  • Nazi Germany developed numerous tank designs used in World War II. In addition to domestic designs, Germany also used various captured and foreign-built tanks.
German tanks were an important part of the Wehrmacht and played a fundamental role during the whole war, and especially in the blitzkrieg battle strategy. In the subsequent more troubled and prolonged campaigns, German tanks proved to be adaptable and efficient adversaries to the Allies. When the Allied forces technically managed to surpass the earlier German tanks in battle, they still had to face the experience and skills of the German tank crews and most powerful and technologically advanced later tanks, such as the Panther, the Tiger I and Tiger II, which had the reputation of being fearsome opponents.

As an American kid growing up watching WW2 documentaries and movies with german soldiers in ww2 the germans had the cool toys. My favorite tank the King Tiger II 🐯 I know after the war history was being erased glad to see these beautiful machines survived.

1s and 2s were junk. 3s and 4s were better but still not as good as T34s. In hindsight, if Germany would have “only” produced Stug assault guns both short and long barrel versions, they would have faired much better. What they needed were larger quantities of quality armor. The Stug had the highest number of enemy tank kills in WWII. They could have been produced in larger numbers than any other armored vehicle they made during the war and would have been more effective than the smaller quantities of the other tanks combined. What if, Barbarossa was initiated with 20,000 Stugs and 20,000 of those excellent half tracks and troop transports? In Moscow by end of July early August?

Terribly. The Abrams would be able to easily shoot through the front of either tank, and probably straight through a Tiger I from front to back. Neither Tiger's guns would be able to destroy an Abrams, the most they could do is damage the gun and tracks, and maybe jam the turret if they get a lucky shot on the turret ring.
