Pain would be talkin about humanity's flaws and how every human is hateful and there's a never-ending cycle, while iroh would see the beauty in humanity saying that while there may be pain and suffering good will one day come from it
I love this speech because it gives an insight of other villages. The leaf to us are the good guys. However that’s because the show is from their perspective. If we saw naruto from the rain village we would see how evil the leaf truly was during the 2nd and 3rd war. Pain lost his best friend and friends because of danzo using Hanzo. Pain knew that the only way to stop war is the eye of the moon plan.
@Picasso Julien Not just the leaf but what if the anime took place through the lens of the other villages who saw the twelve guardian Shinobi as the villains?
Pain wasn’t trying to do the infinite tsukiyomi..pain wanted all the tailed beast so he could force ppl to stop fighting..like say the leaf was going to war wit the cloud ..pain would step in with all the tailed beast and akatsuki members and force them into a peace treaty, threating their village if they refused ...he was gonna be basically the “god” of the shinobi world making all decisions have to go thru him
Actually pain didn’t know about the eye of the moon plan. That was Madara and Obito only. Pains goal was to redistribute the tailed beasts and have villages nuke each other so they stop fighting out of the realization of the devastation of war.
@John Cena He didn't even know about the eye of the moon plan. Its not that kishimoto "ran out of ideas" at all it's just that he wanted to add something MORE than just Pain and his plan and it was fine with the eye of the moon plan with being the matrix and it was a great plan overall but all the other stuff was just not needed. Kishimoto didn't "run out of ideas" more like he added to much later down and mainly in the war arc.

Notice how pain was never surprised by any of narutos answers. It’s cause he was once like naruto and knows exactly how he feels. He still pursued peace but his idea of peace is twisted and he even contradicts himself even admit to that there will never be true peace but like naruto it’s still something he strives for
Never actually thought about it that way I just thought he had an objective and he was going to let nothing shake him and then whenever he confronted Naruto he reminisced on how his friend Yahiko was just like Naruto...
his idea of peace wasnt twisted. he wanted peace through nuclear weapons because he concluded that people will never work together like that. now look at the real world.
@@hyunweewoo it's still a very twisted out look on peace. What he wanted peace to be was for it to be attained by force with him ruling the ninja world and I don't get what you are trying to say about the real world hear, elaborate?
Pain was the best villain of Naruto, he was equal parts mysterious, tragic, and frightening. His mystery was unraveled slowly, without all the asspulls that Madara used. His power was incredible and we genuinely feared for the lives of the protagonists. We could sympathize with him when we learned of his story, he felt like a likable hero, that had gone far to the dark side in a believable manner.
he was probably the best villain in shounen. He lost so much and used that pain to fuel his hatred. He spoke the truth to a certain extent regarding peace and justice. Justice isn't as black and white in Naruto and Naruto himself is very contradictory in his speech regarding his goal of achieving peace. as long as shinobis exist there would never be true peace.

