    I was always weary about this and laptop form factor. I recently picked up a cheap gaming laptop for my son's birthday, not really expecting much, came with an rtx 3060 and 5600h with a 144hz display, the thing rips. Really impressed

    I'm still running a 5820k with a GTX 1080 and runs like butter, although I don't play at very high settings on games, but will probably look at upgrading finally next year maybe.

    Thanks for the Whokeys they are a lot better than the Ebay sellers.
    I am also a NUC user as I've had a NUC 7 running continuously for five years.
    I just ordered a NUC 13 to replace old faithful only for the faster performance.
    The problem with Asus and other Chinese minis is the dumbed down bios.
    None of them allow power on after power failure. I'm away form home a lot and if there is a power and it's longer than the AOC backup I can't remotely get into the home computer.
    I also have a Topton with an Intel I9-9900 and 64 gb of memory (Don't waste you money) and an Asus PB50 with AMD Ryzen 7 and 32 gb of memory (not bad but no power option).
    The little NUC 7 blows them both away and I have access to a full bios.

    As much as I love the value and added performance of these NUC alternatives over the "official" Intel ones, I still have some reservations on computer/tablet/phone manufacturers that are headquartered in China. My primary use case for something like this would be as a home server, not necessarily just desktop and gaming use, so all of my most important information is running through it. The stuff that I specifically don't want to host on a cloud service for privacy concerns.

      Where are the components in most if not all of your devices made?

    • @iburley_
      @iburley_ 11 місяців тому

      @@bederhajali it's a fair point, but there's a huge difference between manufactured overseas and having your company headquartered in China. Still a risk for sure, but the hope would be that the contracting company would inspect the product that they received and compare with the supplied wiring diagrams. If the company is headquartered there the government can make you implement backdoors and share encryption keys and shut your company down if you don't comply.

    • @bederhajali

      @@iburley_ I hear you my friend. It's very hard to pin point what is happening in technology any given time. Remember how VW and Harley-Davidson were able to fake emissions. I think the rule of thumb is try not to put anything you really don't need to put on a PC.

  • @Neil-Aspinall

    Don't be fooled. This IT13 i9 is the noisiest PC you will ever hear, the loud fan never turns off. The 'i9' power is 'i9' by name only when it comes to actual performance.

    Intel is discontinuing their NUC lineup of PC's. Never had one myself, but I always thought they were cool and of course they were responsible for the small form factor boom. The Geekom looks pretty awesome.

    @dragonsystems5973 Рік тому +3

    Kinda cool, but I would rather see them put something like a 13th gen i5 notebook chip with a notebook 4060 or something like that, I feel like the use case for the powerful CPU would be pretty limited without a reasonably powerful GPU

    • @lrbrugby
      @lrbrugby 4 місяці тому

      That's how I feel. If you go with a processor from a couple of generations ago, the price to value ratio really improves. Not top of the top performance, but it becomes a much better PC for the money spent. I have the A5 and while a Ryzen processor, it much better fits my use case for the money spent.

  • @praetorxyn
    @praetorxyn Рік тому +1

    It would be cool to see a throwndown / shootout between all the mini PCs you have (assuming you still have some of course). I have considered getting the Beelink GTR 7 [Pro] or the Minisforum UM790 Pro to use as a rendering box because of your GTR7 review. I like the IO on the Beelink better for the most part, but I like that the Misforum has HDMI 2.1 and comes in a barebones configuration so I could spend less money and get better RAM / SSD.

    • @Helios.vfx.
      @Helios.vfx. 10 місяців тому

      Hi, so it'd be good for rendering and 3d / cad software right ?

    • @praetorxyn
      @praetorxyn 10 місяців тому

      @@Helios.vfx. I can’t speak to their efficacy for CAD rendering. I meant Handbrake rendering, like taking a Blu-Ray rip and encoding it to AV1 with Opus audio for about 99% quality at maybe 20% file size. Logan has shown that the Beelink GTR 7 is good for that, as rendering a 1 hour episode to AV1 with a desktop 5950X only did it about half an hour faster than the Beelink, but the Beelink barely consumes any power and can just render for you in the background while you use your main machine for something else.

    Great for office workers or office workers working from home. Programmers, managers, underwriters, marketing analyst, and employee benefit specialist/analyst. I like the CPU power, but still not something to consider for gaming. Maybe add a dedicated GPU Nvidia 3050 ($250 currently) or just get an Xbox series X.

    I love the concept of those mini PCs but there is so much wasted potential. WIth my tiny 11600k, which is just a 6 core, I get around 11.000 cb23 points while this 14 Core 13th gen just gets about 8k. I understand that its not all about speed every time, but the cooling is holding it back just so much. It stays in the 70s because it runs at 35W. Properly cooled this cpu could be a monster but not like this.

    But who would need it thats my question? I'm actually looking for nuc to replace my laptop to run ableton live. But does ableton need a 14th gen i9? Hell no! And video editing and cad/3d rendering benefits more from a beefy gpu as does gaming. 🤷‍♂

    why get this when amd is so much better - intel eol the nuc so this platform for intel is not going anywhere and lastly just wait for zen5 mobile - zen5 looks great so unless it is an emrgency and you need it now wait and get 30% more ipc - that is a lot but it is what zen5 is offering up and will probably kill intel - intel had a 10% gain in ipc from 13th to 14th gen for comparison - intel is between a rock and a hard place

    Clicked the link, $850 for the least powerful i9, Ram is only DDR4 3200 which is just stupid for an I9, Iris graphics is just terrible for anything' above an i5 and a waste of money with no dedicated card. This would be for someone who has no idea about what they need but want to say they have an i9. Anyone that would need an i9 wouldn't even think about something like this.
