Guys can we please instead of hating be civil on the comments, reminder this is all my opinion and we all have different musical tastes Also, I'm sorry for saying that Shiho and Ichika sung in different keys, I thought keys and octaves were the same thing so yeah thats a mistake on my part😭 Also I'm sorry if I sound like I'm hating some of the seiyuus in this video, I actually really like all the seiyuu's voices, even emus, I didnt intend to make it sound like I dislike the seiyuus, the only problem is how colorpal makes the seiyuus sing, like emu can't sing in a lower voice much and honestly, i'd love if they made her sing lower since some of the songs where we do see her singing lower (i.e Telecaster B Boy) are really good. This problem is noticable with Kohane or Minori's voices too since they can't sing in a normal tone and they have to sing in a cute higher voice. Also sometimes colorpal makes the seiyuus sing songs that they can't sing. So yeah I really dont wanna sound as if I'm dissing the seiyuus when they all did great job in the game and I really respect them all. I'm sorry if i caused any confusion english isn't my first language.
Just a general q, did you just not like Shihos vocal in the lost ones weeping character? If so, I understand, but I just adore Shihos powerful voice and was a little confused
@@vthorn195 I think it's generally agreed that her voice is fantastic in that cover, it's just that they had Ichika sing in a different octave and while I get what they're trying it didn't work as well as it should.
i honestly adore emu's singing (her vocals were actually the whole reason i started to play pjsekai), but they really do need to like... at least adjust her volume better when she's singing alongside the rest of the band, imo. she overpowers them a lot-- especially rui and nene. mainly nene. i also wish they would do better with the vocaloids in general. they always fail to make them sound like they did in the og song and when they TRY to, they fail miserably. it's always such a mess overall. not to mention their line distribution issues... dear god!!!!!!

i agree on how Emu screams so much in the songs, we hardly hear Tsukasa which is a shame because he is the leader and his vocals can be incredible, everyone's voice in wxs is overshadowed by Emu.

I gotta say, one thing that kills covers for me is tuning on vocaloids. Ghost Rule is terrible solely because of Miku, and i cannot listen to that cheese grater of a song because Miku's unbearable. Sadly, most Miku tuning in MMJ and Leo/need is just done so dirty imo, which sucks because I love those groups so dearly
True, I was honestly really close to putting ghost rule on there but I just couldn't get myself to because of how much I like Ichika's vocals in that song.
Its always so jarring when you hear the original song with the original vocals that are great, then switch to the covers where the vocaloid has been tuned so terribly and lifelessly. I don't know if it's true or not but my theory is that it's mitchie m doing the retuning since he was promoting the game heavily and the vocaloids sound like his tuning style. I could be wrong but if that's true he did a bad job
0:41 they’re singing in different octaves (ichika is singing the same notes as shiho, just higher), but they’re in the same key so it still sounds good to me

honestly both the separate covers of king slap but the way they mixed their voices in the default cover just sounds??? wrong??? those covers both have their strong places and their weak places and when mixed, somehow, the mixer(s) managed to only put the weak places in. it's genuinely difficult to listen to after you listen to both the separate covers
I disagree tbh. That song seems more like social anxiety or smth and Kanade is just very work-absorbed but chill. I love emu’s singing, i just find her fun and energetic. I do feel like she fits in some songs like dance robot dance but in some others she isn’t as needed / doesn’t need to be as loud. ALSO the tuning on the vocaloid s can either be AMAZING or absolutely awful (i took like 5 minutes trying to spell awful)

a way i would describe the problem with wandashow covers would either be its either emu fighting with tsukasa over who gets to be heard, emu overpowering everyone, or victim of horrible line distribution. i really like emu's voice but sometimes it feels like they barely try to make her voice match with the others, just have her sing way higher than the other and it stands out in a bad way. sometimes it works like with chuururira, where the emunene duet wasnt just emu's high voice over nene, and sometimes its dance robot dance