Pains speech was really a symbolism of what it meant to live a life that's full of suffering and hate. He didn't start out like this, neither was he born to be this way. Imagine being born during a war and watching your parents die at the hands of a stranger. Pain probably didn't feel hate at that point, but more fear and sadness. Being a child and already witnessing violence and death had left a mark on him. At that point, he was motivated by that hate to survive, and the only good he ever had was his two friends and jiraiya. Around that time, the only kindness he ever received after enduring a horrible childhood, was a stranger who didn't take pity on him, but saw potential and cared to raise him. Not only were they taught by jiraiya, but they were practically raised by him for a few years. He had taught pain nin jutsu and how to survive. Maybe at that point, Nagato and his friends felt like they were healing and were feeling the only comfort and love they had ever felt in their lives. But this was short lived, as once jiraiya left, they were sad but motivated to bring about that idea of peace in the ninja world. What started as something good, fell quickly when Danzo had manipulated Hanzo into killing them off. After witnessing his friends death and seeing konan nearly die, Nagato must have lost it, and it broke him and scarred him for the rest of his life. Even Obito manipulated him for his grand plan. So here we see pain so full of hate he doesn't want to see the suffering he endured happen to any other child. He simply believes people are too bad to change, so the only way to bring peace is to make the ninja world submit and bow to their knees. It's a sad idealism, that as it may be done by evil intentions, he's doing it out of fear that it will keep happening unless he personally puts a stop to it. Listening to this speech, you can see he never was truly evil, he just lost his support system and his ideals had changed. Brilliant work by the writer Kishimoto.
But pain contradicts himself when he goes around blowing up villages and killing a bunch of little kids and women and shit. So the idea he doesn’t want any kid to feel the pain he did makes no sense. Lol his philosophy is dumb af
Let's just say, the iconic bad guy didn't just have some inspiration from Darth Vader: He was also inspired by real-life Chinese mafia bosses John Willis and Sister Ping. Sister Ping was the first woman to be a sky dragon (high-tier boss) in the US and John Willis was the first white man to be a boss anywhere, let alone the US. People didn't want either of them to be incarcerated, and Sister Ping was about to be released not just because she was a model prisoner in the Massachusetts Department Of Corrections; she was fighting lung cancer. In Massachusetts, people would protest outside the courtroom; some people made t-shirts. People also demanded John Willis's freedom because he brought back the protection taxes system that stopped the harassment of Chinese-owned businesses. Ultimately, nobody cared because the Celtics won. Just an interesting tidbit.
Reminds me of Iraq, back in 2004. It definitely makes sense, I can see how people can come to hate their perpetrators. For using them, killing them, and ignoring them after they have been used for their land, money, resources.

"This shinobi world of ours is ruled by hatred, and hatred alone." It might be a minor detail, but at the very end of the word "alone," his voice falters, just a bit - like he nearly lost his composure, reliving his trauma. Accompanied by the visual during the line, it's a really nice touch.
Troy Bakers voice man.. It's just amazing. He really took Yahiko Pain to a whole new level. Perfect casting, I don't think anyone else could portray Pain the way he did.
I never knew his name but I have watched and played a lot of the games he voices the main characters for. He has a wildly successful career. Almost everything he's been in is a major success. He truly is a world class voice actor.
"We're both just ordinary men, who have been driven to seek vengeance in the name of justice. And if one comes to call vengeance "justice" such justice will only breed further vengeance and trigger a vicious Cycle of Hatred." "Right now we live in such a cycle, I know the past and can foretell our furure, it is the same as our History." I just typed this part out so i can read this everytime I'm brought back to this.
We cannot win this impossible battle by fighting with others. Only by continually fighting the good fight against our own hatred and helping the broken to heal can we reach a better tomorrow.
The actuall vilain is the "hero",because he follows his hapiness and not other people's hapiness, this is the actual monster of the series and he will pay for this in boruto, when the village will be destroyed again.
I Only Speak The Truth quite a few villains are right. They usually are just right in a realistic since while the protagonist is idealistic. I'd prefer the former.
he was right, the only reason there is peace in boruto is because everyone is afraid of naurto and sasuke, they dont go to war because they know these guys can destroy them in seconds. Pain was right all along.
Yea, Pain was right, but don’t see how his plan would actually work or be effective. If Naruto and Sasuke are dead, would the world just eventually revert back to going to war with each other again?
Not necessarily everyone during the war was united through naruto biju cloak which showed narutos struggle and ppl were able to emphasize with him bt in the war since majority of the nations were united against the moons eye plan it caused the ppl to align for a greater goal bt it allowed the next gen to go a different path from their predecessors and yea naruto and Sasuke are strong in terms of strength bt it's more based upon respect and understanding than it is strength bt subconsciously yea they know they're strong bt that's not the means that allowed the boruto world to go into a more unified connected world
The best part of this speech is that it left Naruto, the wisecracking ninja who always had something snarky to say back, speechless. Because in the end pain had a plan and Naruto didn’t.

