    Brad, even just virtually (all the way from the Scottish Highlands!), I’ve always had the strongest sense of who you are as a man - warm, kind, open, caring and very good at what you do. I’m always happy when you’re on a video or call. I want to reach out to say how very brave you are - not merely in your sporting achievements, but in your ability to be vulnerable- that takes real guts. I’ll be cheering you on all the way, hope you feel all the love and support from us. Onwards and upwards Brad!

      @melmuir2210 You are too kind, thank you! I was very nervous sharing this but if I can help someone else overcome what they're going through then it will have been worth it.

    Hi Brad, I had noticed your absence from various Q&A's and other calls. Thank you for sharing your story. My wife is a breast cancer survivor so your story really hit home. Best wishes for your comeback/ recovery training. I will be rooting for you! Stephen

    Brad - thanks for sharing your journey. I think there are a lot of people who wouldn't have had the guts - they would have felt they couldn't make this kind of video because they were a part of a health coaching company - so thank you for being real, thank you for sharing at such a personal level. I am sure you will inspire many people - and I for one will be following along, and cheering you on (I'm about 5 weeks into my first Coach Parry program...). Dave.

    Brad, I don’t know you but you are very inspiring.this podcast is SO RELATABLE FOR ME!! I lost 160 lbs and have become an endurance runner (over the last two years I have run 9 half marathons, one marathon (will run my second one in less than a week) and a bunch of smaller races (5K’s, 10Ks, 10 miles). I live in fear of gaining the weight back!!! So far have been at this weight for 2.5 years. I think setting goals is the way I keep on track. You can do this!!! I am honestly thinking of subscribing just for the privilege of cheering you on! Big thumbs up from the great state of Texas USA!!

    Thanks Brad. I was feeling pretty deflated myself after running CTM and not making my goal in Oct. I lost my mom in May 2021. I also felt I let her down as she was my biggest supporter. It's been really hard getting back on the road. My ultimate goal was Comrades but sometimes I think I'm not good enough even though I trained hard and like I thought I should have. This is a good encouragement video for me to get started again and to build up my self-esteem again.

    Brad. You inspired me to run Comrades in 2015. The Coach Parry podcast got me through some very dark times of doubt and imposter syndrome in the lead up and I credit it with getting me to the start line. Thank you for sharing your story. Just signed up for a comeback marathon in 2022, too, so will be following along from Down Under. Good luck and thanks for continuing to be an inspiration. 🙌

    Thank you so much for sharing this Brad. I haven’t really run at all since Comrades 2019. As a consequence I have gained over 2 stone and when I tried a parkrun recently it felt terrible, and took more than 10mins longer than it used to. Your video was so inspiring and really made me feel I am not alone - and neither are you! I hope your eye appt goes well so you can make inroads into your plan and get those blocks turning green. Wishing you good health and every success with your marathon in 10 months. Thanks again for sharing your journey.

    Thanks for opening up Brad. I'll definitely be keeping tabs on how you progress in the next few months. I'm not on the comeback trail, but will need to do so at a later stage as I've just had a recurrence of a PTTD whilst doing base training last month. I really hope I don't take too long to recover. I aim to do my first Comrades this year, and it's a real bummer that I'm having to put aside my running shoes for now :-(.
    All the best, Brad. And thanks a lot to you and coach Parry for the videos.

    Thanks to you Brad. You are an inspiration to many of us. I turn 70 this year and seem to constantly battle injuries at this age. It has always been my goal to run until I turn 80 or later. But to accomplish that, I will need to adjust my diet and do much more cross training and strength training. I have been avoiding those things. I will watch your journey closely because it is always easier for me to meet my own training challenges when others are facing equally big or greater challenges. I am confident that you can accomplish what you are setting out to do. Good luck and just take it in small steps.

    Proud of you. Hard always to start again. But what about me: I kept training, although it wasn’t possible to train properly in this lockdown state, and I’m now heavier than before I began. 165 lbs as of this afternoon.
    Struggled through injuries and severe endometriosis and asthma and the troubles those carry with them. Not giving up, but not very hopeful at this time. Lost strength and endurance though I’m finally off of my hormone therapy. Thank Jesus for that!

    • @Kelly_Ben
      @Kelly_Ben 2 роки тому

      Wow... the endometriosis alone is enough to derail anyone!! The fact you've kept training at all says a lot about your mental strength. It won't take long for your physical strength to catch up! One thing that helped my asthma and injuries... slow down. Don't compare yourself to anyone else, just log some nice slow easy miles and before you know it you'll be ready for more. Best wishes!

