    Excellent tutorial with good, clear explanations. Thanks for taking the time to make your skill available to us all. Making vids takes time and isn't as easy as many watchers believe, so good on you for the time and effort you invested for our benefit!

    Thank you! I just bought a few inexpensive long linen dresses to wear around the house in the hot weather and really want them to be less restrictive. Easy to follow tutorial...Ive suscribed.

    How does one make allowances for the booty to ensure the skirt doesn't rise shorter in the back than the front length?

    • @rosalourenco805
      @rosalourenco805 3 роки тому

      I think skirts and dresses are not designed taking that into account...it is the same measure all around. at least I have never had (or seen) a skirt or a dress that is a bit longer at the back because of booty volume, lol!

    This was awesome. Excellent instruction, in fact. My mom was a a great sewer, which was something I never paid much attention to. I once stapled some pants up, instead of sewing, if that gives you an idea what a lazy so and so I used to be. I bought a top the other day that definitely needs shortened. I may give it a go. Thank you. :)

  • @AngelaPeardonFineArt

    Thank you! It was a huge help. When you've finished stitching your dress the same length all the way around have you ever ran into a problem where the back would be shorter than the front because your butt sticks out more in the back? And if so how do you correct that?

    It will be easier to mark the new desired lenght if you use another skirt or dress that you have and that is the right lenght as an example/template. Just lay the dress flat and place the "template" piece on top and mark.
    If i may, that extra fabric left after cutting would do a lovely sash or belt for the dress.

    I'm afraid i will ruin the side seam if i cut it, because i sewed it by hand and i'm not sure if it will stay. Any ideas?

    I wonder can i use water removable pens for fabric instead of pins? Love your hair color btw!

    • @RainbowCurveCostuming
      @RainbowCurveCostuming  10 років тому

      To mark the length your mean? Yes you could use a fabric chalk or pencil as well.

    Hello, what if you have a dress that is the length you want the other dress to be. Can you just use that dress to measure how short you want it? Thanks.

    • @RainbowCurveCostuming
      @RainbowCurveCostuming  8 років тому

      Yes measure from the shoulder seam to the bottom or line up the shoulder seams and lie them on top of one another and cut (so make sure to leave a few inches for the hem).

    Did you use a zig-zag stitch or a straight stitch?

    • @RainbowCurveCostuming
      @RainbowCurveCostuming  9 років тому

      A straight stitch. Since it looks nicer on the front and you fold over the raw edges twice. If you fabric unravels a lot you can zigzag it before you fold it over.

    • @christophershafer5615

      Aodhamair Okay, thank you.

    • @shaylacovington8078
      @shaylacovington8078 9 років тому

      Christopher Shafer yeah like she said if you have a material that frays, do a zig zag stitch first! then go ahead with your hem.

    I need to shorten a dress that has frill/ruffles around the bottom. so I can't re-hem it.

    • @RainbowCurveCostuming
      @RainbowCurveCostuming  10 років тому

      That would indeed be a bit harder to do neatly. In theory you could take the frill/ruffles off first, then shorten it and sew them back but that would probably require a lot of repleating which is not for the novice sewer. Maybe in this case you are better off bringing it to a seamstress.
