON-fiscally conservative Trumpers never use) to pay for better quality public education, infrastructure, and the entitlement social programs that literally everyone who isn't a billionaire or multi-millionaire supports.
Omega is not the leading watch brand in terms of sales but it is one of the leading luxury watch brands. They also blow away Rolex in terms of quality timepieces for the price.
@@robd7934only if you buy it second hand. Depreciation is horrible. Before you reply that you’d never sell an Omega, wait until you run into financial hardship and see if still feel that way. It happens to people all the time.
this jocker needs to reduce the price by 50% or else the young will continue to move more and more towards apple watch. The bar should be lower for Swiss watches.
While it definitely would be nice for Omegas to be half their current price, I don’t think even a 90% discount would slow the adoption rate of smart watches. It’s just a totally different thing: luxury Swiss watches aren’t actually about telling the time, they’re for telling a story (often about the wearer, to himself or herself). They’re an ornament, a trophy. Think about how one of the most desirable features of some mechanical watches is a sapphire glass exhibition caseback. The Apple Watch is a tool or an appliance. It’s a faceless and ultimately disposable platform for apps. The fact that they occupy the same place on the wrist is about the only thing they have in common. Because of their place as luxuries to be admired and coveted, and as long as people are willing to pay, Swiss watched should maintain aspirational pricing.
Probably definitively not the apple watch, but brands like Longines, Mido, and Seiko have become more attractive with the big dogs consistently jacking up prices.

The X33 gen1 was such a fun watch. Wish I kept mine.

lol probably has a smoke while sipping black coffee eating bacon and sunny side up eggs.

Sort out your bezel action please. Thanks
Nice add.
He should have asked if he is going to discontinue the current Snoopy. Hahahaha. I am trying to decide if I should buy one from the Gray market?
Watch inflation has been well beyond normal inflation for decades. They're pricing out the enthusiasts that buy watch after watch.
I wouldn't care if there were more tariffs on luxury goods. I can afford it.
As Omega watches have a huge mark up they will just take a little less in US and add a bit across the world.
People who can afford Omega watches won't be affected by tariffs...

Dont care cos ive never desired an omega watch.. ive never looked at an omega and go, “wow! I gotta have that watch!” 🤷♂️
He initially says the right pronunciation is O-meg-a, then later on he keeps on saying O-me-ga. FAIL.
Omega watch too valuable ?! LOL
"Leading watch brand" 😂 This guy is delusional. He obviously does not read the sales data

He might be referring to the Swatch group as a whole including omega 😂
“Between $5k and $15k” absolutely correct statement. Overall only 2nd to Rolex, even if there is a massive gulf in profits between the two..
It is one of the leading brands, and from a quality and innovation perspective it is definitely a leader in the watch world.
