- This is taken from the Star Ocean EX Anime. This is the battle between Claude and Dias during the Tournament of Arms. This hasnt been directly cut, and then made from the Anime, I cut out certain parts that took some of the action away, like flash backs and etc, and I also cut some other things also. This was originally made for my own viewing purposes, but I decided to put it on UA-cam.
Untealistic. In the game, Dias spams Chaos Sword.

Love this! Despite the faults of the anime, this was an excellent representation of this battle! If you've really tried, the true story is Claude and Dias fighting it out in the final battle of the tournament! And of course, the true sword master of the time Dias always wins.
But I'm sure we're all left with the eternal question 'what about Claude 30+ levels ahead and with ultimate equipment? An honorable effort, but in the end Dias is scaled to your level and Claude is meant to lose at the arena by the hands of Dias. Even if you kill him, you'll only get a short cutscene and the battle begins anew until Dias wins.
I remember leveling up to 60 before the fight and Dias still killed me in 3 hits lol

That's nothing I had Claude at lv 100 and Dias on earth mode STILL kills you in only 3 hits 1 to 2 hits to a lv 100 Claude on EARTH mode.
Claude is undeniably the strongest character in the first two Star Ocean games... his defense gets so high that by the time you level him up to 255, he can solo Isera Queen without taking a single hit point of damage (with Victory Armor and Blue Talismans equipped). Dias is very overpowered when you first use him, but later on he just can't match the brute power of Claude's amazing Mirror Blade attack.

Nope at lv 255 Even with a Defense stat of OVER 3000 on Earth mode I STILL had Iselia queen's physical hits DO 9999 to Claude so I STILL HAD to bloody armor him.

Dias's air slash is actually a pretty good killer move because it is way faster than Claudes. Gets even better as you raise the proficiency.
Matt Easton: Note how at 2:53 Claude stabs his sword into the ground. You just don't do this especially considering that you're using the prize creation of a legendary blacksmith.

This is a lot more glamourous than what happened when I played the game, it was more me running around in circles trying not to die. Guess it wouldn't make good anime.

No, I should have said "from the first two games overall". Star Ocean 1+2 have almost identical battle systems, it's just that Claude hits a heck of a lot faster and harder than Roddick ever could.

@Lorddias I know the tournament happens but the dialogue and that plan talked about in this arent in the game. Dias just kicks your ass, says good job when you wake up and leaves.
Claude put up way more of a fight in this anime than I did in my first play through lmao. When I fought Dias it only lasted like 2 seconds, he walked up to me and like 2 shotted me instantly before i could even use a killer move. Also, I don't remember some cool blacksmith making me a swag sword, I just had some POS Long Sword or something.
Its a unwinnable fight in the game. I'd watched this as a child before playing the game. So I spent like hours power-leveling Claude, only to start the fight no-selling Dias and then he just eventually one-shots you.
Too bad they never finnished the anime it would have been cool to see disc 2. SO2 is the best!

Its easy to think of yourself as a badass Dias when you are using an invincibility cheat.
for both though air slash sucks as an attack anyways, it never hits your goddamn target even later when you get it all the way up its still has those problems. he should used shooting star or ripper blast >.> much better anyways
Ah yeah, I didnt really like how it ended at the end of the games disc 1. The manga goes on to where the game ends though. I heard that the reason why they ended the anime so soon (Season 1 was going to be disc 1, and 2 disc 2) I guess because the ratings for it were pretty low and so were sales. Its all about money for the big companies you know.
Damn shame. This had a lot of potential. I'll have to check out the manga at some point.

In my experience Claude, Ashton, Dias and Rena are the most powerful combination. Don't get me wrong, everybody else can be quite devastating as well. Trust me, I have been playing since 2001.
Ashton IMHO sucks and Opera with 999 Healing Star uses and bloody armor Claude Opera Dias and Chisato/Bowman makes Rena in game useless.
In my save file with Rena as the primary hero that was my dream team.
I thought it was bad that you could be level 100 before the tournament but, still had to lose to Dias.

actually dias's air slash is already at its max in the game. claudes one changes colors as it gets stronger but its too slow. Dias's air slash>Claude's air slash :D
I must disagree respectfully with the other comments. Claude is far stronger than Dias in the game. His Ripper Blast/Mirror Slash combo never had me hit. I was only ever damaged from far away spell casters. Ripper Blast is insanely great for groups and Mirror Slice is massive damage on one opponent. The best moves Dias had (opinionated) were Hawk Scream Blast, and Gale Stab. Even then, those weren't massive improvements against Claude. I had both moves maxed before the earthquake in disc one!

in the game, i find that ashton is a much better figher than das flac. Also ashton killer moves are cooler and more powerful ,too

This had Cloud and Sapphiroth written all over it at the start. Lol.
Claude, Ashton and Dias all have there uses.
Dias can shoot an Airslash across the field faster than anything or anyone catching whatever with a 9999! then keep them there with Full Moon Slash from mid range. Claude has every field covered short range, mid and some long range. Ashton has exrteme close range, pathetic mid range, and a slow and powerful long range....TRI-ACE!
Ashton sucks and is NEVER in my party ever I prefer 4x bloody armor users and OPERA must be 1 of them.
ripper blast and tear gas,are good but air slash is more effective cause of its speed,u can spam 3 air slashes while you r still doin ripper blast.
Never saw the anime but played the game and i dont remember this ever happening, is the anime far different from the game?
Not gonna lie I was so happy watching Claude get his ass handed to him in the game after the way he bit Rena's head off for no reason.

I bench Claude the second I get the chance. Gameplay wise yeah, he's the best character in the game, story wise however he's a completely unlikable twat. Dias kicking his ass made him my favourite character in the game.
@ilovekonno Since you obviously haven't played the game past that point, and never recruited Dias to your team, you didn't find out that Dias is a far better fighter than Claude. He's the fastest and strongest fighter that is recruitable in the game. You shouldn't feel bad Claude got owned by Dias. It was inevitable.

maybe, but he is way cooler! and hes not that bad, he has some great Killer Moves. Him, Claude, Ashton and Rena are a good team! But Dias is the coolest character ever!

i trained my claude to the max in mountain hunting some chickens trying to woohoo rena but........ immortal arena virgin diaz is unbeatable more like his hp won't even go down 50% or 25%
@dapithapon If you mean in the game, then i can tell u the rumor is not true. Dias has Illusion spam which is faster then mirror slice at max level. The downside is illusion looks queer comparing to mirror slice.

In any case, the Eternal Sphere is average. Claude still gets stomped by enemies Dias has no problem with, like the enemies deep in Cave of Trial who shred you up if you get close, or those big phoenixes who are too agile to drop with normal attacks without peeping (at which point Dias' can kill them the same as as the Sphere with an armband too).
Dias is faster, more powerful, and takes less damage.
I liked Dias more than Claude dias had the better move set in my opinion