I laugh how in this anime, the villain is actually the good guy from this arc forwards, except kaguya, and so it amazes me how naruto preaches about peace and dosen't even bother to unite and clear the other nations,he stays and helps a bit the leaf and then everything is just the same, the same rivalities as before, and then everything goes to shit in boruto, because no matter how foolish, stupid and ignorant one might be,everybody pays for foolish ambitions and stuff of that regard, and so he will pay in boruto for his foolishness.
Lol I always understood Madara, I mean ngl I feel as if I would go on Madara and obitos side. I’ve lost so many people and if living in a dream world is what I have to do to see them again then fuck it lmao, cause at the end of the day Madara wanted peace but the trail of blood he made toward that goal is what people focused on that made him look like a antagonist
Peace like happiness is temporary. A state between states. Eternal peace is a myth as humans with their biological needs wage endless battles simply to survive
This entire scene was incredible, but one thing that i always loved is a villain, who once they actually talk about their motives and they begin making a lot of good points? That is something i love. Pain makes no attempts to cover his actions or say he is the good guy. No, he acknowledges that his actions are brutal and horrific, but only because the Hidden Leaf had done it to his village so many times, destroying his home and his village over and over, pushing him to the point of taking matters into his own hands to deal with it through the formation of the Akatsuki. And the fact that during his speech, he made so many good points that he made the master of talk no jutsu, Naruto, completely speechless and looking like Naruto is questioning some stuff about his own beliefs on the village? That just shows how deep this was. Naruto used to believe that all villains were just greedy and murderous scum who would do anything to benefit themselves and he needs to beat them to secure peace, and yet Pain/Nagato? Further from the truth, he believed that they securing all the tailed beasts would end all warfare and achieve ultimate peace. Naruto (at the time) definitely was not fit to be Hokage, due to the fact that he never understood the concept of the real evils of the world, and that being the very people you call potential friends and allies. The evils aren't always terrorists (Akatsuki) or corrupt business men (Gato) but rather, the very villages whom need to co exist to have peace, yet their own political and cultural ideals will never allow them to do so, until a new 3rd party threat enters that truly devastates them and forces the nations to band together.
I think Nauto started to realize that not every ninja is just greedy or murderous in his first mission vs Zabuza and Haku. He realized that the enemies he fights are people just like him that have things they want to protect, be it right or wrong. That first mission was crucial for Naruto's ability to emphasize with future villains, before that Naruto definitely thought about shit in Black and White. That's why Kakashi told Zabuza in the War Arc he was happy that they went up against the two, Zabuza and Haku. With that being said Pain just pushes what he learned in his first mission to an extreme and askes him questions he couldn't at the time answer. He proved like you said that Naruto wasn't fit to be Hokage at that point.
The dialogue and English voice acting was legendary. This is why Naruto is one of the best shows ever. When Pain told Naruto about Sasuke's hatred, it really hit! The depth & reality he had in his words was moving. Came to listen what Jiraiya had to say to little Naruto too. 4.4.2023
This is the most real speech I've ever heard and it's by far my favorite scene in all of Naruto and the reason Pain is my favorite villain. He's not just powerful but an innocent child turned a narcissistic mastermind with a god complex and a crushingly accurate view on the world. He isn't just fighting for his own goals like most of Naruto's villains but wants to make the world a better place in his own twisted way. Naruto always tends to have a counter to his opponent's goals and beliefs but Pain is the only villain in the series to ever leave Naruto completely speechless. He even outright says "I don't have an answer" because he knows he can't come up with a half-assed answer to something like this. Not only does it shed some light on Pain but it also develops Naruto into a better character. it also helped change my own views on life. Nobody is truly good or evil. There are only people with different struggles and outlooks on life. For a fictional character to be able to effortlessly convey the harsh reality and change a real persons beliefs deserves major props. Kishimoto is a true genius at writing memorable and relatable villains to truly grow attached to.
