I picked one up because I love the Valtronix sound. I actually like the little speakers it has as well. I use it late at night when I just want to plug and play quietly 🙂
Yes, you can use it to control, volume, gain, and a bunch of other settings. It's really customizable. When I took my tonelab out of the box, I had to reconfigure a few things, and it can sound displeasing at first until you switch the cabinet settings. You can set the the dial to metal, but it won't sound like you desire unless you tweak a few things, and that's why I like it. I have a 100 watt amp that I set to 2/10 and most of the power comes from this pedal.
Yes it does. The expression pedal serves a lot of purposes and that is one of them. The cool thing about the pedal is that you can customize 100 customized settings/tones. This makes transitions from a volume pedal to a Wah Wah pedal to a reverb pedal really easy at the stomp of your foot. Don't count me on reverb, but I think that you can customize it. You can also set the delay time of each song--that's not adjustible by the pedal, but by stomping on your setting with 1 out of 4 kinds of delay
Hi I Have a Vox TB35C2,and a Modified Vox Valvetronix, Motherboard in a Hughes and Kettner 1X12 V30 with a Tung-sol 12Ax7... with a second cab. Troy from Atlantic City
as someone who played guitar for more than 25 years. This preamp pedal is awesome for computer recording. One thing it can't do well is Clean blues like that of true dumble, that tone John Mayer does. Since it requires your rig to be really loud. Everything else , I find it superb for the price. Beginners usually go for expensive gear and have no idea how to use them. And how many of us can practice loud all day with top gear with a capable band? This is a solution when you are looking for great tone, to record ideas into your computer. It sounds better than BOSS. But the sad thing is, retro sounds are kinda dying in this Justin Bieber world. Sometimes I wonder why we even play the guitar when most people are happy nowadays with Synth's sounds. Especially in Asia. Nice guitar sound are all dead.
Hi Kenneth - Please specify what failed. It's very easy to replace the 12AX7 tube. Good idea to replace that ... once a year, maybe once in 60 mos. Minute price to pay for the wonderful sound/feel. I'm using all Fender - which I highly appreciate. But, were it not for the volume i have to work, I would be using probably a VOX Valvetronix. But I'm planning to use a Tonelab with my Fender. I'm interested to know what failed though - if there is a design/manufacture weakness I'd like to know - R
@akemashite666 You ca nnot use it in place of the VFS5, but the expression pedal will control many of the effects parameters. It is not a foot switch for a Valvetronix VT amp, it is an entire modeling piece on it's own.
I used this distortion pedal in most of my recent videos. A few of my songs are really pathetic, but that was mostly me learning new things on guitar with no distortion pedal and a really weak amp that fuzzed all the time.
‘The distortion pedals can be used in place of a amp model to preserve the tone of your amp’ And how exactly were you thinking of doing that without the presence of a send/return loop ? Are you suggesting to put the EX in the effect loop of an amp, so the distortion ‘pedal’ (as well as things like the wah pedal) behind the preamp ? Definitely experimental, but useless for common sounds. Or are you suggesting to put the EX before an amp ? Now the distortion pedals will sound normal (as well as some other effects like the compressor and wah ) but pretty much everything else will be useless. Please let me know ;)
I just got this thing today and I havent got a clue how to use it...I'm not used to working with multi-fx pedals..do you have a really good tutorial on how to use this thing? please help..thanks!
From 3:06 to 4:14 in my video, "Oxygen is Not Enough For me" I switched to a setting with some delay that I set by tapping my foot thrice. It's actually not very noticeable because I played smoothly. Anyway, it thickened up my mini-solo...although, I'm a solo-artist anyway.
Hey, i bought this pedal and haven't a clue how to use it, I only know how to put it in ST mode and mess with it manually.. Would anyone recommend me a good video or something to show me how to work the thing? i have very little experience with E Guitars
Maybe with a boss me80 you wouldn't find they discontinue it and refuse to replace it when you send it in for a warranty repair as well. I won't be buying any more Vox/KORG gear.
I've had one for a bit over a year and love it. Have it going into an Orange solid state amp and do clean, crunch, maybe a bit of flange or chorus at times - a very nice tremolo built in, and the wahs are fine. Two criticisms - the built-in speakers are worthless and serve no useful purpose; please give us a better patch librarian.
I had had Windows XP installed in my pc and when ever i connect the pedal using USB, the pc detect it as sound card. Recording was very nice and neat. Few days ago I updated to Windows 7 and the nightmare began. The pc detect the pedal as a MIC. Whenever I want to record something the sound is very bad, very high (as if you are using LINE) I re-installed the drivers and the problem remains. I formatted the pc and installed windows 7 again but the same thing happened. Can anybody help?
@garydupuis that is correct, i run mine line for any gig. saves lugging equipment and a ton of stage room. sounds the best through a PA rather than an amp in my opinion
@M3talMartyR1 Dude!! If you´re gonna compare Boss and Digitech models to this processor i think it should be compared to the Boss Gt 6 or 8, or the Digitech Rp1000...Definetly go for the Vox
Hey guys?...why doesn't VOX post a proper tutorial?that's how I learned to use the Kemper Amp, which should be more complicated.....but it's not. The EX is not intuitive at all and the stomps are confusing. There are some tutorials but not one in English. I cannot make heads or tails of the manual....and I have learned a lot of digital audio soft where.

