- Опубліковано 1 тра 2024
- On this week’s episode on the Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, we are joined by Bayern Munich legend and German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger.
We join Schweinsteiger in Munich, where he won eight Bundesliga’s, to reminisce on his impressive playing career, including his move to Manchester United where he was reunited with former coach Louis Van Gaal and how things took a turn for the worse under Jose Mourinho.
The German international reveals what piece was missing in the puzzle of that 2016/17 Manchester United team, and which rivals they could have learnt from. Plus, would a move away from Old Trafford be best for former teammate Marcus Rashford?
Schweinsteiger has played under some of the greatest managers, as he tells us about winning the treble under Jupp Heynckes in 2013 and trying to adapt to Pep Guardiola’s style of play at Bayern Munich when German football was number one in the world.
Bastian also speaks about the impressiveness at Bayern Munich, Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben’s competitiveness and changing tactics.

That’s why I love Bastian! Gets “kicked out” of the dressing room, and we hear no complains from him, not even a single news at all

They would have spinned the narrative, it's more shocking to me that the players don't defend their teammate... What is football these days I don't even know
Can't believe what I am hearing how he was treated by the Club. Bastian handled that with such class.
If the fans knew about this there would of been uproar, an absolute disgrace by United. The club is a joke and its essy to see why we failed over 10 years!!

Actually, we did know about it….. granted I’m in the US, so my influence isn’t all that great.
I could be wrong, but I thought he had said something, Jose took it a certain way, his legs were gone anyways, and Jose put the hurt on him???? I could be wrong on that though.
Embarrassing man
2 legends 😁 Fantastic interview.
Hello Müller!!
You should be on next. Obviously on a rainy day, in a studio in Stoke. Overlap, make it happen 😁

Never did I think that a World Cup winner, a champions league winner, one of the best midfielder of his generation, a legend of one of the great clubs in Europe been kicked out of the dressing room and had to ask others to move his stuff just because he wasn’t allowed and had to train with the U16s. He was sad just to recap it to Gary and he still loves the club. All the love to you Basti. Good change is coming soon to united. Thank you for your service to our club. Forever legend❤
Class act as a footballer and a human being
Classy gesture from Schweinsteiger 👍 Until now I still dont know what to expect from Jose 😅
It appears united has a very terrible human culture. That is why the team is been struggling for ages. The culture robs down the players and makes them incapable of performing. These American owner should just leave .

People outside of Germany dont realize that this guy is our Steven Gerrard / Paul Scholes. A whole generation grew up idolizing this guy, even if you hated Bayern.
I'm Polish and have to admit, watching Bastian play for Germany was always a treat and a pleasure. As a kid my favourite midfielder was Ballack, as a teenager it was Bastian. I wish he played for Schalke, not nearly as prestigeous as Bayern or United but they'd sure treat him as he deserved.
Respect for Bastian. Treated appallingly by United didn't rant to Twitter, didn't leak stories to the press. Just took it on the chin. Despite it being a real kick in the teeth for him personally. And he talks about it now, fairly and without bitterness.
On a side note, listening to any german player talk about football is great. They all discuss the game so eloquently.

Both Ronaldo and Schweinsteiger both commented on how surprised they were at training facilities, gym etc. That is mind boggling for one of the wealthiest clubs in the world. Surely a club like that should be updating equipment, facilities etc regularly.

Between 2009-2015, Schweinsteiger was arguably the most versatile CM in the world. Most fans would remember him for his defensive attributes, but he also had unbelievable ball control, passing range, and decent dribbling skills from his flamboyant winger days early in his career. Nothing short of world class, and an absolute Bayern and Germany legend.
Agree. I have 3 CM that are in their own league in that era : xavi, Scholes, and Schweinsteiger. Maybe Pirlo also. Schweini was my favourite german player.

Crazy thing he loves United and always posts about us. I'm sad it ended so badly, he was a good player and senior in the dressing room
It is SHAMEFUL the way he was treated
It's because Bastian understands the difference between ownership and the core of what a club is, he knows that it's Glazers and Woodward, not people the club stood for, it's been infuriating 15 years of seeing United in the hands of Glazers, losing all the standards and practices it stood for since Busby days.