Agree. Pain went through hell and the hatred he had in his heart consumed him and changed his perspective about the world. It just mirrors real life stuff that just teaches you valuable moral life lessons. Thats why Naruto is my favorite anime.Dragon Ball villains on the other hand, just garbage, they just want to destroy earth with ki blasts like generic villains
Chidori723 I mean that's kind of simplifying some Dragon Ball villains' motivations (I assume you're talking about the Dragon Ball franchise in its entirety), but I will admit their personalities are much less well thought-out.
Damn. I thought Pain was just some edgy token villain until he hit us with the "Ah... I See. That is noble of you.. That WOULD be justice. However.. What about MY family? MY friends?.. MY Village?" Damn Nagato, you onion cutting ninja with your Feels No Jutsu
When Naruto says he wants to kill Pain, that’s when Pain realizes that Naruto is only continuing the cycle of hatred and destruction. Naruto only proved Pains point.
Keith Hagedon damn dawg you get triggered offended so easily. I was joking about the animation style Studio Peirrot used in this entire episode. Jeez take a chill pill.
The creator of naruto deserves it. He created the speech himself anyway, Troy Baker just voiced it. Like a rapper singing lyrics written by a ghost writer
Insomniac True but it doesn’t make anything Pain said wrong. Just because Naruto won doesn’t stop the fact that pain still exists. Boruto is suppose to lose everything in the future. Nagato was right in a certain sense
Insomniac I’m not questioning the outcome I’m simply saying that at that very moment Naruto was broken pain broke his views about hate. He needed an outside source to snap him out of it.
"Oh, I see. That is Noble of you. That would be justice." The way Troy Baker emphasize's this script is awing every-time and it's just a summery of harsh reality of life. It'll be a painful day when we lose him. And we'll come back to hear this.
When a villain starts speaking about HIS friends you know that they're real. I'm not saying that every villain that says that friends are a weakness or whatever is a poor character, but I do prefer a villain that has an altruistic mission built from their own real full experience.
pain doesn't kill just to kill, he's not really a bad guy he just wants the world to have peace so his village can survive. He lost his best friend yahiko cuz of the wars. Pain is my favorite villain in any anime :) hes like the only one who isn't pure evil.
Another villain that comes to mind, for me at least, is definitely the Spiders from Hunter x Hunter. All of them are so monstrous, and kill without mercy or remorse...but you can almost feel how society and life both have rejected them, and that they are the only family they have...a thoroughly rejected group of horrible, cruel individuals, and for that reason, they are the only people to really understand and appreciate eachother.
@@LazyCreepypasta And yet, despite feeling such pain, he causes more suffering and death for no reason. The only person he was there for was Naruto, and yet he came to the Leaf Village and demolished it for selfish reasons. Pain brings up good points, but he is a hypocrite in the fact that he professes about vengeance begetting a cycle of hatred while perpetrating such acts. Destroying the Leaf doesn't change what he needs, only kills people who never fought in a war, but merely want to live peacefully.
Human beings CAN understand each other. The problem is the effort to do so is undermined by various factors(whether it's hatred, lack of empathy/sympathy, greed/personal ambition and many other factors;too many to list)
This was one of the first times in Naruto where a supervillain was shown to not just be a villain that wants to rule the world, but a broken protagonist who grew up in a world where might is right.
Sounds like common sense to me I always tried to squash conflicts and be very difficult to go after rather than playing a revenge game that lasts 7th-12th grade , these dumbasses my friends included would have years of drama with the same people and going after eachother pranking them etc It’s painfully obvious what the consequences are iwhen that happen half of them got in some form of serious trouble and the rest had to deal with a lot of bullshit for years on end.
And I feel hinata character minus the blushing can make anyone understand true admiration love and purity ...she pretty much proves pains point...her sacrifice out of love creates true inner pain that begets hatred and thus the cycle never ends ..retribution anger revenge power.. it won't stop ..

