So, why do you pitch up so far to fire an AMRAAM asif it was a sparrow? Im still getting used to DCS so some proceedures like that go over my head.
I assume it's so the missle doesnt have to waste fuel turning up, but sometimes the ammount you turned looked like you dumped all your speed. Is this the typical thing to do or simply the protocal for your MILSIM?
You can arc them to get more range. There are advantages and drawbacks but since the missile is descending it's maintaining more speed which helps with maneuvering and it's harder to terrain mask. But you're right in that you want to be careful not to pull too aggressively so you don't bleed too much speed, especially in the hornet where you're already slow in fighter terms. I'd play around with it and try it! Anywhere from 15-30 degrees depending on distance and altitude of the target
If you pitch up 25-30° on shots the missile will accelerate straight forward, someone did the calculations awhile back but I believe it adds like 12% more range and the PK will be significantly higher because the amraam will be going terminal over Mach 2. It’s highly effective.
