Don't worry, the reaper you were hearing was in the dunes, the only way they can leave their biomes is if you trigger a glitch when you provoke them. Stay near the wreck and stalagmite-type formations, and the only thing you'll need to worry about are bleeders, which almost nobody encounters, and can be fended off with a knife.
if you see a reaper, just remember to strafe left and right as the reaper cannot match your turn speed, and only stop when you cant hear it, its rear indicates that it sees you.

@@kkluka7311 no, infact you're more likely to venture into the blood kelp (weird seaweed with red blobs on them) or the grand reef (covered in blue balls) which leads to warpers, crab squids (emp-ers) and ghost leviathans than reaper leviathans which are in the dunes, you would have to pass the blood kelp to get to them which means that youd have to go the wrong way to get there (so going west, not south west) Look up subnautica map, its got .io and should the first link which there's a setting to show leviathans. Its perfectly safe and there's literally no predators there but try to keep your bearings and look at the floor and you'll be fine. Blood kelp is north-ish and grand reef is south-ish in relation to that zone, so go the opposite way to get back I recommend being braver and looking around a little (remember how I described the dangerous biomes and try to figure out roughly where you need to go to get back or worst comes to worst go back to the pod). In subnautica the places where leviathans are (atleast above ground), are on the outskirts of the map, the place where you're going is not quite there meaning you'll only have safe land when going back to the pod. Good idea to have little in your inventory, you only really need a sea glider, scanner and laser cutter + your sea moth A little tip: make sure to grab rubies and gel sacks. Knife it to get spores but pick 1 up by grabbing it for the recipe for aerogel which is a late game recipe. For anyone worried about leviathans, aslong as you from the pod to the location in a straight line and keep an eye out on the ground then you'll end up around where he is. Think of the area like an arrow like this -> but rotated 90* anti clockwise, the left top line is ghosties, warpers and emp jellyfish (blue glowy balls and pitch black biome) and the top right line is reaper (desert like biome, you'll probably hear "multiple leviathan class, are you sure you want to do this" kind of message if you didn't hear it already, you'll hear the roars). If you meet either and want to get out then 99% of the time its better to run to your pod preferably from your seamoth, generally the left side is annoying but reapers might chase you for awhile have fun ;P.