I think Nene's voice is often blended in with Emu in WxS songs so we're just hearing an ear-grating amalgamation of both of their voices most of the time (not just Emu's 😭)

I think Otome Kaibou sounding awkward is kinda due to Mizuki. Mizuki often lacks vibrato and doesn't do mellow songs well which is like 75% of Nightcord songs. However, their power is good, but for me power alone isn't enough.
I agree, Mizuki's voice is one of my favs in the game but they do better in more powerful songs (ex. Villain, Venom, or one of their comm songs like Lower Ones Eye's)
I really love her too, She’s my fave character but gosh they really need to adjust her voice volume! She can still sound energetic and childish without being loud, so the problem is not her as a character but her vocals
I have to disagree with wxs cover of okinimesumama, I loved it more than the original version with eve singing, I thought emu and nene's high voices complimented tsukasa and rui's voices well, it was like a choir kind of, with sopranos and tenors, it felt like they harmonized, with different octaves, and I've never thought that it could actually be sung well than high yet to me they pulled it really off, it's by far one of my favourite covers in the game, and emu was definitely a hard carry as to why

I agree almost 100% with this video except for Positive Dance Time, Dance Robot Dance, and Alien solely because those songs already have VERY high-pitched tuning to begin with so Emu’s high-pitched voice fits perfectly. The only nitpick I have with those is the audio mixing, Nene’s voice is covered up by Emu’s most of the time

Well they are, but the original covers don't shatter windows, they both hit the good balance between high pitched but not so high pitched that it sounds like a bunch of mosquitoes became singers

I normally hate high pitched cutesy singers, however Emu has stolen my heart and hearing a “WONDERHOY” in a song makes me happy. Despite that, WHY DOES SHE FUCKING SHOUT SO GODDAMN MUCH?!?! They need to mix or turn her volume down slightly or smth because damn she was covering up everyone’s vocals so damn much in several of the songs.
I don't think the problem is about "not liking" her voice. I personally love her voice but when listening to some of the covers in the video, they just tuned her voice badly😭 She has potential and it's great to have a high-pitched voice among lower ones (like a choir of sort) but they need to learn how to properly manage them because one can drown the other and you end up hearing only one range and not the other I don't listen to pjsk covers since I'm a die-hard og fan (that was basically my first time listening to them), and like?? I’m never gonna think it’s not weird when there are four characters singing a rin/Len song, where two of the characters are Rin and Len, and the others are two characters of the same gender. It just feels…imbalanced…I personally think that it should’ve been Akito singing Bring it On instead of An, just because of Akito’s energy.
I think the Yume Yume Jump version of Happy Synthesizer sounds a lot better with Kanade's soft voice mixing well with An's powerful voice, Shiho's voice surprisingly suits songs like this and Shizuku's sounding better than in the normal MMJ Cover. Hello/How are You is a victim of being an early game cover, if made nowadays I think it would sound better. Otome Kaibou is just oof, first why didn't Ena get it when it fits her so much, secondly Mafuyu's voice just isn't made for the higher notes so they had to resort to using Miku for a lot of them, and Mizuki's powerful voice, which normally makes Niigo songs feel cohesive, ironically makes this cover even more disjointed. If it was a MizuEna or even a MafuEna cover I feel like it would sound better since Minori Suzuki (Ena's VA) can hit all those high notes they had to give to Miku. King is just mixed so badly like wtf were they doing. On all of the songs where the main complaint is Emu's voice, I agree because holy shit is her high pitched voice so powerful and it gets annoying because you literally don't hear anyone else, plus Rui's Okinimesumama alt vocal is so much better because ngl that song just sounds a lot better when sung by one person. Love Ka is one of the worst covers in the entire game, what were they even trying to do with it? Emu sounds horrible, Meiko sounds horrible, the others barely do anything in it, and it took a good song and make it dogshit. Bring It On is redeemed by the Album version, the game size version is a victim of being an early game cover like Hello/How are You.
One thing I will say is that I feel like Shiho could’ve sung higher in Lost Ones Weeping. If I remember correctly, Shiho’s cover of From Tokyo had her singing a good amount higher than she normally does. I’m not exactly sure how it would sound with Lost Ones Weeping since it has a completely different tone but it might have been a little better \_(‘~’)_/
I feel like the were trying to harmonize Shiho and Ichika’s vocals, but it just went HORRIBLY wrong. I’m pretty sure they didn’t make Shiho also sing the higher notes so her VA’s voice doesn’t get strained and Shiho just generally has a lower voice so it wouldn’t be in character.
All of these I agree with, I also feel like that they really need more people to tune the vocaloids; at least as of lately. Alien Alien for example, Miku sounds smooth there, yes. But what I miss is more quirky tuning, it’s what’s special about Vocaloid, y’know? Although, at the time around the Alien Alien cover came out, I heard that some of the tuners got laid off. Hopefully they hire more people in the future.