“So Naruto, how would you confront this hatred in order to create peace?” This question hits different when you realize it was rhetorical.
Thats a interesting way to look at it
He pretty much expected that answer
his idea of peace wasnt twisted. he wanted peace through nuclear weapons because he concluded that people will never work together like that. now look at the real world.

Well said
But pain contradicts himself when he goes around blowing up villages and killing a bunch of little kids and women and shit.
@@vinny5727 His philosophy isn't that he doesn't want anyone to feel pain. His NAME is pain. Can't ignore the family clause in this case.
We really can't call pain a villian he's a product of his environment created by other villages
Damn that was a beautiful synopsis

“if one comes to call vengeance “justice” such justice will only breed further vengeance and trigger a vicious cycle of hatred.

Invincentilityx15 Right now, we live in such a cycle.

The dialogue and English voice acting was legendary. This is why Naruto is one of the best shows ever. When Pain told Naruto about Sasuke's hatred, it really hit! The depth & reality he had in his words was moving. Came to listen what Jiraiya had to say to little Naruto too. 4.4.2023
The pain that hurts us most is the pain we hide the best.

The fact that you had to bring DB into a conversation that had no relevancy to that franchise proves a level of insecurity within you, lmfao.

The moment when an Manga/anime does a better job of teaching you the true nature of humanity than public education ever could.
Chidori723
I mean that's kind of simplifying some Dragon Ball villains' motivations (I assume you're talking about the Dragon Ball franchise in its entirety), but I will admit their personalities are much less well thought-out.
@@chidori7234 shut the fuck up
Damn. I thought Pain was just some edgy token villain until he hit us with the "Ah... I See. That is noble of you.. That WOULD be justice. However.. What about MY family? MY friends?.. MY Village?" Damn Nagato, you onion cutting ninja with your Feels No Jutsu
I’m dead but true tho
When Naruto says he wants to kill Pain, that’s when Pain realizes that Naruto is only continuing the cycle of hatred and destruction. Naruto only proved Pains point.
This one of my favorite scenes in anime

Troy Baker deserves an Oscar for this, just saying.
Yes!
I think he only voiced Nagato
Erron Morgan Nagato was obviously voiced my Vic Mignona
The creator of naruto deserves it. He created the speech himself anyway, Troy Baker just voiced it. Like a rapper singing lyrics written by a ghost writer
Erick GTRZ credits to both
Pain's speech also highlights how people blindly fight for a cause and a country that they know no history of.
The sad thing is everything pain said is true to real life..
Radical JJ Obito and Madara too
Basically but it’s not villages it’s Countries.
MADARA UCHIHA THE TRUE SAVIOR bruh
Pain was the only villain that broke Naruto.
@@silvermaus pain broke Naruto to the point he turned into 8 tails
Insomniac True but it doesn’t make anything Pain said wrong. Just because Naruto won doesn’t stop the fact that pain still exists. Boruto is suppose to lose everything in the future. Nagato was right in a certain sense
Insomniac I can agree with that, thanks for responding
Insomniac bro did you forget that Naruto was about to break the seal. If Minato wouldn’t intervene Naruto would have died.
Surprisingly, it doesn't even sound pretentious even though it seems like it should be. Love it.
Two Mouse lmao fuck Troy Baker, fuck humans, and fuck you
Raging Delinquent ight
Troy Baker took Pain from being a badass to being an absolute chad legend with his performance.
When a villain starts speaking about HIS friends you know that they're real. I'm not saying that every villain that says that friends are a weakness or whatever is a poor character, but I do prefer a villain that has an altruistic mission built from their own real full experience.
Dr. Doom and Magneto come to mind
pain doesn't kill just to kill, he's not really a bad guy he just wants the world to have peace so his village can survive.
DIO?
@@LazyCreepypasta And yet, despite feeling such pain, he causes more suffering and death for no reason. The only person he was there for was Naruto, and yet he came to the Leaf Village and demolished it for selfish reasons. Pain brings up good points, but he is a hypocrite in the fact that he professes about vengeance begetting a cycle of hatred while perpetrating such acts. Destroying the Leaf doesn't change what he needs, only kills people who never fought in a war, but merely want to live peacefully.

people can only understand each other through pain
America in a nutshell. The entire world in a nutshell.
I know right
Human beings CAN understand each other.
This speech can make anyone understand about war, peace, pain, and justice
Ismail Hariff if not make them watch it over and over until they understand Pain.
Ismail Hariff
Trust me, you have no idea what war is like. You only think you know.
And Jesus is the answer
Sounds like common sense to me I always tried to squash conflicts and be very difficult to go after rather than playing a revenge game that lasts 7th-12th grade , these dumbasses my friends included would have years of drama with the same people and going after eachother pranking them etc
It’s painfully obvious what the consequences are iwhen that happen half of them got in some form of serious trouble and the rest had to deal with a lot of bullshit for years on end.
And I feel hinata character minus the blushing can make anyone understand true admiration love and purity ...she pretty much proves pains point...her sacrifice out of love creates true inner pain that begets hatred and thus the cycle never ends ..retribution anger revenge power.. it won't stop ..
