Frank Sinatra, one of the greatest singers ever, once said that "there is Ella and then there's all the rest of us." Ella was perfection and made it all seem so easy!
From the movie ‘Pete Kelly’s Blues' with Jack Webb, Peggy Lee, Lee Marvin, Janet Leigh, Jayne Mansfield, and Miss Ella. Great cast!! Great music!! Very underrated movie, in my opinion. Probably due to Webb's wooden acting style.
This song goes back a long way. In fact during my 23 years at the Industrial Commission, I used to perform this song at all the office parties and always got rave reviews. Someone from there may remember this! So enjoy!
Unfortunately, I was never lucky enough to see Ella Fitzgerald live; but I did see Gladys Knight in concert about two years ago. There was NO doubt that this was a woman on whom God had placed His hand. Everyone in the (very large) auditorium was grinning in sheer delight for two hours. When she began "Midnight Train to Georgia", the place went into happy insanity. Ella and Gladys are both proof positive, for those with eyes to see and ears to hear, that the human soul not only exists, but is, at its greatest, a blaze of incomparable glory.
Lyrics to Hard Hearted Hannah In old Savannah, I said Savannah, The weather there is nice and warm! The climates of a Southern brand, But here's what I don't understand, They got a gal there, a pretty gal there, Who's colder than an Arctic storm, Got a heart just like a stone, Even ice men leave her alone! They call her Hard Hearted Hannah, The vamp of Savannah, The meanest gal in town, Leather is tough, but Hannah's heart is tougher, She's a gal who loves to see men suffer! To tease 'em, and thrill 'em, to torture and kill 'em, Is her delight, they say, I saw her at the seashore with a great big pan, There was Hannah pouring water on a drownding man! She's Hard Hearted Hannah, the vamp of Savannah, GA! They call her Hard Hearted Hannah, The vamp of Savannah, The meanest gal in town, Talk of your cold, refrigeratin' mamas, Brother, she's a polar bear's pajamas! To tease 'em, and thrill 'em, to torture and kill 'em, Is her delight, they say, An evening spent with Hannah sittin' on your knees, Is like travelin' through Alaska in your B-V-D's. She's Hard Hearted Hannah, the vamp of Savannah, GA!
@undapar1 haha im doing the same thing with my niece and she always dance with "it dont mean a thing" and some others, so cute haha... and when i was a kid i used to do the same thing
I'm not really sure about Ella in this kind of material. Vocally it's absolutely great but I don't think she really knows how to sell a comic song. Needs someone like Carol Burnett
Carol is great. She did a hilarious version of this song on The Lucy Show. But Ella was the greatest ever. BTW, I think this was the first time I ever saw Jack Webb smile.
A voice sent from Heaven. Wow!

I'd give anything...anything, to have seen her just once.
The best. There were and are lots of greats. But Ella... you just don't do what she does better than she did it.
One of the greatest!
Another great rendition of this great song is by Banu Gibson

A shame the video is so poor.
Why Are You Capitalizing Every Word In Your Sentences? Lol, I have never understood why people do this?
we do, but there is nowhere to perform....type lilig.podomatic.cry me a river and see (not as good, but good enough :))
