Considering moving here form Portland Oregon. I really do love it here but he job opportunities are lacking so bad. One thing I haven't found in another city is the walkability here in Portland from one cool bar, restaurant, shop to another in a beautiful setting. I tried Denver and was extremely let down on its downtown life. Felt dead, with cool places spread out too far. Curious peoples opinions on Charlotte from this perspective?

Jobs in NC suck period, the cost of living is a lil higher depending on the area but the starting income doesn't reflect this. I'm about a hour from Charlotte and visit often but always hear about how expensive it is. Why are you considering leaving Portland just curious?

@@Ashley-og9ti Job market is the main factor. Ive looked at housing and renting in Charlotte and its cheaper or almost the same, so that isn't a worry of mine. Any place worth living is expensive, Ive come to terms with that. Portland is among the worst in traffic and homeless so that also is something I'm desensitized to.

I live 20 mins outside Charlotte, you should move to South/South Central Charlotte if you are looking for a nice area to live, housing is a little above average but its a beautiful city with a lot to do and explore. Its walkable, just don't be lazy. You can walk pretty much everywhere in uptown, and occasionally, especially during sporting events, people go around and can give you golf cart rides to wherever you need. If you have a family and/or are comfortable financially, I would not recommend places like Gastonia, or Albemarle. You should move somewhere like Mt Holly, Matthews, or Concord.@@roundfaceal9164

As a Statistical Analyst and Relocation Specialist, Charlotte has one of the strongest economies in the nation. If you want a job badly enough, you can get one (trust me, I see it every day), especially in the financial, tech, healthcare, and transportation industries. The Buying Power (income vs. overall cost of living) in Metro Charlotte is 12.53% better than the national average. Portland, on the other hand, is a dumpster fire. I have worked with several clients from the Portland area over the last 6 months who are dying to get out. I have be there over the last few years as well. Filth, human waste on the side walks, open drug use, rampant homelessness, broad daylight crime, Antifa ruling the streets, deep social unrest, businesses and residents fleeing in record numbers, very expensive, one of the worst Buying Power scores in the nation, etc. "Cool" is an extremely subjective word. I don't consider everything I just mentioned about Portland that you conveniently left out as cool. If Portland, Seattle, LA, SF, NYC, and other cities that are being fled in droves is an attractive setting to live, Chicago, Minneapolis, Boston, Baltimore, and DC might be for you. There are good reasons metro areas such as Charlotte, Greenville, Nashville, Tampa, and Dallas/Ft. Worth are clean, have social harmony, great Buying Power, high qualities of life: They're not Portland and have no desire to be. You have to be honest with yourself as to what things are destroying these areas and why the areas that are flourishing are doing so.

The bussed all the homeless people to the beach and left them there without their knowledge. We were looking for my neighbor's uncle for the longest. They told them all that they were going to a nearby shelter because the one near uptown couldn't take them. The city had money to build a safe space for them but somehow they went above the local govts heads and dumped them. It was so sad. I would have never known had it not been for the search for my neighbor's uncle who was homeless at the time. They didn't know he had his head on straight but was down on his luck.

I live in Charlotte and I'll give you a brief run down on what it's like to live here if you have never been still.
Charlotte compared to NY is very small, it's like a small piece of NY that is more calm and cleaner.
Food in general is pretty good but no where near as good as up north food, especially when it comes to international type foods.
Traffic can get pretty bad pretty quickly because people suck at driving in Charlotte.
But overall it is a peaceful place to live in if you choose the good areas. Up north Charlotte and above Charlotte are not great places to live. Below Charlotte, especially around Ballantyne and Providence is the best places to live as far as safety and peaceful living.
Charlotte is a good place to live for settling down, if you are very active type of person, Charlotte can get old pretty quickly.

It's headed there. Greedy people moving in. Changing the whole vibe of things. Charlotte used to have a great East Coast vibe similar to San Diego or the cool side if L.A. west coast, carefree feel. Now we have tight asses who don't speak or understand what a sense of community is. Everyone used to get along and even sit at the same tables and mingle on any occasion but now, uptight pricks and racists have moved in spreading nasty looks, gestures and promoting division behind the scenes. A few restaurants have HUGE signs that state that no racists, bigots or misogynists are welcome. A serious change in vibe. Socially and economically...greedy investors and those playing real life monopoly are the reason that things have gone up so much. We can afford to live here but so many good people have been priced out and some just left because the city doesn't feel the same. A lot of people stand against these people who make the city bleak because Charlotte was just that great of a vibe. Free things to do all the time and people of all backgrounds, shapes, colors and creeds were laughing, talking, and just enjoying Charlotte.
