"So long" (1974) has many interesting things to analyze its rhythm is in the similar glam rock style of Waterloo, it was recorded months after ABBA's triumph at Eurovision And since the reissue of “Ring Ring” after “Waterloo” barely made it into the UK Top 40, ABBA's search for a second hit to reinforce “Waterloo” focused on “So long” precisely because of its rhythm and style in the vein of "Waterloo" But it didn't even make it onto the UK charts The following year ABBA would try "I do I do I do I do I do" another Top 40, until finally it was "S.O.S." that broke the ‘one hit’ curse to #6 in the UK and #15 in the US, and from then on ABBA was the hit-after-hit machine. "So long" I think is more aggressive than "Waterloo", and at the same time more fun Agnetha and Frida do one of their most memorable choreographies And the live performance on the 1977 Australia Tour is spectacular. "So long" is a very good song that unfortunately did not have commercial success But ABBA always included it in their first TV specials until 1976 included. See you in another video A cordial greeting from my country Argentina
This song is very indicative of the glam rock scene which was just starting to wane by 1974. I was still a short while before disco became a thing, though. This is one of these lesser known singles which, initially, didn't do that well in the charts. It did have a bit of a reprise once the group became more internationally recognised, though. If you want some of the lesser known songs, try, 'That's Me', 'Tiger', or, 'Hasta Mañana.'
I semi feel Benny took them out to the tin shed to record So Long , but I never skip it . They have a song called Dance ( While The Music Still Goes On ) which I reckon you will love. I hope you give it a listen and reaction some time. Best wishes from England ! You are lovely people .
You should try lay all your love on me by ABBA for a real dancy disco track. The one in the snow you're talking about chiquitita - one of the most moving songs around I reckon in terms of a pick me up with friends
ALL OF THEIR ROCK SONGS ARE TOTALLY UNDERRATED. WATCH OUT, KING KING SONG, SO LONG, TIGER, HOLE IN YOUR SOUL, KISSES OF FIRE, ON AND ON AND ON. AGNETHA, ANNI-FRID AND BJØRN SING THEIR A....OFF🤩🤩🤩🤩
Despite this being recorded in 1974 still sounds fresh and could almost fit any era.Lyricwise its a very "feminime" song and very critical for its time of release.its words are a noisy humiliating slap in the mouth to every womaniser who look up to women as an object who can just buy and use for prestigious and other" pleasing" reasons.Denying the respect and compassionism the female nature equally deserves. What a treat!Abba were FabBa and always deserverved far more apreciation for what they did at the time.
ABBA are a good example for alls of make dreams true and now the continue over the ages and the friendship across hard situations for make good experiences in the life.
In your own time look up the made for export official video as they are dancing all over the show! It's worth even for an own time thing I reckon :)) It's from the early 70s.
You should have seen the official video, it is very good, the girls dance very well, if it is for copyrights, you can stop the video a little more often and blur the image of the video a bit
This was a great song that was rarely played. I played a ton esp while driving on long trips. I still like another rarely played Abba song :Hasta Manana, although it is a much slower song. Thx Tyler and Marissa !!!
Aye a nice review. I liked the review a lot, though you and your wife got a bit distracted and went off on a tangent. But I liked it. And what a great song - a brilliantly observational piece. Yes it's good music but it's social comment too. This song comes from the 1970s. Looking forward to your Voyage reaction and I think you should do a reaction to Little Things. And then 'Happy New Year' which is the most amazing new year song that you'll ever hear.
The best from their earlier era, better than Waterloo! Their sound, production haven't even got developed to the full polished Abba- sound production yet!
No i think that Thats Me is there most underated song. It´s a great song!!!!! And mabye Tiger, Kisses Of Fire, As Good As New, Angel Eyes, When I Kiss The Teacher, Lay All Your Love On Me
If you like ABBA, you may like Kylie Minogue, was thinking of your Christmas’ playlist. Kylie has a song called Christmas Isn’t Christmas ‘Till You Get Here, which is a bouncy classic.
I think it sounds congested. Too much ovedub and noisy, just compare to Mamma Mia recorded the same year (or was this recorded in late 1974?). And Dancing Queen, actually recorded in 1975. But love ABBA

Meanwhile in Sweden, we never reflected on charts, singles and stuff. We only knew their LPs.
As others here have mentioned Tyler, you're really missing a trick not seeing Frida's dancing in the 'made for export' video of this

Happy to see you back with ABBA reactions. Cant wait tor your voyage reaction. Greetings from germany.
You young people as so right. It is strange it hasn't got more attention.
Thanks from Sweden and a old fan of ABBA. 🇸🇪❤️🇺🇲.
A suggestion for your next ABBA reaction Tyler - 'If it wasn't for the nights', Japan 1978 Original Broadcast.

Love your reactions on ABBA. Thank you SO much. Could you please react to ABBAs song He is your brothter? Love from Lena
Another rock type song that is worth listening to is Hole in your soul... There's a live version of that along with Does your mother know
There are some cool clips of them performing this! Love it!
You must watch the performance video!!!! Made For Export
Yes! Frida and Agnetha and especially Frida dancing up a storm
In your own time look up the made for export official video as they are dancing all over the show! It's worth even for an own time thing I reckon :)) It's from the early 70s.

Love yr abba content 😜💞💖great song choice !) Oooo la la
I think it is an underrated song, but Abba said they didn't think much of it themselves.
You should check this out from Abba the Movie The girls do a choreographed dance at the end of it to the piano part towards the end
One of my favorites.

One of my faves a good end to ABBA ABBA album. ❤
You should definitely react to their Made For Export performance with this song.
i am melting everytime Tyler goes "uuhhh" :D
The vídeo is very good with Frida and Angetha in mini dresses. They dance very well, mainly Frida, beautiful and sexy.
Wow 😍⭐️😍
Tenían q ver esa canción en vivo con los bailes d Frida y la coreografía al final

Very nice, 👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏👏🏾👏🏿👏🏼👏🏽👏🏻 thanks for share. 🙏🏻
Rhythmically, it is a ‘shuffle’, like Waterloo
Summer night city - the best - both the studio recording and live
You need to listen to " Rock me "
The best from their earlier era, better than Waterloo! Their sound, production haven't even got developed to the full polished Abba- sound production yet!

I would say 70's Europop, although it is related to 60's pop as well, and influenced the 80's so neither of you are really wrong in my opinion.
Мне очень нравится от молодежи такие комментарии

Kyle nothing like ABBA
Try One of Us With Agnetha Fältskog ( eng. Faltskog ) on the lead Off. Video
On and On and On?😊
Quite sad you did'nt choose the Studio album version where you can see them, this was only lyrics, you miss seeing Agneta & Frida dance.
10:15PM.. that's ... an odd time for an upload/release LOL
Yes please react to the little things video
I think it sounds congested. Too much ovedub and noisy, just compare to Mamma Mia recorded the same year (or was this recorded in late 1974?). And Dancing Queen, actually recorded in 1975.
But love ABBA
Do this
You need to stop being so cute with your ABBA reactions. Ok, don't stop.
No entiendo cómo no pusiste el vídeo 😑😑😑
Cute guy
the spanish abba song of this song are preferble
Try not to talk though it
Boring reaction. Always pausing at the nucleus and nectar of songs.
I love ABBA.......but I never liked "So Long". 😝🤢
@German Morawski 👍😆 I agree......and it's not so fan friendly either❗
