I remember being a teen in the mid seventies- I would have killed for one of these guitars - I believe that we are living through a golden age of cheap guitars - I own so many Firefly guitars now that I'm old ( It's not even funny ) -I'm just a bedroom guitar player who sadly does not practice guitar playing much and it shows - These guitars are so cheap in price that I would never expect quality hardware nor woods nor anything - What I love about guitars nowadays is the rounded frets - no more having to do fret filing on a 7 to 900$ instrument - my wife just bought me a Leo Jaimz Tempest and I was blown away at how good that guitar is. Great review - love the channel !!!
Thanks sir for checking out the video - yeah, we absolutely live in the golden age of fantastic quality budget guitars. There is no way we would have got this level of guitar for the money back in the early 80’s. It’s a great time for kids setting out on their guitar journey being able to pick up instruments like this - and us older folks looking for a great guitar!
The Classic Series wide range humbuckers that Fender used to put in the MIM Deluxe and custom were wooly like that. I reckon a set of Creamery ones or similar would make that guitar come alive.
The same issue popped up on the early squire paranormal p90 strats very recently dunsy. Dolphins bridges on fenders. Now nobody is absolutely sure if it's the parts manufacturers issue of fender and epi (and now firefly) are produced in the same factory.
Just noticed that you got the Explorer shape - those look sweet. I thought about one of those but figured as I was bringing the guitar back to the UK in my luggage I'd be better getting one where I could remove the neck! Super quality guitars for the price.
Hi Dunsy, alright matey sounds great over here, I'm sold. The first time you played it in the states by the pool it sounded a wee different but now, what amplifier are you running it through?, that's the question? Epiphone yea? Guitars are at their height of who can put out the best cheap one and sell the most. I thought Squier was on top. Good stuff Dunsy my friend.
Hope you're well, Sir. I used a few different amps on this video - all in the Kemper. Fender/Vox and Marshall. Tried to get as many sounds as possible. Lovely playing guitar with fantastic specs. As I say in the video the only thing that let's it down a little for me in the pickups. But that's no big deal these days are there are so many great aftermarket pickups for great prices. Gonna try a couple and A/B them with the stock ones.
I got a set of Guitar Madness wide-range pickups to put in mine. Not really sure if that’s going to sound any different. What did you end up putting in yours?
I forgot to say I bought an Epiphone Studio for $250 brand new and I thought the same about it but the pickups were pretty tinnie sounding so I gave it to my son for Christmas. Peace 🕊️.
Absolutely 100%. It’s a great playing instrument with good specs. When I eq’d the pickups in the final tune, they sounded better to me. But, for me, I think investing in something with a bit more mid and high end would be preferable. No biggie these days with the variety of aftermarket pickups available. Looks braw too!
If you're going to replace the pickups check out a friend of mine called Mr Fabulous Guitars in Victoria, Australia. He hand winds them. They're quite cheap too... i can see what you mean by their sound....
I was watching the demo and thinking “that’s nice but the pickups are a bit dull”. Glad I wasn’t just being a bit fussy about sound 😂. What replacements you thinking about ?
Not 100% sure, tbh. I have a few pickups not doing anything at the moment - I think, off the top of my head, a Tonerider Rocksong, Bare Knuckle The Mule and some vintage double cream Gotoh’s. Spoiled for choice!
I can't say for sure if it's Epiphone hardware. I suspect that whichever Chinese metal factories make Epiphone hardware make more than Epiphone require. "Spares" are then available. Grinding off the name is then an honourable thing for them to do before selling to anyone else! I also suspect that ALL the far east manufacturers procure hardware in batches from a number of suppliers and place orders based on price and delivery time.
I think you’re pretty much correct here - and I guess it’s great for the buyer if you know that you’re getting decent hardware with the guitar. Must be a pain to be grinding off all those names though!
I have that same guitar! Nice Rough Cutt shirt! Haven’t thought about them in years🤘🏼🩸🖤

I do quite fancy the Creamary pickups - my friend got Jamie to make from for his Jazzmaster a while back. Sound great.
Dunsy,
It looks great mate .🤘
I'm well pleased with it, DL. Sweet guitar.

Spellchecker. Dolphin = epiphone , lol.
Yeah, I guess it's either all in the one factory or there's an overabundance of hardware and everyone is sharing!
Just got 1st firefly
Pretty impressive stuff!

You're a good man!
New set of humbuckers and personalise it some more with your own choice of knobs - job’s a good ‘un! 🎸👍
New knobs ordered and currently trying to decide what pickups to install - should be rocking soon 🤘
That's a nice looking, and sounding, guitar! 👍🏻👍🏻 They have to cut corners somewhere, to get down to a price.

I don't dislike the pickups but agree they sound a bit bassy not enough of
a twang single coil and Humbucker together maybe.HB split

Yeah, they just seem to be lacking some life. But a very nice playing guitar.
