I remember when I was learning to play drums I would put records on and try to play along. Honky Tonk Woman was the first I could play along too, it's pretty easy. But then I bought this album and lets just say the song about a hamster made me switch to tambourine.
Love that sound. I thought l nearly heard Frank Zappa at one point. I think quite a few of us don’t sleep well anymore. It’s a crazy world. Stay safe and enjoy your day Lee.
Awesomely SMOOOOOOTH And Beautiful 😎💓. Love, love these instrumentals! Definitely a fun time for you, and thankfully for all of us.! Thank you Leland💞 Stay safe everyone 🤗 and have a sweet rest of your Sunday😉👍 Thank you Frontline workers❣️ Prayers and thoughts for the Ukrainian people 🇺🇦💙💛💪
Love The Section! What a supremely funky and elastic combination of players. Love to hear your detailed and heartfelt commentary, too. Now there's a "jam band"!
Hi all - I just ordered a copy of the DVD of The Wrecking Crew movie as I’ve never seen it. One tiny bit of good news for Ukraine is that the people of Wrexham in UK sent food, clothing and other aid in a convoy of 80 full truckloads yesterday.
I remember listening to Fork It Over back in the day when instrumental albums were quite popular from Jeff Beck to Weather Report. The Section certainly held their own in that scene!
Are you sure this isn't the soundtrack to SANDFORD AND SON...STROLLING DOWN THE STREET WITH GUM ON MY SHOE ,WHISTLING WITH MY HANDS IN MY POCKET...???? Stay safe, be safe Leland 🙏.
Man, "Street Pizza" not only had a slamming groove, but Danny's guitar tone had that "Cissy Stut" by the Meters tone! I can vibe on that all day! Hampsters of Doom!!!! Love the Latin vibe on that one! The Spanish Nylon string guitar really sells that one!!
Always a favorite!! Street Pizza!! on of my 3 favorites from this album!! Russ' drums at the end really pop! Craig is stellar on this! Nice solo by Kootch. And that phat bass bastard, Brilliant! ;-)
I have always been envious of people who can get by…even thrive…with little sleep. You guys have an advantage! Literally more hours to work with than the rest of us.
Im another one of those "seldom sleepers" Ive always been a bit envious of those who sleep. The world seems to shut down for a few hours when Im wide awake. I don't feel tired
Im sure it seems that way to many. I know sleep is vital for health but I dont feel tired without plus its a bit boring being quiet while other's snooze away
Loved the Section. Still have 3 albums all autographed by the master himself, Mr. Lee Sklar probably 35-40 years ago at a flea market out in SoCal. Thank you sir.
Hey Lee, Grandpa Jeeves here, Jim Horn 👍, good friend of da Hayes family, just like you, playing just beautiful music all his career, love ya 4 always showing everyone's name ❤️! 2 ND song, sounds of da funky rock genre of Da Chic Corea days, 👍🤗🤙 Deep Shit! Peace on Earth. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦 ♥️
Very funky 1st song. Second hamster 🐹 song reminded me a bit of Genesis. I guess not surprising that you eventually hooked up with Phil Collins (or vice versa). Anyway, kool stuff!
Good afternoon, Lee Sklar, from Austin, Texas! I so look forward to your posts. Love and light to you and your family (including Marcello and Rossano!).
We're 17 hours ahead of you now. In 3 weeks it'll be 16. So to catch this live will be pretty well impossible for 6 months. Equinox in a few days. Also Monday morning is Judith Owen morning. A lovely, but today sad, thing to wake up to. Loving this funky sound.
Hampsters of Doom!! I'm so Happy!! Kootch's Acoustic beginning and later electric solo...killer! Russ drive's the song! My absolute favorite! (Love the percussion) And that bassline!!! (I'd love to hear TIF "re-imagine" this!) Ah, But Craig's soaring keys on this would be hard to re-imagine...maybe Steve could think of something.
This was a great presentation Lee. I spent a lot of time in Japan in the mid 80s and there were a few hugely popular bands with a similar style to the Section - no doubt because of the Section. Russ really stood out on that last track. Such a masterful performance. I think I’ll start spending more time studying Russ’ play, but I’ll be sure not to ask him about shooting his thumb out for ghost notes again. I think I annoyed him by asking about it at your Santa Clarita show in December. 😁
This was great Lee! One of my old teachers had a similar band in the UK called Both Hands Free, and they became known in Japan too before being sampled to high heaven (without credits) a few years ago on someone's viral hip-hop track! These songs reminded me a bit of Happy The Man - did you ever know Kit Watkins and the rest of the band?
😎👍😎👍. Sounds great!!!!! Must have been fun to watch in performance! If we knew how to put a sound byte in comments we'd have put in "funky funky" for that first one. (Fringe benefit of the channel: in thinking about attempting that joke we also learned stuff about "Cantaloop" and "Cantaloupe Island" that we never knew anything about before as well).
