I absolutely adored the Arles primes. The 50mm and 100mm copies you just received were previously in my custody, and I sent a little hello note inside the box when DZO asked me to forward the lenses on to you. They are SO good. In my opinion, if you can handle the weight, they are exquisite.
Hey nick!! I just saw your note and watched some of your Arles videos, you put these lenses to work! Haha. Thank you so much for sending the 50 and 100 over. I don’t have much test footage with the 50 and 100 yet, but I’m loving the set of these so far. I had the 35 for a little longer. Look forward to testing these out more! Will check out your other Arles videos soon 🙌
@@keith-knittel thank you for the kind words, and for watching my videos! I loved shooting wide open on the Arles lenses, and I almost never touched the iris except to make sure it was staying wide open. But I know not everyone likes that look as much as I do, so I'll be curious to see what you think of them.
They both look good. Arles looks warmer than Vespid. Almost like a yellow tint added. While I like the 1.4 fully open look I have to admit that good dop's don't use it that often. I guess you want both sets :)
Thanks Keith! Been looking for this exact video. There's just something about the way the Arles render the bokeh that I have loved in every example on YT. Very painterly. Would also love to see your planned Arles vs kit lens idea....cheers.
Glad to help! This was something I was wondering about with the Vespids too. Glad I could help - was joking about an Arles vs kit lens video, but if there is some interest in a wild video like that, I'd include a section of that in my review! Haha
Haha! I've been shooting on Sigma and Tamron 2.8 AF stills lenses and right on the cusp of starting to invest in PL cine lenses....I'd love to see a side by side, esp for bokeh, fall off and skin tones. Thanks again for the video.
Besides the extra stop and tone difference it really depends on the clinical look you want or need. Arles are clinical and Vespers slight more vintagy soft. So both are for different jobs. Both should be the answer, but the wallet and needs should speak by for themselves.
@@keith-knittel I would have liked to keep the Vespids as well, but I didn't for several reasons. I think the Arles, among the affordable film lenses, at the moment, are by far the most balanced. I think they have a beautiful double soul and you can adapt them to a variety of situations.
The image of the arless is so pretty but it’s a little warmer for my taste, I am definitely fan of the Vespid ones! Both of them are incredible! I would said get the arless as well for those sunset shoots! I don’t think that was helpful! 😅😅
@@keith-knittel how about Lumix S Primes vs these cinema lenses? Nobody is doing this, the lenses are highly underrated and Panasonic labeled them as video lenses. It's as if gear reviewers only care to talk about the gear that the company gives them for sponsorship.
@@LucasCreativeTech I was joking about the arles vs kit lens video. I don't have much experience with Panasonic's current line of cameras but their new cameras have been pretty tempting. Would love to dive deeper into their cameras and glass but honestly I'm pretty busy with work and freelance/UA-cam right now to introduce another camera system into my workflow. Work tends to slow down around October for me, so I'll try to see if I can rent some panasonic gear around then
I was very close to grabbing the Arles, but the incredibly shallow Dof is almost too shallow. My concern is I'd be too distracted with making sure my focus is sharp at T1.4. I think the main question is do you need that extra shallow dof for your cinematography?
I enjoy comparing these lenses at t2 to 5.6, to me the Arles seems to be a little softer in the out of focus areas at the same stops as the vespids. Maybe a little less contrast. I mostly shoot people at t2 to 5.6. Products, I try to stop way down to around t8 to 11. For creative or low light, I can see t1.4 being helpful for some shots- but I wouldn’t keep these wide open all the time. It’s nice to have though!
Artlist! I was surprised they had these songs. Just added a link to them in the description. Full disclosure, Artlist has sponsored content on this channel in the past. Not this video, but has in the past
Man, I love the vespids, but I think if I got a set of Arles lenses, the vespids would just sit in the case. Maybe I should sell them? Keep the 12 and 90 for now?

I really love Vespid primes and I used them a lot, but Arles are on another level. I bought the entire 5 lens set and I'm a very happy man.
I know, I like my vespids, but love the Arles. Congrats on your set! Did you keep the vespids or sell them?

@@filippochiesa201have you paired the Arles with the Catta zooms? I'm wondering if there's any type of color shift..
@@jessfilmdiaries I've never paired them.
Thanks for that. Very informative.. I didn't always prefer the Arles, and interesting to see that T1.4 vs T2.1 is a relatively small difference.

i like DZOFilm Arles skin ton
Same here, the vespid is a little more contrasty

Been loving these lenses!

Arles all day. Fantastic Video Ketih
Thanks Cody! I know, feel like at T2 or even 2.8, I was preferring the Arles in most shots
I still think the vespids are nicer, because they have a vintage feel, which the Arles don’t have…
Arles texture
arles >> vespid sorry
