Now my toe puts and tensioners have on car camping stuff, like a 20x20 tarp, I use bungee balls. Either straight or doubled up. Tart clips are another way to ensure I don't over stress the tie outs. I put tarp over a ridge line and use prusik knots to slip it into place and lock it in place.
I do have some other ideas I want to play with come summer.

Thank you, I figured it would take time to build it up.

I use the "Bungee Clove hitch" style tensioner you show at 1:50. However, on the free ends of the now hookless bungee, added a double constrictor knot to each end using some nylon twine (trotline) to keep the ends from becoming frayed and the elastic core in place. Tie the constrictor knots on the ends before you cut the hooks off. Great video! I'll have to try the thera-band type next.

Great info for a beginning tarp camper like me. Thanks, Mike.
What thickness of shock cord and lash-it do you recommend for guy lines?

    •  7 років тому +1

I'm not sure how thick the shock cord is but the lash-it is a standard 1.75mm. I have been avoiding the shock cord and sticking with the bungee cords. The shock cord hasn't been holding up as well in high winds.

    Hi, good vid.
    Thx you for charing.
I like the version with thera-tube.
    Question:
How long last the green thera-tube? I'm asking about, because thera-tube is not UV-resistant.
Thx in advance for you answer.

What size and diameter shock cords who you?

As always. Great video! Are there any kind of tensioners possible that don't use elastic? Like leverage based or something?

    •  7 років тому

Thanks Jeromy, besides the tensioners I showed in my guy line video, MSR makes a CamRing Cord Tensioner, there is the LoopAlien which is an interesting piece of equipment, Liberty Mountain makes a few different styles, or you can try a pull tab off of a can (I haven't had much success with this one). If you are asking about a lever and fulcrum system, I'm not sure about that. But it is an interesting concept that I will look into.

Is there a specific reason why you use the green 80 lb. resistance band vs for example an orange 50 lb. resistance band or is it just what you had lying around?

This may seem like a silly question but does "where you place the tensioner".. for example at either end make a difference....to the stake vs the tarp ? I would think not but in your experience any issues? Thank you again.

    •  7 років тому +1

No such this as a silly question, just silly answers. I have attached tensioners from the tarp going down to the stake, from the stake going back up to the tarp, and in place of guy lines all together and I have not had issues with any of it. Most of the time I use the Thera-band tensioners on the back side of my tarp so I don't have to deal with setting up guy lines. Eventually I will do a video on my tarp's setup covering all of the little components I've added after I'm done with the current video I'm working on covering poncho tarp configurations.

What length shock or bungee cord do you recommend?

    •  5 років тому

I eyeball it so maybe 6-7 inches unless you are making a loop out of them, then I would double the cord for the knot and all.

A source for the Thera-band tubing would be handy.
