To be fair. I've never heard anyone describe rugby as soft.
Saw the video title in my recommendations and had the exact say thought. 🤨 The answer is, no, no one who has ever seen the sport has ever said that!
they have it confused with american football, or just football
I have, but 100% of the time those comments came from butt-hurt football fangirls
A lot of American football or as they say 'football' players say that rugby's soft a lot of the time
Same
MASSIVE respect for the attacker in the clip at about 7 mins... He saw the guy he knocked down was fucked and put him into the recovery position. Thats a big man physically and mentally.
@@NoTaboos >You must be a small man physically and mentally
Yeah this dude is projecting lmao
@@Qulize 😂
@@NoTaboos normal? Bullsh*t. Look outside your window d/head.
That’s Motu Matu'u. The dude said he heard his mum’s voice asking why he didn’t look after “the boy” he knocked out, that’s why he ran back and put him in the recovery position….lol. True story
@@Qulize He deleted that part LMAO. Small man mentality
6:38 Mad props to the other teams player helping him out by rolling him into the recovery position, very cool!
0:36 That hit by Koroibete to stop a player who must be at least 150% of his bodyweight is outrageous!
100% 🤝❤️❤️😎
it helps when it was a shoulder charge.
@@bFORCe2003 Nope, it was perfectly legal.
@@linalmeemow no arms in that tackle
.
@@bFORCe2003 Arms were there, he just bounced the big fella off before he was able to wrap. Totally legal!
Whammo and boomfa are really fun words
Who said rugby was soft? I played rugby for years and I've literally never heard anyone say rugby was soft.
American Football player's fans say that all the time about the rugby players that run longer distances, much more time while they are less protected(by helmets etc)
@@alxdava2004 No they don't
@@alxdava2004 I had seen an interview with a guy who had played in the NFL and then went over and played professional Rugby. He said the hardest hits come from the NFL and the Speed is faster in the NFL. But endurance and overall toughness he'd get to Rugby players.
Rugby and football are different! in football there are no high tackles thats why they wear the padding and a helmet to stop someone from getting sent to the hospital!!!
Great video, I've seen tons of rugby vids on YT and still there were many new clips for me on this one. On a sidenote, it's incredible to see how not so long ago tackles (inluding shoulder charges) that ended up in concussion were celebrated and glorified. All this talk about the game going soft is ridiculous to me, you can see many huge tackles being made today while being mindful of avoiding the head at all costs. I've been playing rugby for many years and for me it actually takes much more technique and skill to make a big hit while staying well within the rules - knowing where to place tour feet, bend your knees, place the shoulder and the head correctly, hitting, wrapping up, driving with your legs and bringing the other player safely to the ground is much harder than just smashing into him/her without any considerations. I for one am glad that authorities are taking this stuff seriously now, specially now that we have so much info on the horrible long term effects of repeated blows to the head.
Absolutely. Great tackle techniques make for great viewing while lowering awful risk. There will always be "rugby incidents", but shoulder charges are actually cowardly. Real men tackle hard and accept the risks; cowards lead with their shoulders and idiots lead with their heads.
Thank for your comment
but you cant lift and drive now. i think its gone too far, i dont think anyone celebrates concussion, that just though guys had to stay down to get their breath back,
@@jamesyelton11 lifting and driving has been off the books for ages now, and is probably one of the more dangerous tackles injury wise. What i think has gone too far is the calling of "seatbelt" tackles, as high tackles
Thumbs up if you want see Ma'a Nonu Destroying Opponents
Hard hits: Yes
Legal plays by current rules: very few
Number of cards missed in this montage: too many
Even with the current rules most of the tackles in the video are legal, in a few the commutators spot no arms or hits to the head so I guess there may have been cards anyway but it cuts away too early.
The one where the tackler puts the player he hit into the recovery position, head to head, red card now though so yes there are definitely some.
Keep up the great work💪🏼
Really enjoying the Videos👌🏽
Thanks so much ❤️❤️
Wow, you've done it again! This video was absolutely epic! I can't wait for the next one. You're the rugby king! 🏉👑
More to come!
That yellow player at 6.38, top man right there. Excellent vid man
Appreciate it!
Frans Steyn came through with that yum yum!
Edit: seeing JdV and Fourie getting stoked was like seeing Ali fawn over Tyson (or visa versa)
Anyone who says the sport has gone soft should be legally mandated to spend 15 minutes on the pitch in any pro match
Make that two minutes, they wouldn't last 1 minute. The rules have gone softer, but the game is much harder and faster than in the 80's and 90's.
Make that two minutes, they wouldn't last 1 minute. The rules have gone softer, but the game is much harder and faster than in the 80's and 90's.
And they should be the first to run it up...
@@Islandkid679 In that case, give'm 10 seconds
With all the red cards these days, they'll soon be wearing tutus
Whoever said rugby is soft has never watched a rugby game. No helmets, shoulder pads, shin pads. Just man on man, muscle on muscle collisions. Definitely not for the faint of heart.
