This is my favorite industrial strength "get stuff done" knife.
Great steel. Holds an edge very well.
Great balance. Feels like a natural extension of the hand even as a large knife. It does not feel heavy for its size.
Great construction. One of the most solid knives I have ever owned, literally and figuratively.
Great blade shape. Cuts just about everything with ease and minimal resistance.
Like all good steel knives - clean it after use and keep it properly oiled. Take care of it and it will take care of you.
And speak of taking care - when he says it is sharp, he is not kidding. Right out of the box, this knife has effectiveness and danger potential. Be careful with it, especially around those you love.
I liked it so much I got a second one!!
The price for such a decent hard working knife is worth having an extra one. One for the house, one for the truck.
I have had both of them (and used one extensively) for many months now and have yet to really need to sharpen them other than a light honing after a particularly tough session of use.
Considering some of the things I have cut with it, I am surprised at how I have yet to see a chip or notch in the edge. Maybe I am just lucky so far.

such an impressive knife. Around the holidays, you can get this thing for like 55 bucks. Just a crazy good value. to me, this is a true one tool option, and the steel usually comes on customs. Its got really good edge retention and plenty of toughness. with this coating, youll never have to worry, and with a full handle now, there is no modification necessary except maybe some wrap for cold weather. I hate when people rag on Cold Steel...but they can have fun paying more for less.

I got this thing and I started splitting scrap wood at work like nobody’s business. Oh boy it’s a beast!

I refer of course to the CS Recon Scout, and more particularly, the CS Trail Master, which is surely the benchmark knife in the Bowie category. Bytheway.. different metal but if anyone says to you that 420HC is stainless... tell them they're talking balderdash! My Prodigy is a bit rusty! I thought having it oiled in my bathroom would be ok but no, perhaps olive oil was a bad recommendation by someone.

I see so called reviewers constantly try to halve logs by batonnin with a camp knife all the time. there's not usually too many purposes to have a log split in half at the campsite that is that short. But timing from the edge will give you all the processed would you need where the none of the knife damage.

This one with its flat grind reminds me of my Trail Master, swedge, shape of the blade and all.
Is there a big difference between the old model without handle scales? Because I have an offer for a brand new old one, literally a steal.
I just would give it a paracord handle, maybe with one or two layers of Wilson grip tape over all.

Yeah, I know. But the only difference is another color of the coating and the handle scales, as far as I see. Blade size, blade geometry, steel and all the other measures (overall length, blade length, thickness and so on) seem to be the same.
I think I just should do it.
As I said, I am planing to improve the handle with some Paracord, looking to find a way of wrapping that is giving the sides of the handle some more beef. Then having some Wilson Racket handle tape over this - if I feel the need to.
First I'd have a real cheap, but high quality "new old stock" knife from a trustworthy source, no cheap knockoff. Second I have a project blade, making it literally "my knife.
I just wanted to know if you are aware of some major changes from the old to the new model - besides the coating and the scales.
