- A Valentine's Day special!
Since we were shoting photos for my book, The Victorian Dressmaker, we decided to revisit my bridal outfit - and here's the result.
I was surprised that itfitted it 6 years after the wedding - but it was great to wear it again and refresh the memories from our wedding!

Well I thought it's another beautiful costume... and then it turned out it's your ACTUAL wedding gown! Haha amazing :)

i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a method to log back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot my password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Kyler Nolan Instablaster ;)
@Darren Russell Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Darren Russell it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you really help me out :D
Watching your videos has taught me how utterly ridiculous the concept of bodice-ripping romance novels are. There are way too many layers to deal with!
I mean, you probably could rip them (if you snipped them first). But I doubt any heroine would be so forgiving of someone destroying their expensive clothing. I know I certainly wouldn’t be!
You could still have quick fun with the slit drawers
@@kimdupont3731 I've seen a novel make good use of that but it wasn't historically accurate.
I think it's so lovely that you actually got married in this outfit. All of it is very beautiful
Well, I made it for this purpose:-)
Gorgeous!!!
Ive always thought she looks a little like Christina Ricci!!! :D
How charming!
This also shows how practical it can be to have the dress consisting of separate pieces. You can change some during the day - or mix and match after the wedding.
That was fascinating and such a beautiful dress. My grandmother married in the late 1890s and she told me her dress was a brown skirt, cream blouse and brown jacket. After the wedding, it was her good dress.
TheKyPerson I love the idea of being able to wear it again. Maybe I could have mine dyed and remove my train after I marry so it could be worn on other occasions... Maybe I could add a dark layer of chiffon over the skirt...
Yep, it was very common for the "regular" folk to have an outfit they'd be able to reuse after their wedding. That's why white wedding dresses were such a status symbol- it was near impossible to re-use them because you couldn't keep them clean if literally any work had to be done.

There’s some women who have made a project out of rewearing their wedding dress...I don’t have the links just now, but the stories are funny and poignant.
SoundShinobiYuki
I hadn’t thought of this before. Thanks!
I just commented to Lily Brown
There are stories of women who have done fun things with their wedding dresses
I don’t have the links just now...but they are worth looking for 😊
And you really got married in that dress! Wow! I am really amazed, and with all the costumes of your guests and all. I would love to get married like that also. Feel like I’ve watched a period movie. Very lovely!
Fascinating fact: the bridal gown was often also the gown the lady would be buried in. And she'd lay it out in the room next door when she was giving birth. Just in case.
It sounds like a logical idea. People are usually buried in their best clothes. Which dress could be finer than a woman's wedding dress?
The sad part is that the "just in case" was no exaggeration.
What I love most about this video is that she actually wore this on her wedding day. I like seeing this kind of dress back in use.
That was definitely one of the nicest theme weddings I’ve seen. The clothes we’re just beautiful! What lovely memories you must have of that day.
I had a Victorian wedding, and I designed my dress using various features of Victorian dresses. My dress was lavender and ivory, and I wanted it to look more like a Victorian-inspired ball gown instead of a traditional Victorian wedding dress. I had it made by a costume shop that makes the costumes for the major theater near my home because they were the only ones I could find who had the necessary expertise.
The wedding gown in this video was so beautiful! I love its attention to Victorian structure and layering. I like that Victorian brides wore their wedding dresses to special occasions after the wedding. It’s always seemed sad to me that a modern bride typically wears her gown only once.
Thank you for sharing the video!
P.S. I went to your website, and it blew me away! So much talent and expertise!
I love that the bridal dress was worn after the wedding. Much more practical than today's just on the wedding day.
Thank you so much for sharing this video and the wedding photos. You {and hubby} look stunning, and I'd pick that wedding gown over anything they show on Say Yes to the Dress. Beautiful!
Diana Gibson Modern wedding gowns tend to be boring IMO. I’m SO tired of seeing strapless wedding gowns.
Love that this was your actual wedding dress, absolutely gorgeous
I thought it was so sweet that the gown you put on was your actual wedding dress!
Jessica Ison I loved that she chose her own dress. Now she can tell us about the authentic experience! :)
This is wonderful! I've always loved seeing this kind of dressing up videos, as I found vintage fashion to be intriguing. I also adore the fact that the dress that you are wearing is the actual wedding gown you wore at your own wedding! Your wedding seems so beautiful too~
Oh my goodness, this was your actual wedding dress? How beautiful! Thank you so much for the video and for sharing some behind the scenes of it in use on your wedding day!
I discovered your channel about a month ago, and I am always blown away by just how elegant you look in these dresses. I've always loved period dress, but seeing them in motion is so much more beautiful than seeing them as just a static image.