An excellent video. Top music. For years I listed the Album ¿Quién te cantará? of Edith Márquez. Cool songs. But today I listen it using a Shure hearphones, and what kind of music! So sweet, a delicious pieces. And guess what? On drums were John Robinson, and in bass Neil Stubenhaus and Leland Sklar! Really, Leland is an unbelievable musician.
LA Changes - not the Trifecta...but a good 4th choice! (Hell, the album was so solid - no bad tracks!) But the third favorite song, for me, was Suckers on Parade! This cut has such a pocket! The atmosphere created on these songs was immersive, took you places you didn't even know you wanted to go...but were so happy once you were there! Magnetic Lady and Moon Over Fontana also noteworthy! So fortunate that I got to see you guys on tour supporting this album! ('77)
@Rik Converse. Lucky indeed Rik, Never knew about the Section until I discovered Lee's chanel, and of course they are almost impossible to find and if you can find them you've got to pretty much mortgage the house to buy them ...... sigh . 😒😒
I mentioned this before. I remember seeing The Section open for James Taylor on Long Island back in the 70s. At around this time they played one of your records on WNEW FM. It was a song featuring your bass upfront that you may have composed if memory serves me well where you played double stops on bass.
I don’t quite get the hang of it: so it’s right you had a band back in 1977, because you speak of „our“. However, I‘d like to eat at least a piece of this „street pizza“, if it’s that good as this song. 😋. Amazing drums, bass line, sound in general, as far as I can judge it from what I hear here! So those musicians were almost the same as now in the Immediate Family. I would have many more questions, but I don’t want to make demands on your time.
Lee! This is pretty kick-ass stuff here! So, did the label shelve it? Something like that had to have happened. Otherwise, it would be in my music collection. In '77 I was heavily into RTF, and Weather Report. A refugee from RTF, Al Dimeola (mostly because of Anthony Jackson) was on my turntable: Elegant Gypsy, Casino, etc. and much of the changes you guy's are doing here remind me of their stuff. Kind of a Latin influenced groove.
@@lastnamefirst4035 Definitely! I pull Casino out a couple of times a year and get lost for awhile. If you have never seen Rick Beato here on UA-cam he put out an hour long interview with Al DiMeola a couple of weeks ago. I recommend it. Beato did an interview with Lee last year. That is recommended as well.
A real chicken and egg thing happening. You studio guys influenced not only your artists that you backed but I can hear the Brecker Brothets being influenced by you. Very similar to how Booker T and MGs, the Motiwn Funk Brothers, Chet Atkins, etc all had deep impact on our music for decades.
I can't help but think ,you guys were a bit early with this stuff , I'm looking at the current success of groups like snarky puppy.and Dirty loops. Maybe some of these tracks would be a good fit with the immediate family?
Such a great bass tone and presence on this album. Great grooves. Makes me want to strut
Thanks for the Section Lee!!!!
I remember when I was learning to play drums I would put records on and try to play along. Honky Tonk Woman was the first I could play along too, it's pretty easy. But then I bought this album and lets just say the song about a hamster made me switch to tambourine.
Hey Lee. Thanks for these great tunes! You are all such a tight group!!
Love that sound. I thought l nearly heard Frank Zappa at one point. I think quite a few of us don’t sleep well anymore. It’s a crazy world. Stay safe and enjoy your day Lee.
Hamsters of Doom! Are you sure Warren Zevon wasn’t around when you picked the title for that track! 🤣
So cool! Must have been fun.

Nice like the Section Fusion.
😎 Sunday greetings! The Section! 😁
It is impossible to not start movin and groovin to this.
I always loved the tune Bad Shoes with James singing
Fantastic! Takes me back to the early 70’s, dropping acid and listening to Frank Zappa. I miss those days.
The versatility is very under appreciated in my opinion.
Love The Section! What a supremely funky and elastic combination of players. Love to hear your detailed and heartfelt commentary, too. Now there's a "jam band"!

I got the wrecking crew dvd from the library. It's interesting
These albums are burned in my brain from endless listening in college. Outstanding!

Hi Leland. Cool vibes from ‘77. Closing in on #900! Thanks for making Sunday - and every day - a little better.
Just read where William Hurt of Big Chill and Body Heat passed, he was 71.
So sorry to hear this. A fine actor..
