WOW. My two most favourite actresses in the whole wide world. Bette for her wonderful voice and Olivia for her beautiful face. THANK YOU BDEyes81. THANK YOU !!!!
I just watched this having beforehand no idea whatsoever as to what to expect. I am absolutely overwhelmed with emotion. There are tears in my eyes and an ache in my throat ...so moving, indescribable really...such magnificent acting by two such beautiful, powerful women! There is simply no one around today who could begin to exert such a riveting hold on an audience...
National treasures. Mesmerizing. De Havelland is amazing in this. Those dulcet tones in her voice. I’m truth she upstages Davis here. But I love them both. And the comedic ending was great.
What a great moment from two giants of their profession. The piece was done perfectly bu each & shows a hint of what each of these strong women must have been like to work with. Such pros - a one of a kind memory recalling a great age. Olivia replaced Joan Crawford in "Charlotte" when Crawford dropped out. Great clip!!!
Seeing Olivia de Havilland and Bette Davis, two women who competed for roles at Warner Brothers way longer before Miss Crawford ever was at that particular studio, working together to promote the film they made that year "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" and to promote their respective careers warms my heart so much. Together people are stronger.
Oh Betty you were so original, so one of a kind - you will always be treasured by the generations yet to come. But these two beauties together with their skills are beyond compare!
Oh yeah, that woman be trippin' on some quality anesthetic! She be meeting Bette Davis. What a trip! I guess this kind of thing couldn't happen in this modern age of the epidural!
It certainly is a lesson in scene-stealing. I was barely aware of him and didn't hear a thing he said. These are my two favorite actresses of all time - great to see them together even if it's to read some bizarro quasi-religous text.
Two real stars from the ear when 'star' meant something! And they were old friends off camera, which makes this performance extra special. Thanks for sharing, it's a gem! X
What a cynical view of women you have! Women can have very deep, profound and supportive friendships with each other and when they unite they are a force to be reckoned with as we see here with Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland. Sadly the misogynistic media wants to portray women as rivals, it's called 'divide and rule'!
@@msgigirogers1559 Then again, none of us has ever met these women, we don't know what they were really like. My sister and one of her best friends have been close for 60 years. No bullshit between them. They've argued, etc, but never really fell out.
Really, only two actresses from the Golden Era could stand before a crowd and read from a book and bring the same emotion as if they were in front of a movie camera -- and without moving a muscle. ;)
Absolutely LOVE Bette's response to Olivia's delivery of her line "Give me my son!" @ 7:25 (a lick of the lips & such a great roll of the eyes... judgment!
Are you taking notes.Any want to be this should be required watching. The two of the best if not the two best actors period.Ny two favorite female actors Bette Davis and Olivia De Havilland . No wonder they called that The Golden Age.What a reading.
It may have been their first appearance on TV together. But he didn't specify together. They were promoting Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte at this time and appeared together again 4 months later on I've Got A Secret.
@@Daisnap thank you - I'd like to see that movie again. James Caan was absolutely psycho in it, but the movie gods found retribution in "Misery" . 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Muzik Queen Come on...Bette was making Joan's life a living hell on that set, particularly since she was also a producer on Charlotte. After they made Baby Jane, Davis vowed never to work with Crawford again, and she was determined in that!
@@ThePharaoho Davis was never credited as the producer on that film. It was just a load of BS Aldrich did to get her to take the part. Same thing with Crawford. he was giving her top billing just to get her to sign on for the film. That movie would have more than doubled it's profit had Crawford starred in it. Pretty much a forgotten movie today.
It's definitely that awful Dead Ringer wig. The DeLorca twins...it was all down-hill for Davis from here...at least until she realized her starring days were over and accepted the fact it was time to do TV or become part of a film ensemble.
1:08 Wow, the moment when they start the reading, and they just turn the "legend" switch on. Great women.
What a.........performance!!!!
Holy cow this is deep! No one would sit through something like this today. Excellent.
I would sit through something like that
SueSnellLives! Sorry. I would.
But we all just sat through it.
And I will come back and sit through it again.
Most people would not watch such a performance today because they do not appreciate great talent and have the attention span of a goldfish.
Entertainment was on a different level back then. These specific stars were looking for projects that meant something other than silly fluff
I love Bette Davis' voice
De Havillands voice is awesome what a reading wow
I too
Bette Davis..developed "smoker's voice."
What talent!!! Bette and Olivia took dramatic reading to a level never to be matched!
Happy 100th birthday Olivia
WOW. My two most favourite actresses in the whole wide world. Bette for her wonderful voice and Olivia for her beautiful face. THANK YOU BDEyes81. THANK YOU !!!!
Strange Bette's voice I have never cared for she sounds the same in all her roles, but Olivia has the voice of an angel and in this she was excellent!
the moment when you listen to them. the moment you imagine as if they are in set location.... thats what i imagine while listening to tis great ladies

Wow ... what a sublime journey, an incredible performance by two true artists.
These two women were dear friends and i think they complimented each other.
It's mesmerizing ❤️
The true definition of Old Pros!
I need whatever this is back on television!
National treasures. Mesmerizing. De Havelland is amazing in this. Those dulcet tones in her voice. I’m truth she upstages Davis here. But I love them both. And the comedic ending was great.
There will never be anything like this again. How lucky I am to have seen this deep and meaningful piece of a script and acting.

