Thank you for the video, it is very helpful. Last night two trees blew down in my back yard and crossed exactly on the spot where I plan to set up my antenna. I'm glad that I waited a bit to put it up.
Hayden that was brilliant, thank you... That is precisely the antenna that I run in the shack, I knew it was a Diamond but never knew the model number as my elmer left it to me. You are absolutely right about this antenna, mine is up about 20 -23 feet (do the conversion Lol...) and I chase loads of SOTA on 2m simplex. Thank you for the video 73
Highly recommend this antenna as i have had one for a year and it works great on 2m and 70cm. I don't use 6M in my area as no one is ever on it. The antenna is good quality, fair price, and assembly/install is straight forward.
Thankyou for your content. Yes, the best antenna you have is the one that you have up in the air! With my call sign reinstated a couple of days ago, I charged up the now very old Baofeng and made a couple of contacts through the local repeater. The best antenna that I had was in my hand! So was the radio! 1 watt! Watch out!
@@HamRadioDX Thank you. Despite my modest kit, it was a thoroughly enjoyable QSO. I've definitely got the taste back. I forgot what I was missing. Hope all is going well down there.
Greeting Hayden, where did you buy this antenna in VK. I noted that this antenna is cut for USA frequencies, not VK . Look forward to your comment. Geoff vk3sq
Brilliant, I'll be looking for something like that soon. However, I'm in a valley so may need a different model. I like how that does 6m as well. Cheers for the practical info Hayden.👍
Longest yet for me is UK to Cyprus, 2000miles. Might need to spend some more time on 6m if 9000miles is possible. Maybe retune the 6m element as well. Bearing in mind that was 10watts on my ic-705.
I run a triband vertical on my Jeep, though I am no longer sure what brand it is. Using a plate of aluminum for a base. It makes amazing 2M contacts. The base is at about 1 Meter height.
Thanks. Very interesting about the null in the direction of the coiled radial when other antennas it is said that gain is achieved in the direction of the radial. Maybe the coil and relation to the shorter radials?
What's your thought in performance between this v2000 in 6m vs your 6m coax antenna (Flower Pot Antenna). Im thinking built my own Flower Pot Antenna for 6m and buy my dual band 2m/70cm maybe comet gp-6 or similar antenna but I want more info. about this antena(v2000), because maybe will solve me problem with just 1 antenna. Thank you!
To be honest, I don't really see a massive difference between this antenna and the 6m coax one... perhaps slightly better in the direction of the 6m coax one. I can mount that higher too! The more antennas the better :)
I’m wanting to put up a Mosley tri band beam. I wonder if I should remove the 2m 440 yagis considering no one is active here anymore on those bands. I would like to put up a 6m beam but don’t need the wind load. This antenna may be the ticket to working local guys and 6m dx. Seems like the cost of this and a diplexer would be more than a small yagi.
I'd bet the Band conditions had more to do with what you heard on Six meters, during an opening, than your antenna ! An old saying is with the right band conditions, you can work the World on a wet noodle ! 👍😉
Hi Hayden i have a question about "the null" on 6m. So the slight null is in the direction of it's corresponding radial I assume .....? Correct ? It's not so clear for me. Another nice video, keep up the good work 73 ON1JV
Hello do you run a duplexer on this antenna or do you unhook the p239 from the vhf/uhf and then but in the hf to use 6m. Of course I’m talking on the back of the radio.
Awesome Video! I'm still in the process of setting my station up. I have a Yagi 8-element 2m/70cm VHF/UHF and I have no clue if it's going to work for my little icom. but we'll see! I'm super stoked! KN6VIW
@@SV1RXI On my version the antenna can be tuned at the bottom end SSB portion of the band. For FM you can build 3 x 1/4 wave radials and stick them on to tune for the top end. No effect on 2m/70cm

Yes great antenna and works very well. 20 feet is ahhh… about the same height as my antenna :)

I have a V2000A as by base antenna. It does great on 2m and 440. Just need to retune the 6m radial. SWR is extremely high at the bottom of the band.
Yeah if you lengthen that radial should get the SWR tuned right up on the bottom end 👌
I have Diamond x510n antenna and the antenna is really good
I'm looking to do something similar at my place, how far above your hand rail is the antenna and how do you find the aluminium pole in high wind?

Nice job with the video, I'm looking at a Comet 2m / 70cm for the back yard.
Get a tribander, then you can get on 6m!

I have the quad band CR8900 in the shed I need to test out next
Another ham said to get the SWR down and make sure the antenna is 2 feet above any metal contact . USE plastic tube.
Nice job

I did neglect to mention the null is only on 6m not 2/70

This antenna will work well when the 6m sporadic E season starts up, which in the Northern Hemisphere is like from now till late Summer
So these aluminum poles come in sections? Where might I find one that long in the US? Thanks!
Try it against the x510n on 2m 70cms i bet it wont beat it. 👍

So does this antenna need tuning or can I plug it straight into my Rig and go?
Cool! I have an X300-A and I love it!
Yeah I used to have an X-200. I also have a couple of X-50 antennas in storage somewhere too.
Try x7000 is more fun
@@tahonabircse1740 I imagine so
Seems like Everytime I used to hear about these, they had blown the capacitors, essentially making the antenna useless ?
Just don't pump huge amounts of power continuously into them and they'll be right.
Is that a, " Radial " on (6) Six meters, or is it a driven element ?
It's a shortened radial
Looks like you have the DX Commander too ?
Yes I do, the classic

I would be curious to know the answer to this question too
Dear sir i want to make 500watt vhf antenna ple send me detail
Hi a question do you need to adjust the 6m radial to use 6m metres or are they set good to go?
There is a adjustment screw on the radial to push it in or out to tune for your preferred frequency.
But I think there is a guide in the manual that gives you a rough length to set it to
Thanks for the information.. it’s much appreciated 73 M7DMB

Sounds great! It should work well. Come back to let us know how it goes
do you use a duplexer to get the signal split?
I do use a diplexer, I actually use a triplexer to break out the 6m to the 7300 and then 2/70 can go to the IC-9700
@@HamRadioDX Awesome! Do you know which diplexer it is to do that? That is my setup!

Wow how much this very nice
Do you need a tuner with this?
No tuner needed. On 6m you can tune it to your desired frequency
