He's pulling a Morrissey.
Carpophage , by the dong
Definitely pulling a Morrissey
- Girlfriend in a coma
- Super serious.
He just threw it like it was nothing. I love Jon Hamm.
dead giveaway
Could i love Jon Hamm any more?
(rhetorical question)
John pretending not to know "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" killed me. Just admit you love Morrissey dude! It's ok
I'm as unlikely as him to be a fan I was brought to the Smith's by marr unbelievable guitarist.
I bet he can name every bside.
LOVER LINK hahaha
😆 🤣
the man from Mad Men adore music of the Sad Men.
Muarif Sumahar Ohh brother. Cutesy, try-to-hard.
Jajajaja
adoreS
Jon Hamm is being extremely modest about his love of Morrissey.
Chris: Girlfriend in a coma I know...
John: It's serious, its super serious
Chris: YOU DO KNOW THE SMITHS!
John: Who?
You love Morrissey don't you Squidward?
Ibo J love this 😂😂😂😂
I live for this comment
I find it fascinating that people seem to just get sadness out of Smiths' lyrics. What about the humor? The Smiths were the only band EVER that made me laugh out loud at their lyrics!
Noodleydoo exactly, lol
What?
"Let me get my hands on your mammary glands"
“some girls are bigger than others”
Yeah, exactly. Those who say "it's mopey and just sad, i don't get it" completely missed the brilliance of The Smiths/Morrissey. I've never laughed harder at lyrics more than I have at Morrissey's ("the pain was enough to make a shy bald Buddhist reflect and plan a mass murder", "your BF he went down on one knee, or could it be he's only got one knee", the entire Vicar in a Tutu song, even song titles "mute witness" 😂😂😂
"Girlfriend in a Coma is super serious"
He's messing with him big time. He's been following Moz since the early 80's.
He's like Michael Keaton's character in the other guys. "I've never heard of TLC."
Jon Hamm the ultimate troll lmao
Jon Hamm is the best!! The fact that he knows about music, even if it's not his favourite says a lot about him. Very cultivate, clever, witty guy.
I think these two should get a room.
they're in a room
Hahah
f montes so they can listen to Smiths Records?
So they can secretly, and sincerely take their own Li.....
NO, to trade personal information, so they can get on each others Christmas card lists.
This has to be a sketch, right? Otherwise... my crush for Jon Hamm has just blossomed into proper love.
They’re just doing a bit; playing against people’s expectations of hamm. He’s a funny guy and clearly loves the smiths. This is a way to be funny and show his love of the band.
lol he's fucking with us and its brilliantly done.
I love Hamm's honesty here and the fact he passed on the opportunity to pretend he is a music guy. Met so many people that are twice as clueless and claim that music is their life etc.
spot on
you scare me
People enjoy things in different ways. Not knowing the facts doesn't mean someone doesn't love music.
It’s a bit, this is a funny way of showing that hamm IS a music guy who loves the smiths.
I was in the USMC in 89 but anyway, I am a true metal head since 82 but when I got to my first duty station a buddy of mine introduced me to The Smiths and that was it. I’ve been a true fan ever since
He could just have a trivia oriented memory. I need a mnemonic device to remember my social security number, but I'm constantly suprised by how clearly I can remember specific scenes from movies I watched once, fifteen years ago.
I honestly don't even know who Jon Hamn is but I guess this guy just retains knowledge very very well, meaning he can talk about a lot of different subject ranges with specific information.
You really need to watch Mad Men. No, you have to.
Your comments rings true to me (even though I know very well who Jon Hamm is) because I'm just like him. I'm aware of random stuff and I don't even know where I got the info, it's like being a sponge. Being curious about different things and simply aware by default seems to be why this happens. He may be trolling but I can see how he may be actually honest when he says he is just aware of it even thought not a fan.
Gregor Carlin a normal human being
Agreed, Sofia, but I think trolling would be too strong a word. Hamm could be showing his sponginess or Hamm (or both of them) could be affecting the situation of his Smiths non-allegiance for laughs. Just clowning about, really.
Musicians are spongy about music across all genres and performers. They often know stuff about music they don't like or are indifferent too. Maybe Hamm was a frustrated musician before he became an actor. He definitely has Moz/The Smiths character off pat; misery in a major key.
Anyway, Hamm seems like a nice chap. I might check out his films.
I need that shirt so bad
Lyrics written with tongue firmly inplated in cheek. That was the brilliance of the Smiths. Jangly pop melodies with wry sardonic lyrics.
Post-punk, the absolute darling genre of music critics...bring that bass to the front, jangly guitars, sing like you don't care, and critics will love you
jaivas16 ......unless you're U2.
alot of post-punk has pretty angular guitars. but yeah turn that bass the fuck up in the mix
Absolute darling? Dude, you haven't a clue what you're talking about..
The darling of anyone who isn't an idiot, you mean. What were we supposed to listen to in the '80s? Dokken? Motley Crue?
profd65 Excuse me? Who the fuck are you calling an idiot? You must have gotten your lilly ass kicked by someone wearing a Dokken shirt back in the day. Yeah, you trench coat, half shaven purple hair, eyeliner dweebs were soooo smart. Pfff.