This was a great unit.VOX should do its own new modelling, with IRs etc.Bravo, VOX !
2024 y soy feliz con mi Vox Tonelab ex y mi Vox Valvetronix VT40+
❤I LOVE YOU VOX❤

I need of service manual tonelab ex for repair resistor [DC/IN]
thank you!

@MattGuitLead Awesome!!! That answer just made me want to buy this product even more...

Looking forward for a video tutorial for Patch Librarian.
I got a tube amp Jet City JCA2112RC awesome sounding but I need more distortion

How good is this for live performances? Can I hit the reverb foot switch for instance without it skipping like the tone-lab st?
You can use this without an amp and just put it through a PA system, correct?
Yes!
I just bought this thing (used) and I cannot set the sensitivity of the expression pedal, I always get error. Any ideas how to fix it?
1:28 guy with the gold Les Paul. Dude teach me
That was nice of Sammy Haggar to demo that for us! (but what's he chewing on when he's playing?)
Cocaine (?)
what failed? there a tube inside, i would like to know if it was the tube that failed, thanks
i like it because i know how to use it
I want tone. I use an Ethos Overdrive TLE. It would have been nice to just hear the reverb on this unit too.

i got a vsf5 valvetronix but i dont have the footswitch , with this pedal i can replace the footswitch????
VOX! Vox focuses on tone
Hey, i bought this pedal and haven't a clue how to use it, I only know how to put it in ST mode and mess with it manually.. Would anyone recommend me a good video or something to show me how to work the thing? i have very little experience with E Guitars
I'm thinking of getting this or a Boss Me-70? what do you think guys?
boss me80 is better! or line 6 pod 300
Maybe with a boss me80 you wouldn't find they discontinue it and refuse to replace it when you send it in for a warranty repair as well. I won't be buying any more Vox/KORG gear.
I would imagine not, but that's kind of a moot point after Korg have taken it for a repair and then gone "hahaha you're screwed"
can you use the expression pedal as a volume pedal ?
How does the tonelab ex compare to the boss me-70?
I've had one for a bit over a year and love it. Have it going into an Orange solid state amp and do clean, crunch, maybe a bit of flange or chorus at times - a very nice tremolo built in, and the wahs are fine.

its got good reverb !!
can i change from clean to distortion with this pedal or it's only for effects?
Does it have any looper?
so could this plug into my peavy amp or do i need a certain type of vox amp?

So this is where boss me series got its trick bag form.
@garydupuis that is correct, i run mine line for any gig. saves lugging equipment and a ton of stage room. sounds the best through a PA rather than an amp in my opinion
Hello. Can this be used with an acoustic guitar?
Cheers
The Line 6 pod HD500 is.
which is the best ? VOX or BOSS GT 10 ????
you can do that !!
yes it does
yes !!

how does he do 2:02
Great effects. Failed after a year of light use. I will never play with this without a back up.
how much
@ZPRFado an acoustic electric
This or boss me-70?
@MrJemCem thanks ;)
@MyLifeChanger yes, its very easy to do so.
Not hearing any music though - it's like a gymnastics competition, but tuneless. Nice box? I can't tell.
@garydupuis I Hope you'll have fun :)

@kamtyrocks yes but thats the only way you can bend a tone on a original les paul type!
@MrJemCem bending the neck?
@DIGITALH1TMAN this my friend
Yeah.
less effects, more real tone
@garydupuis You can :)
looks like johnny demarco
the cringe is overwhelming

Great effects. But failed after a year.
Do you put ads on your own product demos to make people walk away from watching them?!!!
No treble... No attack! Awful Sound. No Presence!
Yuck! The snobbery of the brits is sooo evident in this..
Vox is owned by Korg who are Japanese, you dumb shit.
