- Saudade was almost included on 'some kind of peace' but I couldn't seem to find a place for it until Vincent Moon and I started writing the script for When We Are Born - then everything fell into place.
Listen to Saudade & watch When We Are Born here:

I'd also love to hear your versions of it! Download the sheet music for Saudade in the link above.

"
Saudade is a word for a sad state of intense longing for someone or something that is absent. Saudade comes from Portuguese culture, and it is often expressed in its literature and music. Saudade is described as a kind of melancholy yearning."
It depends on the situation. It could be a word linked to a happy moment. When you see someone for a long time and you say “Saudades tuas”, it could be translated as a good moment.
Ólafur’s music always transports me to a different place. Sometimes, I see memories. Sometimes, I see aspirations. Sometimes, I see fantasies. But no matter what, it’s a better place. And it always gives me hope.
I suffer with mental health issues and your music is always what i go to, yes i cry, it makes me talk out how im feeling, you have no idea how powerful you are... Thank you.
Hey stranger, I wish you get the strength to face it all! You'll get through everything.... It'll all be alright!
Wish you well, from all my heart ❤
It's a relief and release🌟
Hey, wishing you strength, you got it❤️
A saudade é o que ficou do que nunca fomos, Mia Couto.
🇵🇹😁👍
🇲🇿
This is something that will be played in centuries still
Simply the sound of a heart
What could touch anyone
Anything
♡
A saudade de onde viemos antes de nascer, e para onde voltaremos...
Es inverosimil pensar q sabremos la verdad
This song came to me during my Fathers passing which happened during the first COVID lockdown.
Only one of his 3 children was able to visit the hospital to see him. My sister (who was closest) went for all of us.
This music, evokes in me a mixture of melancholy and memory. It’s profoundly beautiful and like much of this man’s music deeply spiritual.
It’s strange, because I read somewhere that Olafur is an atheist. Yet, there are few artists who evoke the profound silence, wonder and sadness of life like him.
So, thank you Olafur for blessing us which such rich musical tapestries. May your years be filled with many more beautiful songs.
*Saudade:*
A Brazilian word that has no translation. It is the felling you have when someone, something or some place you love is far from you, more than missing them.
" Enough of saudade, the reality is that, without her there is no peace, there is no beauty. It's only sadness and melancholy that does not leave me. It does not leave me alone..." - Chega de Saudade - Antônio Jobim
A Portuguese word, please, even if Brazilian people speak Portuguese.
"Saudade", the portuguese word that has no equivalent in any other language, though the idea is translatable, just like music - in general, and Ólafur Arnalds', in particular. Music is not translatable. Music is understandable, is about feelings, is about energy and vibration, just like everything else in the universe - us included. Thanks a lot, once again, Ólafur.
The meaning of the word is nice, but this whole "non-translatable" type rhetoric needs to stop being used to describe certain words of certain languages. Saudade is easily understandable in any other language, you can even just Google it and get it instantly.
@@ruffsnap Well well well, you're absolutely right, saying precisely what I said. It's understandable, not translatable (no other language has a word for "saudade", though they can understand and express the feeling). Funny, right?
@@milodo I'm not saying "precisely what you said" because I was talking about something slightly different.
@@milodo "Vemod" in swedish is pretty much the same as "saudade"
@@AEPMUSlC Wehmut in German, too :)
Stunning. The ability to take a simple repetitive musical idea and orchestrate it such that the piece feels both progressive and meaningful is an art. This is real talent, expressed in a beautiful manner
🌟
Your music is magical and colors my life. Thanks for joining me. Music, peace, love, always. 🌌
When I was a child I used to think that the Universe was made of music. THIS would be the music. Thank you
But the universe isn’t a peaceful and blissful place. I disagree that it would sound like this.
Universe is made of music... they are call frequencies. ❤
With a simple and wordless short music, Olafur has just demonstrated he knows what Saudade really means :)
Brazil! 🇧🇷
Love your music ❤️
Absolutely beautiful! All of your music always takes me to another world!
I feel the exact same way!

Onde houver um título em português, nós estaremos lá.
Tipo isso k
Brasileiros: Chamou?
Amo isso na gente! 😍😂🇧🇷
Hahahaha Yup!!!!
Opa
Trabalho incrivel. Dizer que isto é tocar a alma é muito pouco, isso é um abraço completo na alma. Thx from Brasil!
Verdade
“Saudade is a vague and constant desire for something that does not and probably cannot exist, for something other than the present."
"“Saudade” can more casually be used to say that you miss someone or something, even if you’ll see that person or thing in the near future. It differs from nostalgia in that one can feel “saudade” for something that might never have happened, whereas nostalgia is a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or period in time."
I love it - the word and the song ♥
Just... some kind of sublime peace
Esta melodía toca las fibras de mi alma cómo el amor a un poeta, besándome en lugares que no conocía sobre mí, haciéndome sentir vulnerable, haciéndome sentir parte del todo, en donde me fundo y me evaporo, me disuelvo como polvo, que se suspende en el espacio hacia el infinito.
This video doesn't even need faces or places but strokes of color and waves to show it's creations, this is one of the prettiest looking videos I've seen with music playing
A composition resonates with the heart, evoking a timeless dance between presence and absence, love and loss.
Thank you Ólafur and Thomas Vanz, for this wonderful piece of art, and for bringing a bit of peace in our world.

Saudade que fica, que marca, que chora ao toque, saudade que vibra, que sente e mostra 🇧🇷
Es hört sich soooo schõn an und ist kaum in Worte zu fassen!❤😊Zum Träumen geeignet.....

obrigada por essas palavras... honestly.
When I feel alone or depressed I listen to your music.
I'm always listening to your music.
I discovered this word several years ago, along with hiraeth, and although I'm not Portuguese, I can really relate to that word. I can't quite explain it, but it's the only word I've found that perfectly describes how I feel most of the time. It's not nostalgia, that's too lighthearted. What I feel is much deeper than that. It's not quite homesick because I'm not longing for home or any of the past places I used to call home. There is just so much more to what I feel, that saudade just seems to be the best possible word to describe all of it.
That being said, this song is absolutely beautiful! I love Olafur's music, and this song is perfect. Like another person said, it could take me to another place.~
Incomparably beautiful.
Lindo, tocante, sensacional 🇧🇷💛
As a portuguese native speaker I can't imagine how "saudade" fits in all this, but the song is beautiful and the video is good as well.
It’s that feeling that something is lost and can never be found again.
It's perfect, greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
there are no words to describe the beauty of your music.. ...❤
Es ist wie ein glühendes Stückchen musikalischer Hoffnung in einer völlig verrückt gewordenen Welt.

" Saudade "
Sentimento do que sempre fomos e somos .
Como o gosto de tomar um bom café e sentir a nossa fé.
No criador e no amor , chorando pela pandêmia .
Quem sabe um dia voltaremos a ser como em outros dias .
E neste poema , até JULIO CÉSAR reconheceria a maldade de hoje em dia !
The Sun ...
This is stunning ! Two words only : Serenity & Bliss !!!
