This is actually the eruption at Fimmvörðuháls, it's right next to Eyjafjallajökull and was a precursor to the big eruption there. There is very little footage of lava from the Eyjafjallajökull eruption since it was mostly covered in giant plumes of ash.

@donalduck815 Yes, actually rock erupted from Iceland can been found in both Canada & northern Europe equadistant from the volcanic fissure it originally came from. Whatever falls to the west eventually (hundreds of millions of years later) ends up in Canada, and whatever falls to the east of the fissure ends up in Europe. That's plate tectonics for you.

The activity is confined to that fissue and the lava is of a low silica rate which therefore makes it unlikely to be explosive eruptions, so providing nobody gets too close to the lava fountains or the lava flows then it is quite safe being there. Even if you did try to get close to the lava or the fountains the intense heat would drive you back.
Wow, no wonder the people of Iceland have been leaving in droves. Would you stay if there was a volcanic rift down the middle of your island and it started to erupt? Sadly, this is probably the beginning of things to come.
Volcano's are the worlds pressure relieve valves. After all those earthquakes recently, ít's just a sign there's to much pressure inside the Earth, that's why this eruption.

These things have been erupting for eons. What I would like to know is, does the surface of the Earth proportionably fall in as lava emits, or is there a progressively larger void within our planet?
@alise5571 thats not that big :P i mean there is a small island that once started to erupt and my dad was on a ship to put the fish to the dock but he really dint care just finished it and thene he left :P
@pureCanadian82 Carbon dioxide is essential for terrestial life. on differant planets oxygen might be deadly for organisms. This has happend it Earths early evolutiojn period.

CO2 is very much needed to provide life my friend....Plants give us O2, but for them to give us that, they need C02. It is the circle of life my friend...
