ANCIENT MACHINE Build | The Pump Drill

  • How do I drill a hole? Primitive Pump Drills have been used all throughout history as a means of drilling holes in bone, stone, wood and pretty much anything that needed a hole in it. Oh yeah...you can also make a fire with it! The Primitive Pump Drill in the video is one of many types that utilizes a sliding antler clamp.
    Some footage is missing from the video...due to one person, me not hitting record at one point. However putting the las holes in the pump lever and securing the cordage to the top is easily understood.
    Thanks a million for watching, liking and sharing my videos. I appreciate the support you all have given this channel! Your time, interests and feedback are important to me. I really want to say thanks to each and every person who likes, subscribes and shares my videos. Much respect!

  • @hello7533
    @hello7533 Рік тому +1

    Would it not have been way easier and more energy efficient to make the spindle flywheel from clay? Primitive technology does a similar thing, seems very long winded to shape and drill the rock. Not saying youre wrong, just wondered if there was any advantage to doing it that way.🤙

    • @DonnyDustsPaleoTracks
      @DonnyDustsPaleoTracks  Рік тому +2

      Advantage is…mine is more durable. I move around and travel….cave to cave and shelter to shelter. I believe he pretty much stays in place. Clay when fired can be fragile. Stone is better suited for travel, durable and will be heavier in drilling deeper holes in harder materials. Great question.

    • @hello7533
      @hello7533 Рік тому +1

      @@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks fair point. Yours would definitely last longer, wouldnt have factored that in to the pro/con etc. 🙂
      Raises a thought in my head: is it the diameter or just the mass that makes the difference? For example, if you could make a big thin disc it could be lighter and thus better for travel with the extra diameter creating the same force as a smaller but heavier disc. Im gonna go look at some physics equations now to see if thats right. 🤔🤣

    • @DonnyDustsPaleoTracks
      @DonnyDustsPaleoTracks  Рік тому +2

      Great points. Slate will work. Clay discs, wood, stone and even some bone will work. I find the weight of the round stone makes a huge difference in drilling speed more important stone is more durable.