Your wedding photos were simply amazing. I must say, that husband of yours is incredibly dashing. There's just something about a sharp-dressed man.
I also love the waltz from Tchaikovsky's 'Sleeping Beauty' as well.
When I found out that my moms train was detachable I thought it a genius idea and the lady who made her wedding dress was brilliant. But apparently that idea has been around for centuries. That’s kind of cool.
So beautiful!
Also, I can't remember if I've asked, but since you have had "maids" in the videos, might you do a quick one on dressing up as a servant or maid of the time period(s)?
Alas, I don’t have any suitable clothing! Once I do I will
Oh, good idea! I would love to see the servants getting ready for the day, too!
I agree, How do the maids get dressed? We need to look into their lives too
4:58 I didn't question the background until it suddenly moved!
That final picture with Lucas' cheek resting against your brow is so perfect. You two have an air of utter comfort and contentment for one another that shows up so often in your videos, but it's nice to know it's been there since the beginning!
Stunning gown! You and your husband make a very handsome couple. Love your videos!
Beautiful period wedding. Some things never change, the bride is beautiful in her gown and the bridesmaids well enough said! What a day to remember, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your wedding photography, you looked amazing, the dress was beautiful and for more practical than what is worm today.
Wow this dress is amazing! I expect when you walked into the room, everybody took a deep breath because of how stunning you looked! Congratulations on your 7th year of marriage! Btw - your hubby looked rather dapper!
Oh...that was so interesting to watch...but then it became a beautiful thing to watch as you showed the real Wedding photos!
I'm getting married in February next year, and I'm looking forward to the preparation and worry being over and tthe day to just begin... ❤️
A Victorian wedding!!!! Wow how lovely!!! Actually my dream come true 😍
It’s so cool that this was your actual wedding dress. You looked lovely on your special day
So beautiful! You and your husband make such a cute couple! And a wedding with those kind of clothes is amazing!
Absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Stunning wedding pictures!!!
This is incredibly beautiful. Although I'm glad that woman's clothing is a little more practical nowadays, I want to wear something like this at least once in my life.
Wow with all those layers and buttons and tapes I can see why Miss Havisham never got round to taking hers off!
This is insane! You look like you came from that time period!
Ann D'Eon Well, maybe a lot of women would like a period look, myself included!
You look beautiful! I love that you wore it for your wedding, very memorable ❤
I'm living in the wrong time period, look at those beautiful clothes but knowing my luck I'd either be a servant or in the workhouse!! 😂
Me too
Pixie Locks You are so funny!
Me, too :)
Id definitely be in the workhouse so much so I live right next to an old one (that they turned into a hospital)
Me too!
Beautiful dress. Beautiful bride. Beautiful couple. So lovely! And the horse was beautiful, too!
Y’all make a lovely couple. Congratulations.
So wonderful to see a bridal veil worn the way it should be, and not just a piece of netting hanging off the back of the head!
I love that you had a historically attired maid as well. That just set the scene perfectly. Gorgeous dress!
What a beautiful bride! And what a bliss not to have to wear those garments nowadays. However, they were truly beautiful, and your hands are wonderful.
This was pretty beautiful, I hope my future bride dress like that on our marriage. I love these vintage things.
Emanuel de Araújo Sousa I am glad to see a man appreciating this old style of beauty. May I ask, do you know if other men find this style attractive as well?
I think most men actually do, but it's hard to convince women to dress like that. I'm pretty vintage myself (unfortunately, I don't have recreated clothes like priorattire), but when I present this kind of outfit to a woman she just says "no, no!". So sad...
And I think these victorian dresses are pretty better for women. They make both chubby or skinny women pretty beautiful regardless of her shape.
Thank you for the answer, I am glad to hear it.
Glad to help!
What a lovely wedding! It was beautiful that everyone was in historical attire. Beautiful - and you and your hubby looked gorgeous.
Such a beautiful wedding dress. Loved the pictures of your actual wedding.
Absolutely Beautiful if only brides these days wore such elegant dresses
I would love to have the same concept on my wedding day! For a person like me who loves historical stuffs, this is just fabulous! 😊😍 Looking forward to your more videos. 😄
I didnt almost cry at the end, im such a soppy one lol, i always cry at wedding stuff now since ive gotten married haha. That dress is beautiful, you looked like a princess
Was thinking how awesome it would be if you actually were married in this gorgeous gown! Then... there it was, your actual wedding with the gown. Absolutely beautiful! Perfect dream wedding. 💖🌷💍💎
I love how you did a Victorian Era themes wedding! So cool!
