Erik is naturally sexy and sad (sympathetic) the same time, Gerard was perfect 😂😂 i can forgive the stupid deformity because of his acting, his voice and the rest of this magnificent movie. Definetely my favorite movie of all time, following by The Ring (2002).

I rewatched the movie recently and I have so many thoughts on it. He (the phantom) was so abused and heart broken that everything was so triggering to him. He went in his relationship with Christine expecting failure because of his face and he snapped everytime she got close to him but in reality his deformity was not really involved in the choice she had to make- to leave him and go with Raoul. In the end you realise that his internal deformity was what kept her with Raoul. She felt abused by the phantom. He only wanted a way to get close to her but he didn’t know how to handle the intimacy and this is really heart breaking. He became a murderer to protect himself from the world- he killed two people that he felt would eventually discover him. His relationship with Christine and the fear of losing the best thing that ever happened to him made him a murderer and eventually that aggressive nature made her abandon him . I fully believe that she was his soulmate and had he kept calm she would in fact end up with him instead of Raoul but Raoul was her safety and The phantom was just an idea she was infatuated with by the end.
I always liked The Phantom of The Opera. But seeing it with Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum oh my gosh. I Loved every minute of it and cry they were all amazing. So intriguing, mysterious, intense romance. I'll never be the same. 😌😔❤
I Watched this with my mom a week ago and she kept saying through out the movie that the phantom is abusive and its like shut up mom im seeing the good in it. lol.

His voice was perfect for the role...I don't know anything about music, but I know that I connected with the character through, not only his hot face, but his beautiful voice....filled with emotion. Tell you what, this man could eat crackers in my bed any day he wants, him singing to me would just be a bonus.

Usually I don't want to take sides on movies and make like deep analysis about them but it's specially hard not to be by The Phantom's side in this one. He was creepy but I don't think Christine was right in betraying him so harshly and rip out his mask in front of everyone and all... They could've talked about this... Maybe that's why it's so sad
Odd that they say he'd never been in a "major" film production since he played Dracula in Dracula 2000. Not necessarily major but still a main, iconic role And yes, the phantom NEEDS to be sexy in some ways. While the principle story is romantic beneath that is the dichtomy of human nature. Dark and light and how you choose between or balance on the dividing line. Phantom had to be darkly seductive and in being so, wouldn't have blamed Christine for any "bad" act or manner she might get into. Her choice is between seductive darkness and fantasy and the shiny new penny romance of her childhood. Personally, I'd have chosen Erik (Phantom) no matter appearence really. In wanting to "control" Christine, she'd have known much more freedom of exploration of herself and others with Erik, without societal judgement, instead of Raoul, a Nobleman who's every thought and action are mostly dictated by others and their opinions/expectations
I bet the director was like, SCREW IT JUST MAKE IT SEXY TOO And yet he's still complaining that it's too sad for that. lol I would of done that also if I was him.
Indeed. I wish Gerry had directed this film. And I hate it when people bitch about Gerry as the Phantom when he clearly understood the character, and it was just the director who kept him from giving his everything to the role. xP
PhantomSammy Yeah. He didn't do anything wrong, and one of these comments said that the Joel wanted him to be shirtless in the final lair, but he refused. He clearly understood that the Phantom wasn't supposed to be drop dead gorgeous and walking around without a shirt. So props to him for preserving Erik as best as he could.