the KING cover... i bought the song when i first started playing pjsk and i was like "nuh uh.... what is this?...", then i bought Love Ka which is the same case. i was in tears, i thought the game had such bad vocals until i listened to leo/need and n25. 😭
Honestly it could have been a good VBS cover but, I prefer ruikasa because it’s probably one of the only songs that doesn’t give me a migraine when I listen to it on repeat trying to full combo master.
My biggest complaint about the covers is the tuning. Meiko sounded like she was forcing herself to sing. And when they make the girls sing the cover in a different key than the original- it just urks me omg 😭
I love Emu and her seiyuu is very talented, but I gotta admit I have used my WxS cover cards specifically to get versions where Emu is excluded 😅. It’s not about her singing being bad (because it isnt), but often times the covers have just no idea how to mix her with other singers.
Listening to it again, I’m pretty sure they wanted to make Miku sound robotic on purpose (bc dance robot dance). But I’m not too sure what Miku voicebank they used but it feels like the robot-like feeling they were going for.. it just sounds half-assed. That’s probably why it’s sounds so goddamn horrible 😭
I never really listen to the full unit Vampire and Kimagure Mercy but I can say that Airi's alt vocals of them go hard tbh. (Well, last chorus or whatever of Kimagure Mercy she sounds oddly quiet compared to the music actually, but still nice.)
MMJ enjoyer, so i won't say anything about other groups Happy Synthesizer was a solid cover. The song itself was limiting, since it's mainly chorus and SEGA wanted to do it as a unison. Happy Halloween sounds really good. If only MMJ VA's could sing this a bit lower. Vampire is a reverse of Happy Halloween. It sounds awful, there are parts where Minori is forced to be Miku for some reason, and oh god do i hate the song itself. Only redeeming quality is Shizuku, as always. Or she would be if she wasn't muted in like half of the paired verses... Kimagure Mercy has waaaay to little Haruka lines in my tastes. Does anyone hear Shizuku on the last part? The only dissapointing things in Deep Sea Girl are miku tuning and the last part where they sing together. The last part, or at least some of it, should've been done in pairs or trios. Airi & Minori still did really well. The one I think is underwhelming at least is Darling Dance. I have no idea why they did Minori Haruka instead od Airi Haruka. Miku is tuned ok for her job, since she's actually supportng the VA's, and that's rare. On a sidenote, how can SEGA tune Luka perfectly in Color of Drops and then just never do it again? Except Parasol Cider which is excellent in every way. They do love butchering vocaloids...

Love Ka has a very Carnival feeling sound. Well specifically a screwed up carnival but I think it fits WxS. Imo, if they pulled a Goodbye Sengen and just... not had a Vocaloid then they could both make the line distribution better n save us from Meiko's horrid n half-assed tuning

Actually really interesting to see someone dislike the Vampire cover! I play almost exclusively with the original Vocaloid versions of songs when I can but Vampire is one of the few exceptions! I personally love the way everyone sounds together in it!