    Wow. Thanks Brad for sharing your story, it is touching. Actually, I've been through some kind of similar stuff recently. I was running happily, after some issues with my back, which prevented running for a couple of years. So, I didn't have any specific goal, just enjoying running, swimming and cycling. Then in 2020, I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. I went through several operations and severe complications. Therefore, I decided to do charity running for cancer research, and registered in NUTS trail run in May 2021. Unfortunately, I had to go to an operation just before the run, and I had to postpone my registration to the following year. (I did run, just before the last operation, 55k trail run with a couple of mates locally, though, and raised a small amount of money to charity) Now you guys are helping me to run the real NUTS this year.
    As you are encouraging me to go forward and do the planned exercises, one by one, I want to boost and encourage you to do the same. We can do it, we are all doing it together. Go Brad, go!

    This film so touched a nerve - I had a double lens replacement at the start of Dec and also see the surgeon on the 13th when I am hoping they will say I can get back to some running and light strength work. I struggle with fatigue and recovery but in a moment of madness, I have entered a race series starting with a 10k and building to a marathon in August with the final element a 1/2 marathon over 2 munro's ( hills over 3000ft) in Sept. I am excited and bricking it in equal measure as I do not underestimate the work required and I have put my faith totally in the coach parry team to help me get there. Looking forward to following your journey and you will be inspiring me and I am sure many others, to stick at it to the end. Good luck.

      Thank you for sharing that Jenifer. My Mom always used to say you eat an elephant one bite at a time that is exactly the way we're going to do this, one training session at a time.

    Thank you for sharing Brad, your a fighter. Your story reminds me its about the journey rather then the destination. Its inspiring really how you kept moving forward no matter what (through those hard/sad times 🙏), what seem dead end only lead to more opertunties and kept your head up. What insteresting back story of how this running channel started 😊. I was woundering where Brad went 😅. But like the Running Channel that show case the emotions and determination that it takes to be ready for a main event or rise from injury or starting fresh. Its really up lifting and motivating. Im 2 years new into running since start of C19 and have learnet some much from Coach Parry channel. I hope one day to join an actual race event, and get that crowd feeling everyone talks about. Good luck YOU GOT THIS. Look forward up coming content to come 😁 Letz GO 💪

      @Reili87 thank you so much for the encouragement. We so often forget that life isn't a straight line and it's important to share the good and the bad. There is a lot to learn out of both.

    My 10cents; Start slowly! That strong mind and willpower can work against you in the early stages of your training and cause injury when your brain remember what you are capable of, but the body is still in need of some adaptations. Enjoy the journey to your next marathon!

    Thank you for sharing Brad. If you are like me, Running Brad is going to get pretty angry at Do Nothing Brad at times in your training despite valid excuses. All that matters is one green block at a time. Eventually Running Brad will become less angry at Do Nothing Brad and Do Nothing Brad will morph into Recovery/Resting Brad. I wish you all the best Brad and congratulate you and CP on a great channel which has helped me immensely.

    Hi Brad, Many Years ago I ran a few times with CP, he was then based at Tuks. I was not fit enough to ran with these guys and I then joined the Tri club at Tuks.(age 46) Needless to say, I was coming out of a power lift scenario then. I trained with them and have managed to 6 half and 9 Full IM to date. Well, a knee injury came along and I have not been training for 6 years now. Well, I (age 61)am on the comeback trail as well, diets are ok, training loads of strength work with running as well, and I am going for an age group win. Keep in touch and post progress. Stay safe and enjoy the journey.

    Best video in this series, bar none. Thanks for the candour Brad, and a great reminder that we all come at this from different places in life.
    Best of luck with the journey back.
    Any chance to ride stationary bikes / smart trainers with your eye? Not the most fun perhaps but in Canada we put loads of miles on that way in the winter.
    All the best!

    Good luck! I'm not sure that my journey is similar. I'm overweight but I have no desire to run a marathon either. I like having more regular 5k, 10k and half marathon races on the calendar to work towards rather than one big goal. I'd put off a goal in 10 months too long and lose my motivation. I have a five miler on the schedule next week though.

    Hi Brad (it’s Jen from Coach parry) what does it mean you had to run the down of comrades after you ran the up .

    • @smarterniche
      @smarterniche 2 роки тому

      Hey Jen, thanks for watching. Comrades is run between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg every year. The direction alternates each year. The up run starts in Durban, while the down run finishes in Durban. Although it is the same stretch of road, the races are very different and each pose their own unique challenges. The standing joke here is you’re not a ‘real’ Comrades runner unless you’ve done both.

      Wowow ! That’s fascinating ! Is there a comeback video two yet? I am so inspired to one day do a marathon from your video !
