  • In this video Bishop Edgar Amos Love addresses the student body of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta GA, Circa April 1962. In this sermon, Bishop Love - Founder of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc - challenges us to embrace the difficult. (Joshua 14 12-15)
This presentation was originally aired November 17, 2020 as part of the Virtual Founders' Day celebration of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Bishop Edgar A. Love earned four degrees including: a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1913 and a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1916 from Howard University in Washington, D.C.; a Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree in 1918 from Boston University School of Theology in Boston, Massachusetts; and a Honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from Morgan College in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a reverend in various cities in Maryland as well as a Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church (MEC). Love is one of the founders of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the first African-American fraternity founded on a black campus. He also served as a chaplain in the United States Army during World War I. Following his honorable discharge, Love taught at Morgan College for two years before becoming a Methodist minister. In 1933, he became the District Superintendent of the Washington Conference of the Methodist Church and then led the Methodist Department of Negro Work in 1940.
Love was elected Bishop of the Central Conference of the Methodist Church, a segregated congregation in Baltimore. He continued serving as Bishop for 12 years, retired, and then returned from retirement from November 1966 to June 1967 to serve as the Bishop of the Atlantic Coast Area, which including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi. During his life, Bishop Love also served as a trustee for several black colleges and universities, as a member of the Maryland Inter-Racial Commission, and as a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He passed away on May 1, 1974, in Baltimore.

I Bless God for our Founder. Each time I hear this speech, The Holy Spirit reveals more about Christ than I knew yesterday. Wow ! The Challenge of the Difficult. For every man this is the most important battle we will face. May we live on the truth of God's word not on the facts of life.

ITC my alma mater. I received my MDiv at Turner Seminary of the ITC graduate Class Of 2006. I should have hit those archives while I was there. They have actually reorganized the audio recording in a much more user friendly way since I went there.

HOW much moRe, "BEAUTIFUL"- Inspiring and TIMELESS, was this MESSAGE in 2020: FOUNDER Bishop Edgar A. Love, had a unique skill apparently of speaking to his CONTEMPORARIES and those yet to come and even the yet: UNBORN. Frederick Douglass has that type of GIFTED BLESSING. Somehow, getting Intellectually Spiritual into the HOUR-GLASS of real wisdom's INFINITY, was definitely apart of Bishop Love's legacy.
I am certain to replay this many times over and will start looking out to find more of his SERMONS, because anybody that leap those many DECADES into the FUTURE and still be on laser precision point" like this'- Cause I feel all BLESSES and reassured having just listened to him. I, LOV.E our Fraternity all the moRe, THANK yALL for a dose of genuine 'church from the HEART & MIND'