Time machine: I guess I feel like there's a gap between the instrumental and the voice? Probably because it's not mixed so well and the instrumental is a bit more prominent than the voice but that might just be my opinion... I also don't like how they sound singing together the way they do it doesn't feel like it's in unison... this is the same issue with a lot of early pjsk songs too Happy halloween: I feel like it's another issue where it doesn't feel like theyre complimenting each other's voices that well? Controversial Opinion: but i actually really like the 'Love ka?' cover! I'm not a seiyuu stan so i dont care if the boys dont have lines plus they so sing in the chorus together with the girls, they lend their voices to the song as a whole and it all comes together well. I also really like Meiko's tuning here cause at the very least she has character and it fits well with everyone else; far from her usual tuning where she sounds like a dying robot being plugged in with everyone else (this coming from a Meiko stan).
Real. I love Love Ka. Who cares about line distribution when. It sounds good? And Emu's voice is hardly loud in that cover, she sounds haunting which is good. It also fits Emu very well. There's a reason the JP server loves it and it's because Emu and Tsukasa is the most popular ship in the JP fandom due to how implied it is in the story. That, and it really fits WxS's theater vibe. Meiko doesn't even sound bad. And the choreography is so clean! The hate on Love Ka just feels like a pineapple on pizza argument. People hate it because other people hate it.
I see a ton of people talking about how they think emu’s voice is too overpowering but I’ll be honest I absolutely adore how high her voice becomes in the group songs. It makes for really good contrast compared to the deeper voices to where it sounds like the song has a bass to it if that makes sense. Also I'm sorry if I sound like I'm hating some of the seiyuus in this video, I actually really like all the seiyuu's voices, even emus, I didnt intend to make it sound like I dislike the seiyuus, the only problem is how colorpal makes the seiyuus sing, like emu can't sing in a lower voice much and honestly, i'd love if they made her sing lower since some of the songs where we do see her singing lower (i.e Telecaster B Boy) are really good. This problem is noticable with Kohane or Minori's voices too since they can't sing in a normal tone and they have to sing in a cute higher voice. Also sometimes colorpal makes the seiyuus sing songs that they can't sing. So yeah I really dont wanna sound as if I'm dissing the seiyuus when they all did great job in the game and I really respect them all. i honestly adore emu's singing (her vocals were actually the whole reason i started to play pjsekai), but they really do need to like... at least adjust her volume better when she's singing alongside the rest of the band, imo. she overpowers them a lot-- especially rui and nene. mainly nene.
i also wish they would do better with the vocaloids in general. they always fail to make them sound like they did in the og song and when they TRY to, they fail miserably. it's always such a mess overall. not to mention their line distribution issues... dear god!!!!!!

I gotta say, one thing that kills covers for me is tuning on vocaloids. Ghost Rule is terrible solely because of Miku, and i cannot listen to that cheese grater of a song because Miku's unbearable. Sadly, most Miku tuning in MMJ and Leo/need is just done so dirty imo, which sucks because I love those groups so dearly

Its always so jarring when you hear the original song with the original vocals that are great, then switch to the covers where the vocaloid has been tuned so terribly and lifelessly. I don't know if it's true or not but my theory is that it's mitchie m doing the retuning since he was promoting the game heavily and the vocaloids sound like his tuning style. I could be wrong but if that's true he did a bad job
And don’t get started on the others, especially Kaito Meiko and Luka. They sound AWFUL

I love emu’s singing, i just find her fun and energetic. I do feel like she fits in some songs like dance robot dance but in some others she isn’t as needed / doesn’t need to be as loud. ALSO the tuning on the vocaloid s can either be AMAZING or absolutely awful (i took like 5 minutes trying to spell awful)

a way i would describe the problem with wandashow covers would either be its either emu fighting with tsukasa over who gets to be heard, emu overpowering everyone, or victim of horrible line distribution. i really like emu's voice but sometimes it feels like they barely try to make her voice match with the others, just have her sing way higher than the other and it stands out in a bad way. sometimes it works like with chuururira, where the emunene duet wasnt just emu's high voice over nene, and sometimes its dance robot dance

