I love that neighbourhood. I spent a lot of time there and strangely felt a little homesick watching the video. Maybe it's just nostalgia, anyway, great video. Thanks, Pat.
Back in the day you were smarter so you knew that Khao San Rd was in the Bang Lampu area, not that many know that now unless they've looked a bit deeper. l called this video as it is to distinguish it from the Khao San side of the Bang Lampu canal.
@@BangkokPat I dug out my rather tatty 1982 copy of SE Asia on a Shoestring and Banglamphu is indeed what Tony Wheeler called the area. It was the bible for backpackers back then.
Love your videos. For the last 15 years, I’ve spent half the year in Thailand, minus the one Covid year, I still love watching your videos, of neighborhoods I’ve never even walked through. Definitely, trying these new neighborhoods when I’m back next month.
Thanks for the great filming , things have not changed that much which is what i liked about this part of the Banglamphu , so much prefer the old town than the shinny skyscaper modern area bits. Back in late 80's to 90;s, we always used to stay in the New World hotel which is now a very pricy Nouvo City hotel. The rooms were very large and spacious that overlooked the canal. What a great place that was. The little shack next to the bridge was great for some food & drink, believe it is still there but a lot more spruced up now. Around the corner from there in the next soi there was a award winning Thai steet food place with seating in the street , the chef with a wok & open fire, now looks like its gone and a large hotel there. I also used to wander down to the river side fort sometimes . Thanks for bringing back some very happy memories of times gone by.
I like this place, especially when you said that : “ the music played in background with sensible … “ 🙏🏼❤️❤️ Thanks for your recommendation, I will be there soon 🙏🏼
Not many people appreciate your video, I think, unless you have some sort of history or background in the area. Thanks! Your videos remind me of my childhood life in Bangkok. Very much appreciated!
I had a wonderful time in this area in the first years of the new millennium, I had a long-term room at the Suksawat Hotel (now the SS Hotel) (what a strange name for german speakers) opposite the Bangkok Bank. contact with the population was friendly. everything was half the price of the khaosan
I like the Sam Seng.Good values, nice people, good restaurants with good prices and you can go everywhere. Nice walks too the river, sitting in the park. And from San Sen you can go easy around. And I li,e Satong too.
Hi Pat! what a great and informative video! I wish your videos were online back in 2003. Although I did also a lot of walking around in Banglamphu, even had the chance to visit the corrections museum next to the Rommaninat Park. Last time I walked through Khaosan road was 7 or 8 years ago and yes it was mayhem. I’ll guess we r now to ‘old’ for that specific road.
Looks like a nice feel around that area. I often stayed at a hostel in Trok Mayom which was an old teak house. Just behind Khaosan, but still nice and quiet. Imagine it's been lost to development.
I am an old Guy but i still like the KSR area .Your video showed me a lot of new areas i never knew about .I usually stay in the road behind the Temple opposite the Police station .There its usually quiet once you get to your room .Prices are cheap there for Bangkok .
Bang Lamphu sounds like a terrific place. I'm too old for it but still get nostalgic for hostel accommodation and this would be the area to find one. Thanks Pat for bringing it to us.
Phra Arthit, Bang Lamphu and Samsen Road used to be my regular hangouts. Wandering the neighborhood is a favorite pastime of mine as there are so many hidden treasures and everyone you meet is simply fabulous. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for that Pat. Good to see the area again. I love the folks over there. I’ve saved this one to avoid taking notes. My compliments to you’re quality shows and details.

Great job on this video! Love the neighborhood vibe and how you present the different sois. Very high quality and Bourdain worthy! Keep up the good work!
The place is perfect,a short walk to where the action is but much quieter and not to say cheaper, the same goes for the hotels on the road before you cross the bridge
Great video Pat! I lived in that area for many years in the 90's but our house is closer to Prachartipatai Rd. Still have the house and my nephew lives in it now as we bought another house much further away. The area of Samen sois 2,4, and 6 have really changed a lot since then.
Nice little community where the locals are obviously well in tune with having a lot of foreigners about, yet it remains very local and Thai. I have been asked about long term apartments there due to this video! I'm sure its ok living there but on the odd numbered sois across the road better maybe.
Another great vblog, it's not an area of the city I know very well. Interesting to see this although having said that I did spend a lot of time staying there back in 1995/6/96 and spent a chaotic New Years Eve and day there back in 2019/20
Awesome video Pat. I like walking this area also. I didn't know what it was. I will definitely check out those bars and restaurants next trip. Like a lot of your videos this is one I will re-watch over and over again. Thanks!
Great Blues Bar in that area; Adhere The 13th Blues Bar. First went there in 2003/4......oh shit...that's nearly 20 years ago. My first night there I'd already had a few beers and must have got there early as I think I was 1 of about 3 people there. An American or Canadian guy got on stage and knocked out a perfect rendition of Rory Gallagher's acoustic version of As The Crow Flies (off the Irish Tour album). It's a great song and the guy nailed it. I've seen a few different guys and bands playing over the years and all have been very talented musicians.
That area seems to be right up my alley Pat,more relaxed, not to much tourists and a more laid back atmosphere for a senior guy like me,and as always an awesome video Pat.😊😊😊
Cross the bridge near Koh San Rd and its another world, no ' farang ' so different yet so close. Maybe worth a video? Thanks for you trademark cats in videos. Great work Mr Pat.
I have been using Panfa Leelard Pier so many years travelling to/from Khao San Road. But I have never walked the stretch to Khao San along the canal. So strange that I never came up with that idea. Will do in january when I am coming to Bangkok next time! Great video by the way!

It is interesting because back in 1985 we backpackers called the whole area Banglamphu, including Khao San Road.