I often wonder now, at the age of 66, why my body hurts so much at times? Then I remember, oh yes! I played rugby union from the age of 8 for 15 years 😁 Still would never have changed it for anything!
when has anyone ever called rugby soft
I an still feel my teeth rattling from some of those hits. Superb selection. Thanks for sharing 🏉🌹
One thing I wasnt prepared for when I was lucky enough to go see a super 12 match in Hamilton NZ ('99), was the actual sound of the tackles from the stands - man, you can hear the bones crunching and the gasps of crushed air, even from that distance!..jeez its brutal and Tana Umaga had a great game! luckily there was no dumbass 5 second loop of shit music drowning out the sound, but hey...
how many of these tackles struck directly the head of the opponent, left him concussed, or raised them above the horizontal line?
it's not about rugby being soft, it's about not hurting to death those who play it
Yeah, the so-called “crackdown” on those types of tackles a couple years ago did absolutely nothing. It worked pretty well at first, then just kind of petered out. Even if captains asked the ref to check a tackle, there would rarely ever be punishment. And sometimes even tackles that started off in a good position and then slipped up too high were punished with 8+ week suspensions when ones that were malicious were ignored.
When I played rugby you didn’t tackle above the waist, let alone the shoulders!
@@jimbosayer1 In the 70s we called it a "smother tackle" - it was a last ditch manoeuvre ... to wrap up the other guy's arms. But it was executed *after* he'd gone past. I love rugby, but I'm glad my son resisted my wish for him to play.
It seems to me that most of the people commenting here take pleasure in the sight of men being hurt.
@@jonathandenby9740 seems to me that you’re wrong. Most comments are about how bad these tackles are. Rather than how much they are enjoying the pain of the players.
1:25 on dmac was definitely a red card 😂
red?
Well he went low on the tackle.
D-Mac's fault for Dipping. Good thing this is a man's game
I once got concussed by a fijian No.8 about 30 minutes in, I was fullback. When I came to it was half time 🤦🏾♂️🤣
"Soft" is not found in Rugby vocabulary bro
Just think it's like American football but without the roids, padding or timeouts.
Rugby is a man's sport
There is no high tackles in football tho.
0:56 look at the women in grey's faces 😂
6:38 sportsmanship.
I have about 3 things to say. 5:12 Hit on Joe was one of the nastiest tackles ever seen. Then how many times will Gio Aplon been knocked senseless on a rugby field? Lastly, now I know when the New Zealand players practice their shoulder tackles and who inspires Owen Farrell to shoulder charge
Some of these hits had some good techniques on them 😮
Only some!
Should do the same video but only with the clean tackle. Many fouls in this video
Most of these tackles are surely completely illegal. No attempt to wrap arms, and the majority just under the neck.
At this time when these hits are made most of them was legal
@James Drake it's footy, a good hits a good hit. No doubt you played, have you forgotten how good it felt to get smashed and to hopefully smash someone else? Come on man..
the ones made in 2020 and 2021 for sure
@@jjeales7329 Nah. I have and I do. But the stats are perfectly clear. We have to take the head out of the game as much as possible. Another class action suit taken out today in the UK against the governing Rugby League body. This kind of thing should always be fair game, though: ua-cam.com/video/iZPZLnA_HWc/v-deo.html
@@GGRUGBY the shoulder charge has never been legal in union. There is a difference between illegal and not referred properly
No one sees it as soft, its just a different type of physicality. The hits are still hard and fast. Put these guys in pads and they take and give twice as hard, and will get crushed by actual football players who are used to cruise missle-ing into people for 120min... and vise versa, take the pads off American football players and they'll be injured way more as they tackle with shoulders and body weight into each other's legs and have very little form, do that against a rugby player and A you'll probably miss and B get knee in the unprotected head. Different games.
well done GG MONTAGES!!
❤️❤️❤️
I think coz of movies and stuff like that u don’t realise just how big these hits are until you’ve experienced something like it
Great content with some unseen footages..💥
0:09 😂😂
My uncle played for the all blacks and no rugby can never be described by soft
I had a roommate in college who played rugby. He’d walk in and I’d be like, “Hey man. Wait. Is your ear sewed back on?” Him: “Oh yeah. I almost got my ear ripped off in a game.” He had perpetual brush burns on his temples from sticking his head between two other guys’ bums during play.
NFL players won't last 20 minutes in a rugby match! 😆
This is a man's sport!!! Even Americans can't compete
This sport is where the phrase 'hospital pass' originates.
true
The ones that say rugby has gone soft are the ones that haven't experienced a WWE close line taking your head off or getting dumped on your neck and you cant play again for months then we'll see what they say
I watch a lot of NFL, but rugby is another level of brutal.