I think Otome Kaibou sounding awkward is kinda due to Mizuki. Mizuki often lacks vibrato and doesn't do mellow songs well which is like 75% of Nightcord songs. However, their power is good, but for me power alone isn't enough.
I think it's both. Otome Kaibou's tone differs throughout the song, so without that it sounds flat.

I have to disagree with wxs cover of okinimesumama, I loved it more than the original version with eve singing, I thought emu and nene's high voices complimented tsukasa and rui's voices well, it was like a choir kind of, with sopranos and tenors, it felt like they harmonized, with different octaves, and I've never thought that it could actually be sung well than high yet to me they pulled it really off, it's by far one of my favourite covers in the game, and emu was definitely a hard carry as to why

I think the Yume Yume Jump version of Happy Synthesizer sounds a lot better with Kanade's soft voice mixing well with An's powerful voice, Shiho's voice surprisingly suits songs like this and Shizuku's sounding better than in the normal MMJ Cover.
Hello/How are You is a victim of being an early game cover, if made nowadays I think it would sound better.
Otome Kaibou is just oof, first why didn't Ena get it when it fits her so much, secondly Mafuyu's voice just isn't made for the higher notes so they had to resort to using Miku for a lot of them, and Mizuki's powerful voice, which normally makes Niigo songs feel cohesive, ironically makes this cover even more disjointed. If it was a MizuEna or even a MafuEna cover I feel like it would sound better since Minori Suzuki (Ena's VA) can hit all those high notes they had to give to Miku.
King is just mixed so badly like wtf were they doing.
On all of the songs where the main complaint is Emu's voice, I agree because holy shit is her high pitched voice so powerful and it gets annoying because you literally don't hear anyone else, plus Rui's Okinimesumama alt vocal is so much better because ngl that song just sounds a lot better when sung by one person.
Love Ka is one of the worst covers in the entire game, what were they even trying to do with it? Emu sounds horrible, Meiko sounds horrible, the others barely do anything in it, and it took a good song and make it dogshit.
Bring It On is redeemed by the Album version, the game size version is a victim of being an early game cover like Hello/How are You.
One thing I will say is that I feel like Shiho could’ve sung higher in Lost Ones Weeping. If I remember correctly, Shiho’s cover of From Tokyo had her singing a good amount higher than she normally does. I’m not exactly sure how it would sound with Lost Ones Weeping since it has a completely different tone but it might have been a little better \_(‘~’)_/
I feel like the were trying to harmonize Shiho and Ichika’s vocals, but it just went HORRIBLY wrong. I’m pretty sure they didn’t make Shiho also sing the higher notes so her VA’s voice doesn’t get strained and Shiho just generally has a lower voice so it wouldn’t be in character.

All of these I agree with, I also feel like that they really need more people to tune the vocaloids; at least as of lately. Alien Alien for example, Miku sounds smooth there, yes. But what I miss is more quirky tuning, it’s what’s special about Vocaloid, y’know? Although, at the time around the Alien Alien cover came out, I heard that some of the tuners got laid off. Hopefully they hire more people in the future.

I love Emu and her seiyuu is very talented, but I gotta admit I have used my WxS cover cards specifically to get versions where Emu is excluded 😅. It’s not about her singing being bad (because it isnt), but often times the covers have just no idea how to mix her with other singers.

