I fell for 2 of the 5🙄 I was visiting Xaniá, Crete in October. The weather was very mixed. I walked the coast path on the Thursday it was cool, windy, the waves were breaking up on the seafront promenade, nobody was out, I made my way to the spectacular new archaeology museum. A perfect day. By Saturday, the summer weather had returned, the city was packed with local people and tourists, it was so Hot, I needed to buy a sun hat and the shop was very busy. I got heatstroke walking in the shady Old City area, taking photographs and had to stay in bed on Sunday😕 Geographical mistake. I had chosen an hotel about 2 km to the East of the city centre. After 3 hours on the bus from Iraklion, I was eagre to get off the bus and enjoy the walk to my hotel. My rucksack was quite heavy, I had a jacket for the cooler evenings, and a bottle of water. What I could not predict was that the bus approached the city centre, not from the East, as expected, but in the one way system from the West. I could not see the sea or the mountains because of the buildings to orient myself so I followed the direction the bus had arrived and walked for 30 minutes in the traffic fumes the wrong way until I asked at a café and discovered my mistake. Then my walk to my hotel was a further hour. Interesting but hot and dusty, my bag got heavier and heavier and the final kilometer was all uphill. At the end I was so delighted to see the hotel, the beautiful gardens, peace and quiet, pomegranates ripe on the trees so many flowers and the family were so friendly and helpful.. I had chosen very well. It was a wonderful holiday. Crete is so beautiful. I long to see the electrification of cars there the air is so bad in the cities. Even so I am totally in love with it.
My biggest mistake when visiting Greece for the first time this year was only staying 10 days I should have stayed 10 days more! Though I did visit Mt Olympus and Delphi, Nafplio and Aegina upon returning home I realized I missed so much that I will have to return !
Have you ever made a mistake when travelling abroad?
not taking all my prescriptions or over the counter drug store products.......I had some miserable weeks in Greece
My favorite places are Napfloi & Delpi...which are well outside of Athens
Thanks for sharing :)

Spend enough time in Greece and everywhere else in the world will start to feel kind of boring 🙂
