They were great. Saw them live at Merritt College Oakland back in '67. Had all their records. After all this time I still can't play my 5 string like Doug.
Rodney and Doug Dillard together towards the end of Doug's life. Years and a fall while filming in the "Popeye" movie in Malta took it's toll on his lightning drive and incredible timing. Doug was as sweet and unassuming and fun back stage as any person would want. Love this song.
My mother's family always referred to the rundown house on family property and the "old home place". They had lived in it during the depression. My cousins turned it into a hunting shack.
They have been going at it for nearly 60s years, and they can play in a few styles, not everyone play straight "Scruggs' 3 finger roll picking. I play older styles with some 3 finger roll, but mostly 2, clawhammer and some frailing as I play old time.
Seems that Glen Campbell once jammed with these guys. As we all know Glen was a great flat top picker before he became so famous. I recall the Dillasrds from ealy 60's but then no more
Thanks for the video. I'd like to share all of my audio and video with you. Since I can't insert a web page link here, please Google for: fred robbins bluegrass picking
I don't care what y'all say, I'm playing this song at my Dad's funeral.

Fabulous. Rest in Peace Mitch and Doug.

i was introduced to this from hearing Phish cover it, as well as various other bluegrass tunes. Good stuff!

Look for a couple guitar instrumental records Glen Campbell recorded early 60's.."Folkswingers" are the Dillards backing him.

Good pickin' and singin' boys.
