This came at such a good time, I literally was working on a portrait and struggling with shading as this was posted! Sidenote: I really love your art style and cant wait to see how the portraits come out
Love these tips and how you do your shading and lighting! I’m always afraid to do more bold shading in my alcohol marker art because I’m afraid of messing it up 😭 I’m in a little art slump right now too. Thinking maybe I should do more portrait studies like this 😁
Even though you said you’re not paying attention to likenesses that much; but whenever you make portraits you still do an excellent job of capturing the faces of your models accurately. A perfect blend of style and realism ^^
Love to do white and black value study. You can learn so mich aber contrast. That's so important for realistic drawings ❤️ but like you say the reference is also important. 😊 It's easier when the reference have a clear light source and great contrast. Thanks for the video
Thank you for sharing 💕 Sometimes I feel like a “bad artist” because a piece doesn’t turn out how I wanted it to or because I’m struggling to improve certain skills, so to see a artist I admire be open about experiencing those feelings too and to hear how you push on and create anyway hit me right in the feels 🥺💓
I really like the mix of the markers and the texture of the pencils and the subtle colouring the pencils added. I'm also glad you share things you feel are less than your best - it is helpful to know even the best of us have what they feel are off days (even if I'm looking at your off day art in envy LOL)
just got the 168 marker set from ohuhu in the mail as a bday gift 🙌 regardless of whether or not you set out intending to add color to these portraits, in the end it came out really cool, like light shining through an insect wing. thanks for sharing the process with us ☺️
Absolutely agree with you that it's good to share things you might not be 100% satisfied with: it's insightful to see and hear! Have a lovely weekend, I'm spending mine with swatching and rearranging my Ohuhu markers in a new bag, so it's a good day 😉✨
I just got this marker set and I am pretty new to art so the colorfulness of the set intimidated me and I decided to look for videos of more experienced artists using the set and your video is awe inspiring. I know you said this felt like a slump to you but I hope my bad days art can be as pretty as yours one day. ^^ I am so thankful that you didn't scrap this video. When you are having a rough time, remember that art beginners like me learn through watching and most of them rarely comment so you leave an impact both in your good days and your bad days. Thank you for making such an enjoyable video!
I have a lot of appreciation for your talent and the insight that you share with us. I started following you in March of 2020 and you have helped me come into new forms of expression in the times that I have needed it the most. Love and respect. Thank you.
I love these so much I love how use colored pencil it makes ur art so alive.I would love to see a redraw video of old art! It can boost ur confidence and show you how much you have improved and it's always a fun challenge for me.It even shows me what I want to make even better about my art.
Thank you! This video inspired me alot. I like the approach of treating the shadows as geometric shapes. I think i will try to incorporate that in my own drawings :)
Thank you so much for your honest words! It’s really uplifting to know that artist you admire have the same struggles from time to time! ❤️ And I love your portraits anyway, thanks for the tips and inspiration!
Eyyyyyy less than half an hour ago??? 😎😎😎 Also it may have been an afterthought but I really like the idea of adding pops of color to the greyscale!! Nice points of interest for some sketchbook pieces
Thank you! I am currently painting a fan art of Cheetara. Because I’m not painting her as white woman in the pursuit of learning different skin tones, this was exactly the video I needed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤️
I am trying to expand my ohuhu marker set and saw these. I wasn't sure how I would be able to use these since I work alot in color. Seeing you layer the color pencil on top of the 1st portrait inspires me to try these for many of my style of art. Thanks for the video!
This was so well executed! I hope even if you're not 100% happy with these pieces you still enjoyed the process and it helped you get back into things. Anytime I watch your videos I feel like I gain so much from watching how you do this and feel inspired to try my hand at drawing portraits again
Thank you so much for this video. I was beating myself up because I wanted to get better at doing portraits but I’ve been scared that no matter what I try, it won’t come out right. But watching your video makes we want to give it a try, even if I mess up!
I really enjoyed watching this video. Love how you approach a practice drawing. The second study you showed is my favorite one. I’ve been wanting to try this technique and I got a lot of markers that I need to use. It’s a nice start to drawing when you’ve got an art block. I do have a thought I would like to share. Alcohol markers kind of breaks down the pigment of the color itself, even with a neutral color. So it will kind of fade on white paper making it lighter than it appears to be. That’s why you need to create a certain amount of layers to get an idea of which colors works to your liking. Anyway I know that I went on too long with my comment. Hope I helped in some small way. Can’t wait to see another video. Take care. 🥰🦋❤️😊
Glad to hear you're finding some ways to combat the struggle of having to produce art commercially ;-; I'm sure it can be quite exhausting, so take your time on testing out what works best for you
Can u start showing the names or numbers of the markers ur using? I want to follow along with ur videos to practice and it’d be a lot easier if you tell us what maker ur specifically using!

That’s so pretty! It’s like realism mixed with your style and it’s gorgeous

The texture from the coloured pencils really completes it. I love it! 💖

This is such a good drawing! You should definitely do one of a boy. I think that would be awesome! Great work and keep doing well! ^^

This might be really weird, but you sound exactly like my doctor 😂 she's super nice and calming, so it's more so a compliment haha