How can't you love the smiths!!!!!!!!!!
Easy. They suck
Hahaha it's unreal how you could say they suck. I LOVE the Smiths so much and they have had a huge impact on my life as well as my guitar playing but even if you're not huge into their music you can't say they suck because Johnny Marr's guitar playing was literally genius and completely unique and influenced so many people same with Morrissey's voice and lyrics, they were so unique and influenced countless others
The Smiths suck?
Well aren't you just a boy with a thorn in it's side. What happened? Did your walkman start to melt so you couldn't appreciate them?
Or are you just a belligerent ghoul that gave up education as a bad mistake?
Anonymous DueToFascists Not liking a band doesn't automatically mean someone is an idiot. Saying they suck is a bit harsh, but not everyone connects with The Smiths. They're not as iconic as their fans make them out to be either. I hadn't even heard of them until I was well into high school. I had heard of bands like The Cure and Joy Division long before I heard of The Smiths. They're good, but I don't see them as that amazing, to each his own.
The Cure??? Now they suck. And Joy Division had only a couple good songs. Interpol took the style of Joy Division and did it much better.
He's sooooo trolling this guy! 😂
*Morrissey Won't Admit He Secretly Loves Meat*
*Make Morrissey Eat Meat!*
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Pahahahahaaa! Nice one, sexobscura
Johnny Marr Won't Admit He Secretly Admired Mike Joyce's Drumming Skills lol
That comment is bad taste
It can be perceived as being cool and collected to casually lie about passionate knowledge you know about someone or something; something you do have some passion for; to make light of it to not sound obsessed or fixated. He doesn't want to be quizzed about Morrissey trivia after saying something pedantic like "I'm a big fan", so he's doing this thinly veiled ruse instead to stay modest.
He never said he didn't listen to the smiths, he said he was introduced to it late in life and that when he listen to it, he never fell in love for it...But it sure seams like he listen to it and "studied it". There are plenty of bands that I I know a lot about (maybe it's collateral acquired knowledge, say... because so many friends (or a lover) were into it...Maybe it's a generational thing, that made him know about it (he seams to have an amazing memory/learning skills) but still, he can't say he loves their sound... Anyhow, it's not my case in regards to the smiths, I love the smiths...
Me 2 . :)
Ana Siqueira *seems :)
I bet he can name every Moby b side
My brother knows The Smiths because we lived in the same house and I played them all the time. Sometimes he surprises me with what he knows. He also knows some Depeche Mode through vicarious transmission. Sometimes he'll spit-out a lyric or two.
Same, my sisters know songs and bands just from when I lived at home so they definitely are more aware than non-fans in terms of lyrics and album titles, but I know for sure they are not fans. Just aware.
Haha....this is real funny...and The Smiths were amazing...and Mr. Hamm knows it.
I get it. I worked in a record store for seven years and acquired a lot of knowledge about bands I don't listen to.
It's weird seeing don draper say the word "erasure"
miraeja especially when he was wrong mentioning them. They are not in 24 hr Party People, I guess he was thinking of New Order.
He would have been about 55 in that era (Don Draper, that is), so Kurt Loder or Rodney Bingenheimer age. Could work as a sequel!
Wth. Hes pulling the guys leg. He is obsessed w the smiths
sundance kidd The nerd looks like he’d like to pull Hamm’s leg.
It’s a bit, they’re both in on it. Jeez idk how this went over so many peoples heads
@@baxoutthebox5682 surely it's not a pre-planned bit; the interviewer is a very talented and nuanced actor if so
@@pukeyourguts if you google his name, yes, he is an actor with 51 credits in TV and movies. But, nuanced? He’s playing the straight man and it’s pretty straightforward here, act incredulous.
Fuck....... I truly love this man...... Jon you're gorgeous, smart, funny and clever! I do love your voice so much.
The pause and look to the people behind the camera when he mentions "I used to read the Rolling Stone! ........ " hahahaha
This is like the captain played by Michael Keaton in "The Other Guys" pretending that he's not referencing TLC
They should’ve had a quiet fight at the end of the interview….
I like how they just let the interview go off organically onto this tangent and let it linger there. It really showed a different side to Jon's personality.
Manchester is where it's at, dude. Music is our saviour from the grey laden skies :)
when you sleep I will creep into your thoughts like a bad debt that you can't pay.
I watch this clip once a month, maybe more, I Love it.
Lot's of guys from the Midwest for whatever reason refuse to admit that they like them. Sad really. I'm from the Midwest and those bands are literally ALL that all I listen to.
Sad really, that those bands are literally ALL that you listen to.
This is platonic, leg-pulling flirtation at it's very best ...🤠🤠
This man has charisma!
Might he be a Charming Man?
jeez. john hamm has so many levels. what a mind he has. he's a pisces, virgo moon.
this is just so bizarre, why can I not stop watching this?
wtf is this. kinda entertaining somehow.