Listening to it again, I’m pretty sure they wanted to make Miku sound robotic on purpose (bc dance robot dance). But I’m not too sure what Miku voicebank they used but it feels like the robot-like feeling they were going for.. it just sounds half-assed. That’s probably why it’s sounds so goddamn horrible 😭

I never really listen to the full unit Vampire and Kimagure Mercy but I can say that Airi's alt vocals of them go hard tbh. (Well, last chorus or whatever of Kimagure Mercy she sounds oddly quiet compared to the music actually, but still nice.)
I think Airi's the most suited for vocaloid songs out of everyone in the game. Her vocal colour suits them really well.

Happy Synthesizer was a solid cover. The song itself was limiting, since it's mainly chorus and SEGA wanted to do it as a unison.
Happy Halloween sounds really good. If only MMJ VA's could sing this a bit lower.
Vampire is a reverse of Happy Halloween. It sounds awful, there are parts where Minori is forced to be Miku for some reason, and oh god do i hate the song itself. Only redeeming quality is Shizuku, as always. Or she would be if she wasn't muted in like half of the paired verses...
Kimagure Mercy has waaaay to little Haruka lines in my tastes. Does anyone hear Shizuku on the last part?
The only dissapointing things in Deep Sea Girl are miku tuning and the last part where they sing together. The last part, or at least some of it, should've been done in pairs or trios. Airi & Minori still did really well.
The one I think is underwhelming at least is Darling Dance. I have no idea why they did Minori Haruka instead od Airi Haruka. Miku is tuned ok for her job, since she's actually supportng the VA's, and that's rare.
On a sidenote, how can SEGA tune Luka perfectly in Color of Drops and then just never do it again? Except Parasol Cider which is excellent in every way. They do love butchering vocaloids...

Love Ka has a very Carnival feeling sound. Well specifically a screwed up carnival but I think it fits WxS. Imo, if they pulled a Goodbye Sengen and just... not had a Vocaloid then they could both make the line distribution better n save us from Meiko's horrid n half-assed tuning

Actually really interesting to see someone dislike the Vampire cover! I play almost exclusively with the original Vocaloid versions of songs when I can but Vampire is one of the few exceptions! I personally love the way everyone sounds together in it!

I have niow learned a bit of basic music theory and taking a music comp class so here are some. Revised opinions i guess?
Time machine: I guess I feel like there's a gap between the instrumental and the voice? Probably because it's not mixed so well and the instrumental is a bit more prominent than the voice but that might just be my opinion... I also don't like how they sound singing together the way they do it doesn't feel like it's in unison... this is the same issue with a lot of early pjsk songs too
Happy halloween: I feel like it's another issue where it doesn't feel like theyre complimenting each other's voices that well? It feels janky in some parts
Kimagure mercy: i havge something personal against this sorry that's mostly it. Doesn't feel like their vocals can pack the punch it needs only airi can do it

Controversial Opinion: but i actually really like the 'Love ka?' cover! I'm not a seiyuu stan so i dont care if the boys dont have lines plus they so sing in the chorus together with the girls, they lend their voices to the song as a whole and it all comes together well.
I also really like Meiko's tuning here cause at the very least she has character and it fits well with everyone else; far from her usual tuning where she sounds like a dying robot being plugged in with everyone else (this coming from a Meiko stan).
Real. I love Love Ka. Who cares about line distribution when. It sounds good? And Emu's voice is hardly loud in that cover, she sounds haunting which is good. It also fits Emu very well. There's a reason the JP server loves it and it's because Emu and Tsukasa is the most popular ship in the JP fandom due to how implied it is in the story.
That, and it really fits WxS's theater vibe. Meiko doesn't even sound bad. And the choreography is so clean! The hate on Love Ka just feels like a pineapple on pizza argument. People hate it because other people hate it.

I see a ton of people talking about how they think emu’s voice is too overpowering but I’ll be honest I absolutely adore how high her voice becomes in the group songs. It makes for really good contrast compared to the deeper voices to where it sounds like the song has a bass to it if that makes sense. I get people may think it overpowers but idk I feel like without that high vocal to really make the song boom it just sounds kinda boring , and I’d feel the same way if it was only high vocals
