    • @FlyEaglesFly19111

NO. Not with the current platform of GM motors. They have too many defective parts. The outsourcing tp these providers has been less than lackluster. From the Equinox/Terrain motor issues, To the Silverado with lifter issues and torque converter issues. If they use older platform motors and just use the stop start.. maybe..but not likely.

@@FlyEaglesFly19111 I would agree they took the most reliable v6 out of the equation i have the older 2003 astro 4.3 v6 but the lu3 4.3 is just an ls with the 2 cylinders chopped off like the old version of the sbc iron block. imagine if they turbo charged it would be a beast of an engine.

The astro van was always a "mid sized" van sharing alot from the s-10 platform. The larger vans using the parts from the full Silverado trucks were the G-series vans, then renamed to express vans. So in that rendering using the new Silverado front end that would more likely be a new express van. A new Astro van would most likely adapt the Colorado front end as it would share it's platform.

My 1994 Chevy Astro LT EXT AWD was one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. As a hockey dad bringing my son and usually a host of other kids with their hockey gear who's parents couldn't pick them up in time for practice (or too lazy to get up so early on a Saturday morning) the Astro was a phenomenal machine. It had a true truck suspension and 4x4 drive train that would outperform any of the other 4x4's that other families drove around. It was bigger and higher than the traditional minivan, and was a dream to drive with a ton of power. It was amazing what this thing would easily tow behind it. After a lot of solid years, it unfortunately rotted away due to rust from salt on the winter roads. I kick myself for not getting it rust proofed every fall. I would love it if GM brought it back with similar dimensions and features. But alas it will not happen and I just have to be happy with my other all time favourite vehicle, my 2000 Isuzu Trooper 4x4. But it is now passing 300,000 miles and is at the point the rust will take over. No idea what I will buy next.

That would be a sick design! I grew up seeing the bands of the 70s still around in the 80s so I guess I am partial but I've owned a Chevy van conversion and I absolutely adored that thing. I would love to see a new Chevy van they really do make the best full-size vans

I drove 2 Astros and 1 Safari for 21 years. I loved them. We just bought a 2022 Traverse because that was the closest thing I could find with the cargo room. I have had it for a week and absolutely love it BUT I would by a new Astro for sure. We loved it for road trips from the Atlantic Ocean up the coast and to the Pacific Ocean then down the Coast and hauled everything we needed and pulled a pop up camper. It was by far my favorite vehicle and I'm 59!!

The new one looks great. I have owned them for over twenty years and was sad to see them discontinued. What I would like to know is what the new will have under the hood. Will it have the 4L60e ? and the 4.3 L engine? Will it be as reliable as the classic one? Hope it wont be too techy due to repairs when the time comes around. Thanks for the video.

I remember back in the 70s, 1,001 Truck and Van Ideas, a magazine dedicated to van conversions, Ford Econoline and Chevy vans were kind of the kings of the hill. This concept could easily be a van life or prepper van in a 4X4 option, especially if it can tow a heavy trailer.

I can dig it. Id buy one. Ive had a couple over the years. Loved them. Ive been saying for years to bring back the astro to anyone unfortunate enough to talk vans with me.

Diesels will pretty soon die.. but i reckon with a powerful electric motor +a big graphen battery pack and a spacious modular interior of 6 individual seats each row with lumbar massage heated and cooled, it would be actually a pretty cool business class vehicle specially with new tech flat screens in it.. So yes that would be my option.. ;0)

Absolutely! I’m still driving my 2004 Astro waiting for a replacement product. It’s the only van that had the following:
Extende virtual clearance ncr for storing display panels on edge
Extended storage length because no console between seats to run lumber through
    Roof rack for more storage
AWD for more effective boat launching/trailering with enough tow capacity
Removable seats for maximum interior storage
KIA almost matched my criteria but I could not configure a roof rack without fancy non- removable seats!!! So close.
Come on Chevy!! I can’t keep my 2004 going for much longer!!! Maximum storage and/ or people too!!!

AWD is nice till you need a new tire and the rest still have 75-50% tread left. You will buy 4 new ones that match...or rebuild your transfer case guts, those are the options. Or #3 - find a race shop that will cut down a new tire to match.

If we’re going on sheer looks, then yeah the picture I saw was pretty sweet. With that being said other features would have to come into play. Like what motor options, 5.3L or 6.2L? What rear end, what kind of fuel mileage does it get? All that would come into play when making my decision on whether or not to buy. It does look pretty sweet though.

As long as it had a decently powerful engine, then I could see myself considering it a viable choice... HOWEVER, if they offered an adventure off-road 4x4 option with really good approach and departure angles, good ground clearance, a wheelbase around 104 to 111 inches, locking front and rear differentials, and base to premium bells and whistles packages so that you could have cheaper off-road vehicle with stages of increasing cost as more premium gadgets and interior options are added, THEN I would DEFINITELY be a serious buyer.

Engine options should be 5.3, 6.0, or 6.2 and size wise it should be between the old Astro and the full size van... closer to full size. Approach and departure angles around the same as the Hummer H2 would be optimal as well.

We bought a Chevy Astro in 85 when we had our second child. We had it for 17 years! It was a perfect car for a family- cub scout troops, school field trips, camping -all those things. The original engine was a lemon, though, and had to be replaced before 100k miles. We replaced it with a rebuilt engine which never gave us trouble. One of my coworkers bought one and had it customized into a little mobile home by popping out the sides a bit and raising the roof. Roomy but still easy to drive and park. I'm ready for small camping van. The new expensive, unavailable VW camper is the only one that appeals to me.
