- In this video we discuss 10 of the Greatest Players to play the position of outside centre since the onset of professionalism, taking into consideration longevity, peak ability, all round performance and trophies won
0:00 Introduction
1:17 FRANK BUNCE
1:54 ADAM ASHLEY COOPER
2:48 STIRLING MORTLOCK
3:55 YANNICK JAUZION
4:45 JAQUE FOURIE
5:37 JOHNATHAN DAVIES
6:36 TANA UMAGA
7:20 CONRAD SMITH
8:10 BRIAN O'DRISCOLL - Спорт
Danie Gerber should top the list. A once in a lifetime gifted centre
Read the description of the video.
Gerber is the best I have seen!
Gerber
Bunce
Sella
O'Driscoll
Stanley
I'm glad you mentioned Jauzion.
He was a discreet but exemplary player.
Mccalister was also an excellent center during the O'Driscoll and Jauzion era, as I recall.
Danie Gerber and Brian O'Driscoll best centres ever.
Conrad Smith at 3
Met Danie Gerber in a lift in 1986 in Durban. Boks were playing NZ Cavaliers. He was brilliant.
Gerber and Sella for me but nice list.
Danie Gerber
What happened to Danie Gerber?
Solid list.
However, Jauzion was more of an inside center.
And the fact that you didn't include Sella (probably top 3 all time) makes it a little hard to take it seriously.
I agree, but this list is regarding the professional era
I believe that Philippe Sella should be in this list
I will include him in the list for the Inside Centre position
@@RelentlessRugby Why though? He was an outside center and the only other one in the conversation with Smith and BOD for best ever.
True
If you’re counting Bunce’s whole career, he has to be top 3, no question.
Danie Gerber obviously
No danie Gerber, phillipe sella, nonu, or horan....???
Most have made it on this list

@@RelentlessRugby your claim is that it's the top 10 outside center's of all time, and you left the top 2 of all time out of that list, in Gerber and sella.
Much like your 1st 5 video where you forgot the likes of naas botha and Barry John from the list completely for more average players like o gara, and farrell, in that list you didnt even have larkham in the top 5.!!
Next you will tell me Lomu wasn't good enough to make the top winger of all time, and name chris Ashton or some other equally average northern player
@@benneal9309
I had never heard of Gerber or Naas Botha before making these videos
I was keeping the focus mainly on players of the professional era
The wingers list may surprise you
ua-cam.com/video/Hj7FnCUVlmA/v-deo.html
Nonu was mostly inside center
@@RelentlessRugby If the lists are from the professional era then the headings should mention that - rather than "in Rugby History".
Danie Gerber was probably the best Centre ever. He didnt play much international because of South africa isolution. But the little bit he did he showed what he could do. - ua-cam.com/video/tf8d5omZFoU/v-deo.html
Thanks for the link - great footage of a great player.
@@championthewonderhorse9733 Phillipe Sella rate him also the best centre he ever played against.
Had to be Drico at #1 💪
Not to take anything away from o'driscoll, I'd rather have conrad at 13 if i was picking a team. Apart from his offensive skill set, smith is a master at organizing the defensive line.
@@911dionysus to be fair O Driscoll was extremely good defensively too particularly in his latter days
Please ..only in the northern hemisphere ...only scored 1 against the boks and 3 against all blacks in his whole career. No southern hemisphere rates him at all ..danie gerber was the best ever ..
Sella Gerber and Gibson are in my top 5 together with O Driscoll and Smith on your list
I can think of at least two of not three who shouldn't be on this list at all. Not when you leave out Sells and still currently playing Huw Jones. Totally underrated!
Fourie was a beast
Incredible athlete incredible skills. Unusual for a rugby player he worked hard on keeping himself light.
How is jaques fourie above frank bunce. No phillipe sella either
I never heard much mention of Bunce among the all time greats of Rugby so when researching I couldn't find enough evidence to place him top 5.
Check this video for Philippe Sella, I made an error not listing him as a 13 ua-cam.com/video/SKYEvP2zyqA/v-deo.html
Tim Horan and Philippe Sella both played in the professional era, and were better than anyone here except BOD. Jeremy Guscott also played during the professional era.
Tim Horan was incredible, but was an inside centre.
Gerber beats them all ..no one comes close ..
Brian O’Driscoll definitely 5th place or less. Would have Umaga, Conrad Smith, Bunce, Manu Tuilagi or even Ma’a Nonu before O’Driscoll. O’Driscoll’s level of capability looks higher than it is because of the tier 2 teams he has played for, however the previous super stars I’ve mentioned shine brighter than him even amongst their Tier 1 teammates of similar calibre.
Davies Highlight reel is outrageous
For best Inside Centre all time it's gotta be Tim Horan
Yes l agree he was head n shoulders above alot of these nominations
Horan and Gerber in midfield for me.
Horan also played a lot of 13
Philippe Sella??