HaHa! I know right!? It's like road kill. You don't wanna see it but somethings intriguing or just not right or something, and your like wtf is going on here?!!
Jon Hamm....it's not something to be ashamed of......oh i love it.....it takes one to know one, and Mr. Hamm......you ARE one.
Can you make the footage shakier next time? Needs more Blair Witch vibe.
haha unlucky m888, i didn't even notice. plus i'm never gonna watch this video again so i never will notice. life is good
Chris Gethard is an actual person's non-porn name? That's the most amazing part of this.
God dam this is a great example of a good conversation folks
I'm a hardcore reggae music man and I loved the Smiths from way back in the 80s, showing my age. I must be one of the few black men in the world to admit that :)
This would make a hilarious skit
This made me lol and like Jon Hamm. So, nice.
This is my favorite youtube video of all time
Ha, I remember that Dana Gould bit. It was on pre-Comedy Central, when it was Comedy Channel. There was a part where he went "I cried and I cried and then I DIED" and he talked about how you only need one Morrisey album because they were all like that.
Clown F#$#er! Lol
Jon Hamm is da man! He even knows more about the Smiths than the fans
oh i was so interested in this video, i wish there was subtitles so i could know what they're talking about :(
Were of my favs too as a teen. Ham's cultured and interested in prominent music cultures
There isn't a card stuck in the soldier's helmet Mr. Smiths fan
no, the phrase looks like its painted in the helmet. I actually had to check that, bc when he said it was a card thats the way my brain painted that memory. H probably remembered the phrase being on the helmet and closed the gap in his memory by making the logical assumption that it was on a card.
But i bet you had to look at the first before you could say that
+iutlu.....hence, the Mandela effect
Honestly... I totally feel John. I feel like I know so much about “cult” bands that I don’t even like too much.
he excitment of the interviwer its exactly of that when two smiths fans meet
How does this not have a million views
Watch Henry Rollin's take on Morrissey lol Perfection!
Wow, I like both Jon Hamm and Morrissey both a lot more after this clip (recovering Smiths fanatic)
have ya relapsed yet my man or did ya get that 3 year chip
This is hilarious! Hamm is good at straight comedy here
What she said
How come someone hasn’t notice
THAT I’M DEAD
And start to burry me God knows I’m ready..
Don Draper denying his roots!!
after this interview, he frowns, then leaves, meets a girl at a bar.
and then his workday starts, at around 2:00 p.m.
He totally looks like a Morrissey wannabe
Jon is one cool cat
i've watched this so many times
So much charismaaaaaeeeehh
did i just get sienfelded at the end?
It's because cool, happy Johnny Marr wrote the music and grumpo Morrissey wrote the words. I love both those guys.
Hamm .. you're quite the mad man !
this is so great
Betting Moz has the red telephone in his office that only Jon Hamm phones
Where there's references to both the Beastie Boys and Morrissey, I shall be there.
note to self: never mention those two acts in close lexical proximity
I just love Jonn Hamm more now !
What a beautiful man
C snap loves my favourite band, thus made my day
I just realize that this guy is one of the Dwight's friend's in The Office
Guys, it's possible. I know of a lot of films that I never watched (like production details, director, cast, award nominations, reception, etc.). I bet you can know of albums and bands that you never listened to.
The album title is written on the solders helmet, no card.
Yes, it was photoshopped though, it didn't originally say "Meat is Murder" I don't remember what was written previously, if anything.
And of course the double reference of Meat and meet
I wish you would have known you, Jon. I would have loved to take you a tour of Chicago's punk scene.
3:31 is hilarious given the context of all this
He's not laying down any obscure knowledge. Anybody who grew up in the 80's knows about Meat is Murder. I feel like Chris' amazement is rooted in a more recent discovery of the Smiths.
I disagree, a lot of people know The Smiths but wouldn't be able to name any albums or songs, let alone comment on the characteristics of the lyrics! Besides don't forget that both of them are American not English
Lol, that's bullshit. Certainly in America the overwhelming majority of persons in the '80s had never heard of the Smiths, and they certainly weren't aware of particular albums of the Smiths. I was in college in the '80s; I know.
You were in college in the 80s therefore you can speak for an entire generation
+Eden Villejulla > He's not laying down any obscure knowledge. Anybody who grew up in the 80's knows about Meat is Murder
You'd be very surprised...
His knowledge around that Manchester sound, as he said, is probably not common for a lot of people outside of the U.K. though lol
Newfound admiration for this Hamm man.
Juan Hamm; El genioso
Hey, a mention of 24 Hour Party People, what a great film
I'm exactly like Hamm in that I know a LOT about the Smiths without ever having been a huge fan. I'm also incredibly good looking.
"This is a song I wrote during a difficult period in my life. Over breakfast. It's called 'hairdresser in a coma'."
How do people here not get hammbone is doing a bit. He’s a funny guy
Jon Hamm is so great
Jon Hamm one of the coolest guys on earth
What a cool dude.
Freakin John Hamm 😄
Brilliant.
He's pullin a Hamm.
Guy with glasses, did he come out in the office as Dwights weird friend?
