  • Build a durable and compact 2 meter groundplane antenna from few parts. After uploading the video, I chatted with some other hams, and they reported that my audio was crystal clear.

Disclaimer: I am now aware that you shouldn't test SWR on a known repeater frequency. Please don't repeat my mistakes.

These were the first homebrew antennas I made in 1995 to accommodate my HTX 202 HT

When you keyed the transmitter I didn't hear a call sign. An antenna analyzer would eliminate transmitting unidentified to check your antenna/transmitter SWR. You know, F.C.C. Part 95...
    Kudos to Eric's observation.

Baofeng i have too! I'm from Germany and my english are very bad, hehe..
This Antenne i have as Version with copper! And i can open the free Gateway in 19 Kilometes, out of my Home, also from inside!
Or the AFU Relais DB0QH in ca. 30 Kilometers distance. So much Antennas we are have test here bevore, anytime become the Groundplane and this works better as other all! 4 radials with 49 cm length and a radiator with ca. 50 cm, so easy! And on top a Body with 3D printer. the radial simply screwed to the pl socket, ready is it! 😅

I agree the nails are atrocious and down right dirty looking. Other then that the video was well done and good clear instructions for new people

I made one of this antennas, i was my first build, Today i install it on my roof, and try to use it at night, I plug the cable on my UV5R and started to receive small electric discharges from the antenna, did I made something wrong?? I unplug the radio at the moment and its working but now I kind of scare ...................

Nope, but it's kind of a rainy day I read about it on other blog and they say it's static from the air, they told me to ground my antenas. but thank you anyway!!! great work by the way!!!!

@@meercreate I recently built mine same steel welding wire. I've noticed the rods are rusting is that a issue, if I built another one would painting it affect the SWR

Yeah I know. Ultrasonic soldering can solder quite a few stubborn metals, but for hobbyists it might not be worth the cost. Thus I recommend brazing with an aluminum zinc alloy, as alumaweld and map gas or propane torches are a lot cheaper to get.

Don't ferrous elements degrade quality or gain?

    • @SKYGUY1

If you put an antenna on the roof of a vehicle (unless it's a Corvette) the entire ground plane is ferrous.