This is so beautiful, I love the way they manage to bridge reality and unreality with such possession and flourish. Bravo Olivia and Bette!
❤ Beautiful💖
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. This Hollywood is gone, gone, gone.
incredible talent....two of the best....EVER!
Simply brilliant from two of the greatest.

Happy 104 birthday Olivia ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Two big stars of the golden times.
And how clear their pronunciation 👏👏👏👏
104 already? Very fast.
Oh Betty you were so original, so one of a kind - you will always be treasured by the generations yet to come. But these two beauties together with their skills are beyond compare!
With musical accompaniment- did anyone notice? It's called underscoring. Music BENEATH the voices.
Both my favorite! No one can fill their shoes!
I love Olivia's emotion is this. Bette is more stoic, but that is the character she is portraying. Olivia, to me, is par excellence.
Wow,two of the greatest actress from the golden era.Nothing like this anymore.
Oh yeah, that woman be trippin' on some quality anesthetic! She be meeting Bette Davis. What a trip! I guess this kind of thing couldn't happen in this modern age of the epidural!
What a gem! 2 great screen legends. Thank you for sharing this.
Fantastic! I wondered at the start, but it grew and grew and I loved it.
spectacular performance!
Excellent, thanks so much for sharing.
They were good friends and it shows.
It certainly is a lesson in scene-stealing. I was barely aware of him and didn't hear a thing he said. These are my two favorite actresses of all time - great to see them together even if it's to read some bizarro quasi-religous text.
Excellence&Grace of such calibre! THE ACTRESSES OF BYGONE ERA ... ahh! Bette&Olivia = awesome perfection.
Really charming.
That was just so wonderful!!!
they’re so bite sized and cute
Amazing actresses
Thanks for this video!!! It's wondeful!!!
I love Olivia and Bette so much!!!

Two Queens of Hollywood
In the 80's we use to go to the Hollywood Palace nightclub. So much fun.
Bette Davis have already passed away 25 years. Olivia must missed her
They were best friends but with most women, who knows if that means much. Most women's friendship with other women are pretty interchangeable.

@@farrellmcnulty909 that's true I've been the same way with my close friend too. It's really all in the perception
They practically shot a movie scene. Incredible.
Wonderful! I love them!

Wow that was just brilliant! What a performance! Hush..Hush, Sweet Charlotte...True classic!
WOW! Thanksso much for posting this! Love Bette and Olivia :)
❤
Have you ever seen the small number of 'dislikes' on a great video and thought to yourself, "now, what jackass didn't like that?"
Absolutely LOVE Bette's response to Olivia's delivery of her line "Give me my son!" @ 7:25 (a lick of the lips & such a great roll of the eyes... judgment!
Wow
WOW.. brilliant...
Wow. I didn’t know stuff like this existed. Olivia got the better part, lol. Bette’s so gorgeous in here.
Just brilliant.
Miss Olivia passed away yesterday RIP
Excellent.
Olivia de Havilland looks so young, when you think this was 1964? 25 years after Gone with the wind.
Superb!
Beautiful
when radio drama is famous back then.

Happy 99th birthday Olivia! Jesus Christ Bless you! :)
i was just at the the Palace... now name Avalon. such history.. interesting performance!
Olivia stayed pretty
Happy 104th Birthday Olivia De Havilland!
Two real Superstars ,Amazingly Pro-life...
Marvelous
Entrambe immense.
where do you find this stuff??? i remember it as a child.
RIP, Lady Olivia
This was good.. Bette did well but this seemed to be a natural for Olivia (and it shows).
Bette looks grea here
Anything with Olivia in it is ok with me.
Feud brought me here
That was like a bad trip. Fascinating stuff though!
Gene seems to sound Cary Grantish, not a bad thing. I looked him up to see if he's from England, but no, he was born in NY.
Olivia was only 48 & Bette was slightly past 50.
Gene Barry says this is the first Television appearance of two screen stars greats. Not true, both Bette and Olivia had appeared on TV before.
together?
It may have been their first appearance on TV together. But he didn't specify together. They were promoting Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte at this time and appeared together again 4 months later on I've Got A Secret.
Melly and Margo ☺️💞
Olivia - in my eyes - has stolen the performnace of the story, Bette took the after scene :-) Aw, ART OF ACTING, isn't it magical!
I love Olivia, but she went FULL ham at the end and Bette was having NONE of it 🤣🤣🤣
Bette always superior
what is the name of the piece they are performing?
3:50 HELP! HELP! PLEASE HELP! I'M TRAPPED IN A SMALL PRIVATE ELEVATOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha ha! I thought her vocal inflections sounded very familiar at one point - echoes of Lady in a Cage! Good call!
@@Daisnap thank you - I'd like to see that movie again. James Caan was absolutely psycho in it, but the movie gods found retribution in "Misery" . 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bette was mean to Crawford although I like Olivia I think they should've kept Joan

They need to keep the switch off one of these
And, to think what horrors Bette went through before dying, and yet Olivia continues on into the 21st century, over 100. Fate...is funny.
Hmmm...I wonder if Joan Crawford watched this?
No!!! Lol
cute :)
I've never liked Bette's delivery of lines. It comes from having to project her voice on stage.
Olivia's reading is excellent.
Hush, hush sweet charlotte got very dramatic.
Poor Joan😂
Love Betty Davis always
Olivia ok, but overdone. I think
It's definitely that awful Dead Ringer wig. The DeLorca twins...it was all down-hill for Davis from here...at least until she realized her starring days were over and accepted the fact it was time to do TV or become part of a film ensemble.
what can i say?
no wonder it flopped