I would just love to see the types of Neymar, Mbappe and Ronaldo play this sport once.
"Rugby's gone soft" said no one ever. This isn't the NBA folks, this sport's still as raw as it was 20 years ago. Christ
Tbh I often worry about the internal organ and brain damage done. We have already seen the dementia cases rising in ex professionals, and I worry about how long the current state of rugby can continue
Once the clams start rolling in..."Where there's a hit there's a writ" is an old music business saying that will soon apply to rugby.
Boys being practicing that Farrel tackle!!!
Such ashame Benson Stanley had such a short career due to head injuries 🤕. The man was a beast and could tackle like a demon !!
Fck yeah man, he was underrated aye
I could have turned a lump of coal into a diamond watching this video.
Oh loads of dangerous tackles !
This video is literally meant to prove Football fanatics wrong. All those Football players who say "Rugby sucks", or "Rugby isn't hard/tough", take a look at this video. Most likely will 1000% change your mind.
Who the hell says rugby is soft? If you wanna see soft, watch football!
Toughest game on earth. Brutal.
I'm a rugby fan, but have to admit, that it's nowhere near as tough as CALCIO STORICO FIORENTINO.
Make a Part II please.
Send me some hits ideas
Geez the bench looks wonderful.
I don’t see myself as a pushover by any means, but I’d have been turned to pink mist by some of these tackles.
thanks for showing legal ones. lots of these montages are just yellows and reds. Nice to see a montage that shows how realistically legally brutal it can be
I think if some of these clips were longer you'd see yellows & reds produced, & quite right too.
@@midnightmoses580 definitely some of them are on the fence. a lot of them are straight legal. just tough
Lol, half of these were high tackles. Hardly any were legal in this video.
Chabal watching the video:: "Hold my beer!"
Rugby isn't soft but the officials are making it soft with pedantic cards, pedantic rulings and pedantic decisions soon it will be like soccer this isn't tiddlywinks.
Pedantic x13
Super Rugby from 2011 - 2014 was honestly my fav years. I wonder what happened to some of the stars from back then.
They all got CTE

Oh, and trust Nesbit to question a rock solid tackle on a Kiwi player by an Aussie as 'no arms'. Geez, he really does refuse to offer up anything positive for the opposition
Can't stop watching this
I don’t think anyone has ever called rugby soft. Ever
Where is the famous tackle of Schalk Burger (Stormers) on Fourie du Preez (Blue Bulls)
Pretty sure no one EVER has referred to Rugby as "soft."
Is rugby soft? No.
Is being soft a bad thing? No.
Ah yes, when Karl’s head became a blood fountain
Bismarck's hit on DC! 🔥
Will you say rugby is soft in front of Chabal ?
This can be your last words.
At least half of those tackles are illegal now
i never heard somebody say rugby is soft :D
Surprisingly the Hurricanes featured a lot in this video. Other than Motu Matu'u’s monster hits, didn’t think we had many memorable ones to be honest…
Ya love to see it 💯
Quite a fewnof these tackles would be carded nowadays. Quite a few shoulder charges and contact to the head.
I don't think anyone has ever said rugby was soft. Not even a little bit or anything that comes close.
Often the big hits happen when someone is caught off foot, blind sided or in a worse off body position... or they just get smashed and physically dominated
"Is Rugby soft?"..... said no one ever.
That hit on Roco was phenomenal
0:02 He could probably feel ten whole years of his lifespan being sucked out of his body .
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Man I love rugby
No better rugby than seeing a big hit and then seeing that player abandon play to check on his opposition
Haskell in the background at 4:26?
These guy have better form then all the convicts in the nfl.
What the fuck is the guy at 5:30 doing?? He slows down into the contact, just sticks his face right into his shoulder?!
Koroibete's hit on Laulala was insane. On another Islander could pull that off.
Players - no. Game - yes. 90% of these tackles results in the ref stopping the game to have another look.
Makes it so stop/start.
Most of these tackles would be illegal these days
Sorry not great . Tackle from waste and below is how rugby used to be.. and it was a beautiful game. Bigger is not necessarily better
From the word itself, cant even pronounced RUGBY in a soft way🤣🤣
I haven't heard anyone say Rugby is soft...
In the top few toughest games in the world I would think, not sure what would really be tougher.
They say Ice always rises to the top, is this why Antartica is So close to Michael Hooper
Jesus that Highlanders hurricanes matchup
The hit of the century
No one since the dawn of man ever said rugby was soft. Without reading this caption
How's that tackle on McKenzie not high?
You never replay when a South African does an amazing tackle, but amazing video non the less
0:36 Holy Cow.... 13 st winger knocks over 20 st prop.... its all about technique folks!!
Old comment but that was a shoulder charge not a tackle. He never had any intention of making a tackle, as seen by him keeping his wrist strait throughout and no move to grab the player.
Was that Will Chambers playing for Reds?