I love that your man went for Regency: probably the most flattering style for men ever!
As soon as I hear it
I KNOW YOU I WALKED WITH YOU ONCE UPON A DREAM
You're the full deal when it comes to historical fashion: talented seamstress and equestrian! One might say a true modern lady. I'm very impressed!
So glad I don't live in that era! Gorgeous to look at, but the impracticality of putting so many layers on would have killed me every day! For an actual wedding though, stunning!
My understanding, though, is that it really didn't take that long to get dressed -- only 10-15 minutes, tops. There is, in fact, a video on this channel that talks about exactly this.
Very beautiful, how nice would it be if modern brides wore this kind of thing.
I’m planning on doing this for my wedding!
I'd love to see a full Regency wedding gown!!
But I think Regency wedding gowns were actually pretty simple, as befit the Regency style
Just as a bride should look! Modest yet the style is flattering! No showing of"the girls", no sheer corset style! Very feminine! I am old fashioned!
This dress is more old fashioned than even you are. It's 18th century modest lol.
*19th century. This is a Victorian style dress. That's 1837-1901.
Oh gosh you look stunning!! The dress is amazing! You both look amazing and thank you so much for sharing your photos from your wedding!
This will sound stupid but I ate this video up like a dessert and absolute adore the idea that you actually gown for your own wedding for it had literally taken my breath away . Thank you so much for sharing 💝
Loved that you shared your actual wedding pictures, very cool idea! LOVED the dress!
So nice to see friends sharing the historical fun! Beautiful dress and beautiful wedding!
Thank you so much for Sharing! You two were absolutely Breathtaking! What a Perfect Wedding!
What a treat to see your own wedding. Thank you!😎😎😎😎😎
Your wedding was beautiful. Straight out of a fairy tale.
You were an absolutely beautiful bride & your bridegroom looked like a romantic hero . Obviously a marriage made in heaven & congratulations on 7 years of wedded bliss (if I did the math right).
Stunning! I loved that you actually used this as your wedding outfit, an added bonus for us watching.
Congratulations, & may all your troubles be little ones. x
I am not into woman's fashion, so how on earth UA-cam recommended your video to me, I don't know. That being said, I was fascinated by how complicated this wedding dress was in comparison to my wife's wedding dress which was worn only once. But, what I would love to see also is a video of how your hubby dressed up in his regency outfit. How complicated were the men's clothes? Probably not. You know how us guys are about asking for directions. Har har. Lovely wedding by the way. Anyway, please consider doing more that one video of men's fashion too since you have a willing victim, I mean, husband.
Thank you! The victim might be willing, but i don't specialise in men's 19th century fashion... at last not yet. I am budgung a good historical talior i know to make a smilar channel, his expertise would be very welcome!
@@priorattire Tell him he'd definitely have a subscriber in me ;)
@@priorattire I figured it out. I know how your video was recommended to me and you now have an excuse to visit Fort Worth, Texas.
I took my sons through the Texas Civil War Museum here in Fort Worth. It is a fascinating museum that teaches a great deal about the Civil War on both sides and the life of the everyday soldier too. Anyway, when you finish up at the museum, you take a turn into a long room that takes you to a gift shop. It is called the "Judy Richey Collection" of Victorian Dresses. It even includes a head piece from the movie Gone with the Wind. The room is filled with antebellum and post war dresses showing how women in the south dressed in the era of the Civil War. It covers the years 1860 to 1900.
While looking at the dresses, one of my sons asked rudely, "How does a lady p**p in one of those things?" Well, after correcting him about asking it in a more gentile way, curiosity got the better of me. And, when we got home later that day, I googled it and a link to your video of how a lady does her business came up and answered his question.
So, if you are ever in Fort Worth, Texas, visit the Civil War museum and enjoy the dress collection.
P.S. If you do come across the pond, please contact them first. I bet they would want you to do a presentation of Victorian styles.
I love your videos and the lovely clothes! Historically accurate fashion is a delight.
I love what you do so much! Being able to see people in the clothes of history really helps to humanize the people of the past
Too gorgeous!! I love that dress!! The skirt on my dress is similar only fuller. I wish designers would bring this style back for bridal wear. It's too gorgeous not to. Beautiful wedding!
sadly its not that modern economical. but you can ALWAYS make your own :) there are patterns available including from this lady i believe. because they are made in pieces/layers they are now where near as complicated as they look.. (i was shocked to learn this!)
She always makes me laugh she has a very quiet naughy personality! The Victorian wear tends to install a bit of rebellion in her blood! Excellent!