You definitely missed Danie Gerber. He was definitely the all time best
Agreed, he was a devastating player.
Oh Gerber the greatest ever!!! In any era. End of discussion
Agreed and Bruce Robertson
It says professional era
@@imrugbymad It does now, but it didn't when the video was originally posted. Then it said "Of All Time".
Sonny Bill Williams ….best 12 ever. Gerber best 13 ever. But great list. Jacques Fourie was an incredible athlete
Ringrose isn't too far away from this, may be considered Top 10 before he retires
😂😂
Lukhanyo Am!
Wasn't ma nonu a 13 as ad hav him as number, add also hav tana umaga as no2
Tana Umaga💪
12 *NONU* 🇳🇿 13 *GERBER* 🇿🇦
Phillipe Sella, then all the others.
Buddy! Danie Gerber! Maybe you are just young and your memory limited.
Danie Gerber was the king of centers.
He would have been a nightmare for all the players on your list.
I'd say the list of really great no. 13's is quite lengthy so in the end, it's a matter of opinion. Having said that, my choice is Danie Gerber 😂
Got it right again
Jason little,Joe Stanley have to get a mention, danie gerber top of list hampered by lack of internationals
Jason Little had a much bigger impact on Australian rugby than Adam Ashley Cooper. Cooper may be one of Australia's best utility backs - but he was never an automatic selection in the starting line up for any position..
@@chriskelly6010 Horan and Little hard to beat as a midfield combo, and that's coming from a kiwi.
Matt Giteau at 12 & Brian Odriscoll at 13
Ma nonu at 12 & Manu Tuilagi at 13
Smith best center easily
nonu and sbw
BOD definitely best.
You need get Mike Gibson in here
No Tim Horan🤷♂️ are you on glue
Where's Nonu
incide centre this is 13 list
@@user-oc1fh6eb8g he played both positions during his career...showed the class and versatility of him and depth of All Black's rugby ...he played on wing for kiwis too..O'Driscoll GOAT in 13 Jersey .and yes Nonu at 12 ..
@@rickster5120 i remember him on the 13 o`driscoll beat him to go score great try he then played more 12 was getting bit slow on the wing like umaga but when he started playing 12 everything fell into place for him and all blacks was unstoppable
@@user-oc1fh6eb8g the conveyor belt of talent in New Zealand was phenomenal at that time ..thought Shelford was unreal then Zinzan Brooke comes along then Kieran Read..thought josh Kronfeld unbelievable then along comes McCaw..they seemed to have a team waiting to take over after each world cup .
Philippe sella the greatest
If it is an All Black player....discussion over
No Phillippe Sella? The dude was better than at least half of these players...
The late Bruce Robertson is generally regarded as our greatest centre since the mid 1950s
In fact he was named as ABs best centre ever.
I think of him as having Conrad Smith's brain in Rico Ioane's body.
I understand that this list is for the professional era but Joe Stanley was better than most of these.
Tim Hogan Aussie
O Driscall is the best player I've ever seen
You have never seen danie gerber ...do yourself a favor..Google him ..
WI agree wih nany of ghe other comments , gus like O'Driscoll, Umaga, Bunch, Sella, Mortlock, Conrad Smith was great too. We can look back in history and dig up names like Mannetjies Roux from the 60s. So , how far back do we want to go? At least all those guys had the opportunity to show their talents to the world. It would have been amazing to pitch Danie Gerber against the best of his time. He was absolutely brilliant, but could not display this enough due to International Isolation, as a South African Springbok. He may be the best of my generation, ( Late 60s to today)P.S Before the 90's in most cases, there were not Inside and Outside centre's. There were left and right.
Eh.....Mike Gibson?
It clearly says 'professional era'!!!
Bud you don't know much about rugby could name 20 players better than what you picked.
Herbert? Better than many of these players
You clearly have a bias against South African rugby players.
O Driscoll was ok l never saw great game from him ..
Were you living on another planet at that time?
@fawltyoldboybasil.2178 l may only have seen 10 or so games with him playing , which in reality isn't much compared to most of the others l watched but in each of those he was OK didn't stand out . Maybe you could mention a game of his and ld watch it .
Sounds like you were a kid when O Driscall was in his last year or so
Go watch videos
Best ever
Mate if your just looking for a 13 to score trys you'll not see the real great players. BOD was a real hard working team player he defence was out of this world. And possibly if you seen him play on BT SPORTS the terrible Commentary probably didn't highlight all his skills to you.
I Driscoll was really good but not top 10
No Jean De Villiers?
He was a 12
Davies isn’t better than mortlock or Fourie lmao
From most if the videos from this channel that I've watched, I've concluded that the author mostly watches northern hemisphere rugby. A lot of average players can look wonderful against a lot of Six nations teams, and when they faced the southern hemisphere they didn't look that good. For example, Davies is no doubt a good player, but even in his prime he wouldn't get picked for New Zealand or South Africa, probably even Australia.
