That cloud of ash made a beautiful looking sky yesterday in the Netherlands. It was truly beautiful. The whole sky was a mix of orange and purple colours.

This is even better than the last, martzata. Keep them coming. This is like having a front row seat, right up there with the pilots. Fantastic ! Good Tunes too!

i saw this on the plane home too! it was so cool and i was lucky to get home a few hours before the flights closed down. It's only a small eruption, they are more worried about it triggering the big one which i was bumboarding down the other day! :D :D

It depends on the wind-flow dude - the wind is from the NW, so it's blowing all the ash and stuff south. America-Reikjavic flights are still going (last i heard) because they're coming with the wind, but everything from Iceland South and Eastwards are being closed off.
There's satellite picture on BBC news which shows Iceland in top-left, and britain in the middle, and the ash is all going England, Norway, down through Denmark to europe...

@xASxDragoon This is the fourth or the fifth time Eyjafjallajökull erupts since Iceland was settled and an eruption of Katla has always followed the eruptions before this one we see here today. The odds are pretty good, personally I think it's only a matter of time...

@idwiw6057 It's not the smoke that's the problem, but the ash, it doesn't take a huge amount for it to screw with engines. Also breathing it in too much will shred your lungs. The volcano keeps pumping that crap out and the wind spreads it.

    Ay-ya-fia-dla-yu-kudl.
    Hope that helped.

I like the way the islandic people refere to the vulcanoes as "she". Kinda like how we norwegians talk about the weather.
Wonder when the movie is coming out. Working title is: "the day the earth sneezed".

And there has been an awful lot of earth activity going on around the world ...............haiti, sumatra, china......iceland - surely this will all lead to something big perhaps? Largest volcanic eruptions this century (so far)..
    3. Okmok (Alaska)
    2. Unpronouceable Iceland volcano
    1. Chaiten (Chile) only VEI 5 this century
I have no proof this one is bigger than Okmok (both were 4s), but this one affected more people.