Oh my gosh! That was a most wonderful treat! I have saved this video to my private playlist! And then to top it off, in the background, was 🎶 (I know you, I waltzed with you) Once Upon A Dream...🎶
I've been binge-watching priorattire. What a delight to find this little gem in the midst!
Anyone else who just loves the maid lol!
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing your wedding day. Your dress puts the modern wedding dress to shame! I've never cared for the strapless look with the "girls" half hanging out, yours has class!
strapless wedding dresses needs to go out of style already ugh
If I were to marry again it would be so neat to have a Victorian wedding gown it's beautiful
Love it especially seeing the actual wedding photos. It looked a fun day. Just beautiful
So beautiful, thank you for sharing your actual wedding photos. You looked so lovely!
Stunning gown and gorgeous wedding. Thank you for sharing pictures of your gorgeous wedding.
Oh my Goodness. I love your videos. Not only informative but beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. I love your wedding photos. BEAUTIFUL!!!
I can't believe you rode sidesaddle!!! That's amazing! I used to be quite the horse woman and usually rode bareback. I just loved how free it felt to lope through the fields with nothing between me and my horse, except my jeans or shorts. When I was riding every day I _could_ ride sidesaddle bareback, but it was *hard!* And I had to ride very slowly. I'm sure an actual sidesaddle would have made it easier, but nobody I knew had one. There is a man near me who makes custom saddles, but I don't think even he would make a sidesaddle, and even if he did it would cost more than $20,000.
You look so beautiful!!!!!! And that dress is magnificent, you are so talented.
Now that's a Royal wedding dress.
Aw! That last part made me smile...you look like a great couple
Found your channel during quarantine and I've become very enthralled with your work!
A breathtaking wedding dress and suit! You always have museum quality “costumes”! I would love to see the evening bodice!
You are stunning!! Everything about this whole ensemble is perfection. I love your wedding pictures as well.
My wedding gown was very 1960s. It was long, made with lace over a satin lining. It had bell sleeves. A-line with a train. I wore a merry widow underneath which i still have in my cedar chest . I also still have my mother's old corset with stays. I am so glad that women have for the most part left those things behind. Pretty and romantic to look at, but very uncomfortable to live with in daily life. I can't even imagine a hurried trip to the loo dressed like that.
She has a video on how women went to the bathroom in these babies, and it's actually pretty easy, as well as a video on how easy a decent corset was to wear as well!
@@pinkwings8036 I saw that video. It didn't look easy to me, and getting cleaned up afterwards, yuck! Corsets with stays are not only uncomfortable, but also unnatural. These videos are interesting, and the clothing lovely with the music to daydream over, but as I have said elsewhere, the reality of daily living trussed up this way was far from romantic. I'm happy that women now have a choice.
I have always chosen clean, practical pretty clothing over fashion.
Very sweet to let us glimpse your special day. You two look happy! Congrats belatedly. :)
My gosh, you look beautiful! Your husband looks very dashing, too! :D
Gorgeous through and through; the funny relatable text, the attire and the model/designer! Brava!
You wedding I say a fairytale. Looks, era, beautiful girl, and guy, handsome. Magnificent!
I always get excited when i get notis that youve uploaded a new video. Please never stop showing us the beautiful dresses you create! And thank you for sharing some weddingimpressions with us. You look stunning as always
One of my most favorite videos. Belated Congratulations on your wedding :-)
Since I love these dresses but cannot sew to save my life, I recreated one using bedsheets and bathrobe belts! It took a lot of folding and knot tying, but it turned out beautiful and I didn't have to sew a stich!
Big Brains
Oh! Your wedding pictures are divine! Thank you for sharing them with us all.
Love the way you two look at each other after the buttons as if to say thank God that's done.
I didn't realize until halfway through that this was your actual wedding dress - amazing!
Absolutely Beautiful! Also, thank you for sharing photos of your actual wedding as well. You And your husband make a beautiful couple. May you be blessed with many, many beautiful years together ⚘💗⚘
Beautiful bride and handsome husband
Wishing you both health and happiness for many years to come !
Those were the days , a long forgotten era of romance. Just beautiful 💝
@@lbc9762 Not romantic for most people. Poverty, disease and high infant mortality were the norm.x
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! Thank you for including photos of YOUR wedding!!! Beautiful!!!
So beautiful and unique! I could imagine wearing something like this to my own wedding. Not sure about my boyfriend, though :D He might protest against the man's boots and trousers!
Ki La Well, tell him it can't be much worse than a rental tux!
What a lovely wedding, and everyone in such beautiful garments, and even the authentic side saddle horse riding (I ♥♥♥ horses!)! Thank you for sharing!
