  • Is there a wrong way to power your pedals?
    Can you give them the wrong type of power and damage your prized possessions?
    What plug types should you get? What about polarity? Does it matter?
    There is so much to consider when considering how to power your guitar pedals. Check out this video and the links below to find out the info you need to know when providing power to those noise makers in your rig!

    As I sit and wipe the tears from my face It’s so comforting to realize I’m not alone. It’s the fights with pretentious drummers claiming our pedalboard is just us complicating things. They toss around remarks like “your always chasing that dragon like an addict and always making up issues with a venues dirty power because we seek attention” I’ve been in recovery for 6 months now and it’s been 5 months without relapsing and buying a new pedal One day at a time!

    Whoa, thanks, I happen to have a new H9 max, and I'm glad you prompted all these power checks as I'm about to embark on a serious board build with a load of expensive analogue, digital, midi capable pedals!

    When choosing a power supply there is only one feature i look for, a recharable battery.

    Glad I bit the bullet and the Cioks DC7.
    Can power pretty much anything at any time any place and it’s super small. Can always add on too if I need more power (at that point, I’d need a hand truck to haul my board around though haha).

    I think something that is always missed, is protecting your power supply from bad power from the wall. I always use a Furman power conditioner for everything i plug in. If I've invested all this money in pedals, power supplies (love the GigRig stuff), and amps, it gives me piece of mind, that i have another layer of protection. For the cost of another pedal, I think it's well worth it to have a consistent/dependable/clean source of power.

      Very cool. Love this. Being totally honest, I've never had one! The self healing fuse in the generator always gave me piece of mind though as well. Having the power conditioner I can only imagine even more so!

    Many thanks for the useful info. The Plethora x5 coming with 600mA input 🤨 n the Zuma can supply all of my pedals. I dont know if the plethora will work with the one 500mA left on my Zuma 🤔

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio  3 роки тому

      Give it a shot and see. I wouldn't be surprised if it was over spec'd and didnt take a full 600. The other option - can you daisy chain 2 pedals off one of your other outlets on the zuma (leaving you with 2 spare outlets) and then get a current doubler for the X5?

    • @RawadAMassih
      @RawadAMassih 3 роки тому +1

      @@GoodwoodAudio yeah that would be a solution. The Hardwire polytuner has a DC output. Then i can spare two outs of the Zuma for the Plethora. Many thanks for the advice

    Wish I had this video years ago, have you ever had to chuck a brand new blue sky in the bin?

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio  3 роки тому

      Not yet thankfully. That would hurt. The good news (hopefully you can still get that BlueSky back - is if you send wrong power to a pedal and damage it, its often a simple enough fix for a tech to do... a few parts worth a less than a dollar and some time.

    • @NatedogsYouchoob
      @NatedogsYouchoob 3 роки тому +1

      @@GoodwoodAudio I took it to a tech and he said it would be cheaper to buy a new one, not sure if he couldnt be bothered. Ive never gone back there since.

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio  3 роки тому +1

      @@NatedogsYouchoob Good call. Really shouldn't be a hard fix. If it ever happens in future, just get in touch with the manufacturer and see if they have anyone in the area, or if they can send part #s so a tech can replace the parts.

    If the Hulk is dating Black Widow, would his current rate increase or would the voltage increase?

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio  3 роки тому +3

      Alan, I appreciate this line of questioning and its sophisticated nature. Since this is hypothetical in nature as the Hulk isn't Black Widows cup of tea, I think we need to presume that the answer is - Both. His SPM (spoonfuls per minute) would increase as due to nerves - caused by Black Widows impending breaking off of the dating relationship. His total intake would also increase due to stress eating. All this to say, it is a cruel world and you should never date Black Widow if given the chance. I wish the Hulk would have known better. Shame.

    I use a Voodoo lab mondo brick which has isolated ports and daisy chain 5 pedals that are all 9V, but they vary from center positive and negative polarities.
    I’ve heard that whatever the case is for the pedal, if plugged into an isolated power source, it’ll work fine.
    But since I have 5 pedals with different polarities all going to the same 9V isolated port, is that going to be a problem?

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio  3 роки тому

      Its possible yes, but not impossible to overcome. If you have adapters for every center + pedal then you should be fine. Main thing to be aware of though is current draw and required voltage. Looks like you've got required voltage nailed down (all are 9v), I'd just check the current draw to make sure you aren't going too high there.

    How would you rate the Harley Benton ISO power supplies? They look like good value on paper.

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio  2 роки тому

      great question! Never used one on a build yet... on paper they do look good - you're right. Good price. A bit limited on link specs though (1A) means you can't link a ton of supplies together without using the mains output (which is a good option).

    hey guys I have a "specular temps reverb" and i using a "The GigRig system" which is the correct option to power it this pedal? direct to distributor or do i need a isolator?
    thanks?

    • @GoodwoodAudio
      @GoodwoodAudio  3 роки тому

      I'd add an isolator for the Spec T. However, if you aren't getting any additional noise when plugged into a distributor (make sure other pedals are plugged in and using the same signal path) then you should be fine without... I've never run the Spec T without isolated power, so actually not sure if it needs to be isolated or not. Give it a shot!

    What is that Goodwood Temple Module in the picture?

    • @GoodwoodAudio

      We actually don't have a Temple module. I have a feeling that's just one of our boxes lined up with the cutout on the side of the Temple board.
